These wind-driven fires are impossible stop once they get started. We lost an entire town here in Hawaii and there's nothing that can stop them once started. They're basically hurricane fires that move horizontally. They move faster than a fire truck can setup and start fighting it. It will take enormous amounts of public and federal funding to help reduce future fires.
The Maui fires were fueled by non-native invasive grasses. Non-native grasses are also increasing California's fire frequency, from once every few decades to once every few years. Repeated prescribed burns destroy native chaparral and favor invasive grasses. Reducing fire frequency will require the restoration of native plant communities. It will require people to start seeing, appreciating, respecting, and caring for native ecosystems. And not introducing invasive species or committing arson. Also, homes should be built out of fire resistant cob.
How does throwing money at it solve the problem? Please be specific. One thing that needs to be done is more dams and more reservoirs.....not destroying existing dams and reservoirs to fix some non existent eco problem.

The spread of the Palisade fire doesn't make sense. Heavy winds were blowing from the NE (as evidenced by one of the screen shots in the vid). How can a fire spread in the direction against the wind? In the very beginning news outlets were reporting that because of the winds blowing from the NE, the Palisades fire would eventually hit the coastline. Then all of a sudden... fires miraculously began elsewhere in the opposite direction of the winds? A Stanford professor was reported saying that he spotted men starting fires. On top of that, there was a massive budget cut and layoffs of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
