Good morning, Ellen! Love the octagon motif!!! I would LOVE to see the afghan you and your Mom made for your Grandmother!! What a wonderful memory for you! My Aunt Josie was almost 103 years old when she died some years ago. I went to see her a few days before, and she reminisced teaching me to crochet when I was little. She asked if I remembered the booklet she gave me. I told her I not only remembered it, I still have it! She remembered something that happened some 52 years before! Great memories are the BEST! 💕❤️😻
@@EllenGormleyCrochet Thank you! A pretty name for a beautiful soul! In her later years she was legally blind, but she was cranking out ponchos like crazy! I asked how she could manage when she couldn't see what she was doing, and she said you don't need to see to crochet! 😍
Hi Ms. Ellen! Love the granny, it’s so simple and easy for beginners and advanced! Thank you for your videos! Loving the sparkly nails! Take care and stay well! Wendy in Sumter, SC!
I saw I missed this one after seeing the yarn stash video. I bought the Go Crochet book for my Kindle immediately after watching this, grabbed my Abracadabra yarn (having watched your top ten favorite yarns and picked my own favs out yesterday) and a purple dk that reminded me of your Freesia Brava in your most recent video, and i made my first granny octagon this very day - who-hoo. Thanks for inspiring me and finally showing me the right project for my fav yarn. You're the BEST! Huge hugs!
I learned as a child from my Great Aunt too. Yes, please show us your first blanket. Mine is long gone. I guess I didn't understand fiber content back then, because I accidentally felted mine by washing it. I recently learned how to adjust video playback speed. On my android phone I click the 3 dots in upper right corner. Then click playback speed. Then click the speed slower or faster than normal. Most everyone else probably already knows this, but maybe it'll help someone who's new to TH-cam.
I’m currently working on a giant granny, just round and round I go! Could you do the same with the octagon shape or any shape? Do you think it would be to floppy or wavy?
Hi! It totally depends on your gauge. I love that plan! You could do an Octagon around and around. As you saw with me, I had to play with the hook size once I chose yarn to get the right drape.

Thank you for this speed tip! 😉😉😉
I like this octagon shape. Is it possible to continue on and make a baby afghan with this shape? Thank you for sharing.
Of course! You can do it!

I’m gonna use this to try and make a parasol lol
Wow! That would be amazing!
