    Sebastian Stan is actually unreal in this. He doesn’t really lean into being a caricature, which is great. Some of his lines are delivered really chillingly but still feel like Trump even if he doesn’t sound like him.

    • @elizabethchester
      @elizabethchester 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +172

      That's because he is acting exactly like Trump did in that era. You know why Strong feels more like modern-day Trump than Stan himself? Because Trump adopted his mannerisms and voice from the infamous Roy Cohn himself. Even in the film you can see Stan gradually transition into acting like the Trump that we are generally more familiar with. Stan isn't doing an SNL impression because he's actually trying to be era-accurate

      Man, I remember seeing Home Alone 2 when it came out in the cinema and even then, even as kids, we were aware what a shady character Donald Trump was, always trying to get his face in the media and doing business with Russian mafia since the 80s. Hence why they famously based Biff Tannen on him in Back to the Future 2. I feel like half the population's had a lobotomy or something, suddenly think this total shyster and crook is some kind of great and wonderful savior who loves America...pull the other one

    Zach Hadel and Shane Gillis both have spot on impressions of Trump, sounding near identical, however, Sebastian Stan goes for a more subtle approach in this movie (and it works). People gotta remember that he's playing Trump in the 70s & 80s, NOT the Donald we know now. He sounded very subdued back then; (just look up his interview with Oprah for more context)

    I thought it was excellent. It provides a balanced (in my opinion) and realistic portrayal of a complex man. A lot of people worship him as a golden messiah who's out to drain the swamp and save America, and a lot of people decry him as rotten pond scum hellbent on sowing as much chaos and confusion in the world as possible before he dies. As with most things however, he's far more nuanced than either of those perspectives would lead you to believe. I appreciate this film taking the mature and realistic route where it would be so easy to take potshots and tug on low hanging fruit.

    Ali Abbasi has masterfully done it in this movie , he has placed a mirror in front of the audience, maybe you don’t like what you see but the solution is not to break the mirror.
    Also , the Superficial Hollywood films are an important factor in making the viewer's mind easy to grasp, as the audience doesn’t red to think deeply when he/ she is watching an Hollywood’s movie .then watching movies like The Apprentice, will be difficult to understand for minds that are used to not thinking.

    Felt like the filter thing from film to digital was also about the actual era of time being shown in those sections. I think they tried to make the movie have a documentary-esque feel, so they were using the look from the era (as it changes from 70s to 80s) as though this was maybe footage someone discovered

    The way the film was shot struck me. It has these constant filter, it's in 4:3 and I feel like they only used a tripod a few times, the camera feels like there's a person behind it no one in the film acknowledges was something I loved.
    As much as it's billed as a Trump film, it, like you kinda said, probably could have been a Cohn film. I saw someone describe it as a Frankenstein esque film where Roy creates this monster and loses control of it.
    I'm glad it didn't go as heavy as it could have, I thought the scene of Stone and Trump in the Taj with the 'let's Make America Great Again' scene was corny and anymore wouldn't have been great. It saves the truly monstrous scene and plays it insanely well.

    If only you could remain unbiased, I was enjoying a lot of your video but the constant jabs at trump are really not necessary, just review the film in an unbiased way instead of saying “To look at Donald trump as the root of so many problems… because he is”, “he was at one point a person”, also you contradict yourself when you go from “I don’t think it’s as simple as saying Roy Cohn created trump” to “how he created trump”, other than some obvious bias you have against trump i would say you were pretty fair about the film!

    If you gave a review without constantly peppering your disdain for the person in which the main character is based on, and constantly apologizing for saying anything that may be construed as not negative about the person in which the main character is based on, you might learn to actually be a film critic. It was nauseating listening to you constantly tell the viewer how much you don’t like Trump.
