Not having rain for eight months made things much worse, then the unusually strong winds blowing embers and preventing aircraft from flying to do airdrops of Phos-Chek turned the bad into much, much worse. A very unlucky situation occurred that made the nearly impossible, possible.

yes, because what you see in the photos of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are flat lands with what used to be houses built with lumber. and they were not destroyed by radiation, but burned down after the fire.
The question is what should be done to prevent this in the future? Power lines running under the ground rather than in the air? Better water infrastructure, dead brush clearing, more fire hydrants, updated water system? What can we learn? Different style of home building that doesn't catch fire so easily? Can we seed rain clouds during specific times of the year, there's probably some things we can do.
Not build a massive city and agricultural sector in the desert. Part of the problem was that 2 years ago there was a lot of rain, which made a lot of plant growth, that then dried out. The southwest is 5 states and Mexico sharing one renewable water source which is the Colorado, which no longer even reaches the ocean. Yet despite this being a problem for decades, it didn't stop unchecked growth. It's mainly the brush that is catching fire, so a lot of clearing and controlled burns.
Basic forestry would help quite a bit.. but that’s racist and stuff according to the left, because controlled burns hurt the environment, or so they think.

Until the 1870’s, wildfires (as today, mostly accidently or purposely human-caused) in the mountains north of Los Angeles were considered more of an attraction than a threat, especially at night. They were fondly described as “tongues of flame licking the Sierra Madre.” Since few people lived on or near the mountains, fires there caused no great alarm. In fact, two cattlemen were reported to annually ignite big fires in the mountains that raised no concern. Wildfires only first became a concern in 1884 when flooding from eroded hillsides wiped out the track system of the Southern Pacific Railroad in the Los Angeles area. Authorities finally banned needless fires and even threatened to prosecute offenders. As fires and flooding resulting from fire erosion increasingly threatened property by the late 1800s, Angelenos lost their fondness for “beautiful” wildfires and demanded fire suppression.

The houses in that area that didn't burn would be great to own. Hopefully the county will use them as a model for new building codes. Most flat roof homes are covered with plastic or other petroleum based roof coatings that melt when they burn and dripping flaming material down into the inside of the house where it sets carpets and other flamable materials on fire.
And y'all think they should have cut the grass? Control burn it? What grass? Santa Ana's used to be Oct to mid Nov latest; drifting over last 20 years. Omg the Guard has to do a search for anyone who stayed home❤
this has been very tragic and worse- rebuilding is going to cost more because newsom and co will put new building codes into effect causing rebuilding prices to skyrocket.
Those who live there can afford to rebuild.
I wonder are there any rare earth minerals in those hills? I wonder
Now they can build their “smart city”
You are very smart that’s exactly why they let it burn down
That was the plan all along.....
@@luvbeinghiswife1148 you conspiracy theorists are always right. we should all be so lucky to be as smart as yall
Not with stupid, corrupt politicians they currently have.

Gracious God, we pray for all those suffering from the ravages of this terrible conflagration.🙏
Wonder how much treasure is there?
houses are too close together
Many insurance companys are bound to go insolvent/collapse, too many claims of total loss will be filed at one time for them to be capable of paying out. Seems to me inevitable.
Look at it on maps it looks like it was a beautiful neighborhood.
here come the uber rich to buy back the block..
lol! Who the hell do you think owned it in the first place?!
It is the uber rich who owned this place!!
Not every home was destroyed. I see some that look saved.
That's because somebody wasn't dumb enough to use wood in an area prone to wildfire.
If a person, or people were in some of those homes, they are incinerated, and you will never know. So their talk of five fatalities is ridiculous.
Does anyone know if The Whiskey or the Rainbow was burnt on Sunset Blvd?
No, they weren’t burned. They are farther west of Runyon Canyon Sunset fire.

Just thinking of the people who didn't evacuate
All the sudden these celebrities are going to be cery concerned about hiw much money we're spending overseas instead of rebuilding American communities.
Their Insurance cancelled fire a few months ago because Newsom wouldn't allow a increase in rates and the risk was too high, so they pulled out.
Seems familiar to paradise fire some years back strange 🤔
Fires are like that.
Fairly normal and expected.
If there be no re-build back home ,just remove what left ,future show
If any green big greenhouses be build there or somenthink similar ,so answer you have already

Holy cow
It’s going to take 10-15 years (at least) to bring back Pacific Palisades. 🤷🏼♂️🥲
Prices are 4x what they were, People won't be coming back
Chicago had Mrs O’Learys cow and LA has Newsom dam policy

These super rich people did not do much to protect their homes. But then with Insurance they can build a better house
We just saw this same level of devastation in Paradise and Santa Rosa, CA. Lahaina,HI. This is not new. Open your eyes people. This is being allowed to continue over and over again.
This is the stupid mentality currently in California culture, when the reporter says...don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, assumedly if they are seeing their homes bured to the ground. How else are they supposed to feel 😢
This is the stupid mentality of @neillucibello988, who doesn't realize many people don't know if their homes have been destroyed or not and seeing it burned to the ground on a live broadcast might not be the best way to receive that news. You probably think the only acceptable way for a child to find out their parent has died is for them to stumble over their corpse.
