"The TARDIS should be able to shapeshift in to other things" A normal TARDIS does! The Doctor's is broken - or it just likes being a police box "Every time the TARDIS materializes in a new location, within the first nanosecond of landing, it analyzes its surroundings, calculates a twelve-dimensional data map of everything within a thousand mile radius, and determines which outer shell would blend in best with the environment... and then it disguises itself as a police telephone box from 1963."
10:19 I didn't pick up on this till after myself, but the machine called him a "shapeshifter" due to all the different regenerations, it could tell that, it just didn't say he was "Chuldur" and Rogue assumed.
The trap was only capable of transporting 6 people, the Rogue was the seventh, which is why the trap overloaded and opened for a second for Ruby to get out
I thought it was to do with who had the controller? Rogue took it from the Doctor which let him penetrate the barrier and shove Ruby outside of it, unfortunately getting stuck himself.
Yeah, Rogue jumps into the trap, pushing Ruby out, and the controller says “matter transfer.” It was the same idea as the bag of sand from the start of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
@chiffon788 Right, but not just anybody could do that, yes? It took someone with the controller who knew what they were doing who was willing to sacrifice themself. (I’m not trying to pick a fight, just making sure I read the scene right. A lot of people seem confused by what happened.)
@@karlmortoniv2951 The mechanics of the trap weren’t specified to that degree. They just mentioned a weight limit and the fact that increasing the weight limit as much as they had would also make the trap single-use. It’s Rogue’s trap initially, so clearly he knew that the possibility of a matter transfer was on the table. He took the controller to use himself because if he didn’t, the Doctor would be left in the same position, just choosing to sacrifice Rogue instead of Ruby, which the Doctor had just said he couldn’t do.
It’s still a really cheap way of undercutting that scene, and confusing at best how it would work. Also, how Ruby would not only know to mimic the neck twitch those bird creatures do, but do it well enough to trick both the Doctor and Rogue (complete with audible cues) seems deeply questionable.
8:38 the TARDIS is designed to change its exterior shape to match the era/place it lands in but it got stuck in the police box shape when the doctor landed in 1963 and never changed again
To me the Doctor is a firecracker romantic, quick hot and often short. It's extremely rare for him to fall for someone but when it generally does happens it's with someone who's equally a firecracker. The only two acceptations being the person he had a family with before the series began and other that is grown over several seasons who were long term romances. Would love to see Rogue come back and be a new long term romance.
In Space Babies, the older woman appeared on the screen as one of the crew that were protesting leaving the ship, but she appeared as The Doctor turns away so he didn't see her then. As for other Doctors, they are all the same person, just with a different body and personality, so the current Doctor remembers being all of the others, but there's no spiritual link, just like there's no way to speak to yourself at age 15.
23:15 The older woman (played by Susan Twist) is also in “The Devil’s Chord” as an Abbey Road tea lady but again the doctor was looking the other way. And she appears in the 60th anniversary special “Wild Blue Yonder” should you ever go back and watch it
I LOVE all your questions! When this season is over in a few weeks, you have to start with the first episode of New Who -- "Rose". You will get answers to so many of your questions and I can't wait to watch it unfold with you! You'll meet many of the Doctors you saw in that montage of faces... and each one is amazing and wonderful! Then at some point you have to go through Classic Who from the very beginning (you'll meet a few of those Doctors in New Who, as well). I love every Doctor, although I have my favorites, and you will, too! So much fun coming your way! Thank you for a wonderful reaction.
the doctor has had prior love interests, though prior to the modern show (2005-) the topic rarely came up and indeed people used to often read the character as asexual. of course a few episodes ago he talked about his granddaughter, who was his first companion when the show began way back in 1963-so clearly there's some history there. and actually, one of the only hints of romance in the classic era is in that first season, with william hartnell's elderly doctor. the 1996 tv movie changed the status quo with a fundamentally romantic, byronesque doctor-and russell t davies consciously carried that over and built on it when reviving the show. to be sure the doctor is still fundamentally a giant nerd, and sex and romance and love beyond a platonic level are rarely top of their mind-but yeah, let's just say thst toying with just that obliviousness is catnip to a certain kind of writer. 😆 gatwa's doctor is on another level of confidence and openness with his feelings, so it is novel to see the doctor as bold and charming as he is here-even as he wears his dorkiness on his sleeve.
Yeah, the nasty comments about this episode have really been over the top. One guy said he was trying to watch the show with his children but declared that he would not expose them to such pornography as he saw in “Rogue.” I mean…. 😳
It's really funny considering the episode has the characters deliberately dance together to cause a scandal among the homophobic people of the time period to attract the villains. Like, if you're genuinely angry the episode showed a thing that exists and is normal, you're kinda playing into what they were trying to do here. Way to confirm your brain belongs in 1813.

