Canada Dry used to have ginger until someone in Canada sold the company to Cadbury then to Keurig Dr. Pepper

Sauce Stache you just made the original recipe! As a former Product Developer for Cadbury/Dr Pepper the only thing that has changed is cheaper ingredients. The ginger extract is made almost the same way except that it is more concentrated using a distillation method. Look at the label. You’ve used citric acid in the form of lime juice. The only thing you didn’t use was caramel color, HFCS and preservatives. Unfortunately it, like all processed foods, it’s been cost reduced. As for the lawsuit, by FDA standards it still contains ginger and other natural ingredients.

I make this all the time, but I add vinegar and mint to it. It is called sekanjabin. It is an Iranian drink meant to cool you off. You can also use honey instead of sugar. It is fantastic. I mostly don’t add soda water just tap water works fine. Sometimes I’ll mix diet ginger ale into it!

    • @desertodavid
      @desertodavid 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

That sounds much healthier then adding all that sugar. I would not use diet ginger ale either because it has synthetic sugar which is just as bad for your body as any other table sugar.

Nice video! If you want to get more flavor, skip the peeling, just cut it into thin coins and dehydrate it for a few days (or 1-3 hours in a 150° oven) , then powder it in a spice grinder. The more surface area, the more flavor you get. Heating removes much of the spicy and makes it sweeter, because it converts the spicy gingerol to the adorably-named zingerone. There are a lot of ways to play around with it, but that’s the fun part!

Here is a tip. you don't have to take the skin off, just clean them with a brush. Cut the ginger up throw into a blender or food processor and throw into pot with lime. Then with a chese cloth pour steeped contents into cloth and ring out. TA DA and you probably got a way more concentrated ginger too.

Great video as always. No need to peel the ginger. And as you concluded, grating ginger is difficult, so chopping it with a knife or using a blender or someting similar is better. Though there is another type of grater that is commonly used in Japan (and maybe other places) that finely grates ginger to almost a puree with ease. Keep these great videos coming!

Canada Dry was a staple of my youth as well! All those sick days and weekends at my grandma's house. Let's just pretend it works!
Regarding your quest to find a good vegetarian bacon: since going veg I like to cut thin strips of sharp cheddar, lay them out on a parchment-lined baking sheet, sprinkle with paprika/black pepper, and bake at 350 for a few minutes. It flattens right out, and when it cools it has a nice chewy bacon-ish texture (as long as you don't overcook it). RAD substitute in almost any recipe that calls for bacon, and it's ridiculously easy to make with minimal cleanup.

Before adding in all that sugar and soda water you had a great ginger tea. You could drink it plain, add a little sugar, honey, or what ever like . Split into separate pots at start( one pot with the ginger and add some turmeric roots then boil the other pot with just ginger). Add ginger tea to other juices and chill. Add ginger tea to some cinnamon tea ( boil some cinnamon stick to get tea) would get ginger cinnamon tea or take one more step and add some hibiscus and boiled to make a Jamaican drink called sorrel. You can add your sweeter of choice and drink hot or cold. Has a lot of health benefits or if have guess and a little rum or liquor of your choice.

Ginger does, in fact, help with sea sickness, motion sickness, upset stomach, etc. It basically works the same way as cinnamon in that it helps your stomach digest things (from my understanding). Crystallized ginger is the best way to use it as a medicine, though powdered ginger and fresh ginger will work, too. Ginger brewed into a tea is also good for your respiratory system. As for the soda -- the carbonation in it is pretty much what settles your stomach.

I wonder if you could freeze the ginger mixture into cubes and just have a few in a cup of seltzer?

You can even ferment it and make it real ginger "ale". Like it was back in the day.

I did this with normal yeast and it was too bready. You have to get a citrusy yeast.

I wish I saw this Video before I bought ginger flavoring (though I don't regret buying since I'm confident I got a good brand). I'll try this recipe out when I use up my extract, don't want it going to waste.

awesome....do you think honey would be a good alternative to sugar?.....love this recipe!...thanks so much...there is a place in Gainesville, Florida they make craft ginger ales as well as craft beers..awesome place called the Swamphead Brewery

You can totally use honey! On the website I put in the notes that you can play around with the sweetener used and the amount. The cool thing about this recipe is that you can really add too it or change it and you'll still end up with a ginger syrup to use! I'll have to check out Swamphead next time I'm up that way!

fructose instead of sucrose? should work.

You can improove this by not boiling the lime zest, it just turns bitter.
Peel all the lime and cover it in the sugar you include later. Let that sugar zest mixture sit for an hour or two. By that you get all the oils from the lime peel.
Mix in the lime sugar about 5 minutes before the ginger ale is done.
    What's with the lime juice?
I add it 2 minutes before everything is done. By that you don't waste the lime juice. I prefeer that taste by far over a simple ginger ale.
Also, use a whisk, much easier.
To really get the ginger heat and aroma out, put the ginger throug a box grater and let the ginger sit in the water for atleast 30 minutes.
