      WaterspoutsOfTheDeep - Democratic Republic of Congo has one of the highest percentages of Christians in the world at 96% (much higher than Kenya) yet they fare no better than most other African nations. In fact, Africa is filled with some of the top Christian-majority nations in the world (by percentage) and it has no correlation with success/prosperity.
      I could point out the relative current AND historical prosperity of many Muslim countries and empires in Africa: Morocco, Mali, Tunisia, Libya (pre-invasion and destabilization by the West), North Africa in general, etc, yet something tells me you'd suddenly object to the idea of attributing any successes to Islam.

    I am Mexican.
    While sisal production in Mexico is at microscopic levels compared to the heyday, I'm so glad to see that this Mexican plant is still putting food on poor people's tables, somewhere.
    Other than sisal, you should also try planting some agave. It looks the same as sisal (except for being larger), it is similarly drought resistant, but rather than being a utility plant, the flesh can be baked and eaten.

    • @MrTachyon3000
      @MrTachyon3000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +110

      I agree. They should also plant cactus as they can eat the fruit and the tender pads.

    • @TheHumanNacho
      @TheHumanNacho 6 ปีที่แล้ว +106

      MrTachyon3000
      What you are referring to is Nopal cactus. Not just any cactus.
      While the diverse species of agave are cultivated exclusively for human consumption (and to create living fences for livestock and wildlife), Nopal cactus is cultivated both for human consumption and animal feed. Thing is, its spines need to be removed, and the flesh is very, very slimy unless you know how to cook it.

    • @MrTachyon3000
      @MrTachyon3000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      I'm very aware. I lived over 10 years in Michoacán and there are different varieties of edible nopal growing wild but the preferred being the more domesticated Manso because it grows larger pads and less spines. They are now growing it in the desert of Israel and making all kinds of products from it.th-cam.com/video/zlHnThYyOho/w-d-xo.html The Africans need to start adopting it as well.

    • @jamesscott2730
      @jamesscott2730 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      That's a great idea. This is a great video and it looks like growing sisal can be a great option, but it's important that people not become dependant upon importing food for survival. Sharing drought resistant food crops and farming techniques needs to be a top priority for ensuring food security around the world.
