    A few weeks ago I started an install with Rancho Differential Glide Plates and Spicer Dana 44 Avantek Differential covers on my 2020 Jeep Wrangler JL Ecodiesel. I ran into a clearance issue with the front glide plate and differential cover. I had to modify the glide plate a little bit to get it to fit in this video and finish up this install.

    Did part of the Rubicon trail with these on earlier this week. They saved my butt. I wish I could share the pics of the gashes on them on here.

    I just installed the front and rear. I had the same problem with the front . I used a small bottle jack and was able to fit the washers after I jacked it up and put a C clamp on it to hold while I started the nuts with washers. The rear fir great no issues. I plan on adding the rear shock mount plates as soon as I find a better price. Cannot justify $174 for two small brackets !! Will keep an eye out for open box items. Thanks for your tutorial . I would have added the part about applying the thread lock to the blots... Thanks again

    Don't forget to loktite the bolts before torquing to spec

    The Ubolt on the front diff plate broke after wheeling it once and it has been pretty impossible finding the correct size replacement. After 2 calls to Rancho and talking to 3 different people the only information I could get from Rancho was try having a pipe fitting place cut me a replacement because they do not sell individual parts. They would not honor the warranty and would not send a replacement U-Bolt. This was my first interaction with Rancho and not a fan. Scrapping these plates and going with a higher quality and more customer focused company. Only reason Im posting here is because people need honest information. Even this video shows modifications being needed to make these fit. That should tell you something about the product.

    Easy enough to use the same Dremel tool and oval out the holes a bit and reshape the u bolt a bit to make it fit a bit more. The thickness of the diff covers was surely not what they were designed for, oh well nice work making them fit either way

    Hey Casey, I installed my Rancho Glide plates today. I have the stock diff covers still on and the rear went on with no problem. I had the same issue as you did with the front. So, I angled the u-bolt just in front of the axle casing and installed the washers and nuts. Then I took a hammer and with 2 gentle taps it went right into place and every tightened up with no problems.

    • @Casey250

      Ah cool. Interesting that it needed a little hammering to get it on with a stock cover.

    Was the glide plate not designed for the JL? It seems odd that a company would sell a product that does not fit properly and require the customer to grind away metal to make them fit properly.

    If you could do it again, would you still use the skids? I am definitely going to get diff covers (long overdue on my JTR), but wondering if I really need skid plates too. The Dana covers seem to be my favorite option available, next to the AEVs.

  • @makatron
    @makatron 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yeah never understood why they don't provide something like this from factory, if it's meant to off-road and you want anything to slide instead of getting caught in those ridges why not? Still those plates look legit tough.

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wish Jeep offered more add-ons for a Rubicon. I know not everyone needs a ton of skids but a skid package would be a nice option to order with.

    • @MtnMoto
      @MtnMoto 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      FW Schnaar short answer: no, the factory cover is pretty thin.
      But... Adding the diff skids eliminate the chances of the major point of failure for the diff cover impacts and that's the ridge along the bottom of the diff that snags on rocks. I'm running the skids over the factory covers also. You should be good for all but the most extreme cases.
