    hey. i know this is a year old but i just wanted to say great job!
    i have to get dirt out of my basement and i was not looking forward to using a wheelbarrow to take it up the stairs or 30 trips with buckets. thanks for detailing your work.

    love this innovation! I didn't hear you mention an approximate cost - though I'm sure it is less expensive than a full-scale conveyor.
    This has inspired me to build my own! i was convinced I would need to build it out of metal and I'm still learning the basics on welding but I can make one of these out of wood no problem! LOVE the threaded bar idea for tension adjusting!

      You can find old equipment that has an electric motor that is much cheaper than buying a new motor. I have an old Craftsman cast iron table saw and the motor is worth more than people will give me for the entire saw.

    I just loaded a yard of clay into my f250 and was thinking of building something similar to this. I can just rack the material near the belt versus shoveling over the bed. Cool video.

    AWESOME.... beats the crap out of 5 gal pails. - ya sure wish I could borrow your set-up. My buddy used an old grain auger, which he ran through the basement window. ( he had to shovel slow so not to plug the auger ) I'm going to try a Grain Bin Sweep set-up but thinking of a conveyor in case this doesn't work. Will send video for you to see.

    I'm looking for a simple way to have a knee-high hopper to transport concrete sand & Portland cement up to about 6 feet high to dump into a spinning concrete mixer. I never know who I'll have manning the mixer, so it makes sense to make it as easy as possible instead of holding bags chest high, dumping into the spinning 5 cubic foot mixer.
    I'm deciding between a conveyor belt or a screw auger. Bravo on your belt conveyor!

    Rollers for flat belts are not flat! They taper up to the Center from both ends !!!
    This makes the belt run to the high spot and not run off

      @tobinbereznak  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used a splicer similar to this one: www.americasbelting.com/Baler-Belts-Accessories-Baler-Belts-JOHN-DEERE-448-BB-1010567-176?gclid=Cj0KCQjw37fZBRD3ARIsAJihSr2vZHL_CtrYFDKtnEUWM4FzNQ-9V9G8twoMJL6r5iWKYojgKg8rHZ0aAoJjEALw_wcB
      The pieces are riveted on to the belt from the under side up, then there is a piece of wire threaded through the eyelets that ties both sides together. Hope that helps good luck

    Basically doing the exact same thing. Not for the same reason though. We use conveyors that are made inhouse all the time at my work. I was about to start ordering all the stuff to make one but we have like four 16' vertical bucket conveyors that we dont use anymore. Since i have an exterior entrance and its free thats what im using. Otherwise i thought about a 8" flex auger. Its cheaper, but ive got a bunch of buried bricks to deal with.

    Hi Tobin, excellent video. I have a conveyor belt that my buddy made me almost identical to yours. The motor burnt up so I need to purchase another motor. Question , what size pulleys are you using? Where did you purchase the pulleys? Also how did you attach the large pulleys ? What size rod did you use to ride the pulleys on ? How did the pulleys get attached to the wood of your conveyor ? Thanks in advance !

    What a terrific job Tobin!! I like your idea of turning the end rollers. How did you affix the spindle / axle they turn on?

    • @tobinbereznak
      @tobinbereznak  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Kingman thanks! I drilled a hole for the 3/4" axle right at 3/4" so it was a tight fit. I did drill two holes into the roller and into one wall of the axle through which countersunk wood screws help hold the axle and roller together. Pulleys are fixed to the axles with set screws.

      Great thanks. I'm going to try and build one of these myself. I have a creek that accumulates a lot of small stone build up after big rain storms. I figure I can convey the material up out of the creek and into a trailer to haul away.

    • @tobinbereznak
      @tobinbereznak  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Kingman cool that sounds like a good application for a belt like this. Another option which may be better since you're working with rubble is an auger. I hope your project comes out well!

    How did this do for your excavation project? Did you ever have to take it apart & clean out material that may have gotten caught in the rollers?

    • @tobinbereznak
      @tobinbereznak  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey Anthony - it did pretty well, I'd say. I still have to take it apart and clean the rollers. I also plan to re-join the belt after truing up the cut on one end. It's a little off, so the belt walks around too much. All in all, Ive got quite a bit dug out so far.

      @@tobinbereznak I may steal this idea for our RC construction site. We have an RC club that meets monthly for RC trucking & construction fun. We've been tinkering with the idea of making a conveyor to move the material that we excavate from our RC sand & gravel mine site.

    • @tobinbereznak
      @tobinbereznak  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oby-1 that would be awesome with another belt! then it's a one man job. I do need to re-join the belt. The first time I did it, it wasn't straight and so it tends to walk side to side and I'm constantly fiddling with it. Oh well, first designs always have unique "features" but I have been able to remove ~150 wheelbarrows worth of clay from the new basement. Thanks for the comment happy new year!

  • @marusb
    @marusb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tobin, I'm just about to built my own conveyor and I'm absolutely amazed by what you have done. Quick question, about support for the belt. I see you're just using cross members between both beams and then flashing. Ever considered utilizing some sort of rollers? I was actually contemplating using 1-1/2" ABC between the beams and then 2" PVC for the actual rolling. No bearings... any thoughts?

    • @tobinbereznak
      @tobinbereznak  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Budzinski I think that rollers are not a bad idea and that pvc should work with fairly little friction. One thing one other viewer mentioned was tapering the rollers on the ends which is something I still have to try. I believe to make the rollers (american) football shaped. Currently the belt has a tendency to walk to one side or the other and I think convex rollers would help

    • @marusb
      @marusb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tobinbereznak But that would cause the dirt to be spilling to the sides. Why not make it the opposite. That is concave.
      As a matter of fact you almost got it with your design. All you had to do is lower the cross members on which the belt is currently travelling. That way the belt would rest on both sides on the siding (great idea btw!!) and just ever so gently sag in the middle. That arch in the center would most likely somewhat stiffen the belt up and probably cause it to travel in a more of a straight line.
      Also, what was the opening that you had where the belt is travelling, and what was the belt width itself? I was thinking of leaving no more than 1/4" of tolerance.

    • @tobinbereznak
      @tobinbereznak  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Budzinski the opening is about 14” wide by 8” high, and I had issues with large clumps sticking in the opening on the way out. Depending on how loose your substrate is, it may or may not be a problem. And yea, the belt rollers concave to contain the clay, but the drive rollers convex to align the diy uneven belt during operation

    • @tobinbereznak
      @tobinbereznak  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Budzinski the belt width is 8”, and clay for fall down on the sides and travels along the underbelt and winds up gumming up the lower roller

    Your belt is backwards. The wide part supports your back and the Velcro goes in the front so you can put it on yourself.