There are sixty years of backstory for this show and you could google search and answer a bunch of questions, but I recommend that you do not go there. When/if you choose to dive into the earlier seasons of the show, you’ll catch up. Much more fun that way. 😊
I loved this episode, my favourite of the season just so much fun start to finish and it was a breath of fresh air with how experimental other episodes have been so far. I hope no one spoils things by answering your questions in depth, I'll just say that after finishing this series definitely go back and watch from the start of the 2005 revival

"I thought it was gone" he said to the man with a time machine. We as fans know what really happened but even. Of you don't know... Brother he's got a time machine
Anyone saying the Doctor is soft needs to remember that's kind of one of the most common Doctor's styles. And they are still given titles by their enemies like "The Predator of the Daleks", "The Destroyer of Skaro" and "The Oncoming Storm". The most warlike and dangerous species in the Universe has an asylum for its most broken warriors, and the section for the most broken... is filled with the handful that survived the Doctor. The character is supposed to be terrifying and unknowable, a face put over something ancient and alien and unimaginably powerful. He isn't going to freaking kickbox someone, because he's basically an ancient eldritch horror playing at humanity. How ancient? His canon age is technically about 3 Billion years (Sort of).
Prefacing this by saying it isn’t a spoiler for the show. There’s a company called Big Finish who do full cast Doctor Who audio dramas. They invented a character called The Eleven: a Time Lord whose past personalities are still very much present, to the point of him often literally arguing with himself. Every time he regenerates a new voice gets added to the chattering, bickering chorus in his head, all of them fighting for control, driving the new incarnation as mad as they are. Doubt he will ever show up in the TV series, but it’s a great idea for a villain.
"The TARDIS should be able to shapeshift itself to other things." Funny you should mention that... because it's supposed to 😁 Canonically, the TARDIS has a component called the "chameleon circuit" that does let it change its appearance to blend in with the surroundings wherever it lands. But the Doctor's TARDIS has had a broken chameleon circuit pretty much forever, and he's gotten used to the blue Police Box design, so he doesn't bother trying to fix it anymore. The reason the scanner identified the Doctor as a shapeshifter is because Time Lords regenerate whenever they would die. The current Doctor played by Ncuti Gatwa is the fifteenth (or perhaps more, depending on certain backstory elements) regeneration; each regeneration has totally different DNA, is played by a different actor, and even has some different personality traits. So if you're scanning for a creature who can change its appearance and DNA at will... technically, Time Lords count.

"the tardis should be able to shapeshift itself" well about that.... lol there is a lore reason for it but in all honestly its more of a BS reason to explain away why it never changes because that would cost them more money and the show has always been criminally low budget. Though now we got some of that Disney money

The Doctor has a wife - River Song. Before that, he fell in love with Rose after a few seasons.
beak or mouth not bouth
OHHH maybe it is an xmen reference
The first black Dr.Who should have been more like Black Panther or Killmanger or Shaft or Captain Cisco from Deep Space Nine!
But he isnt the first darker skinned doctor who theres multiple
Rose and River Song were love interests
Spoilers. ;)
I wonder if he'll invite his wife or her husbands to the wedding?
Hey, hold on a bit, the Doctor loves someone and probably got married, but it's not with Rogue. Let's remember that he has a granddaughter and she came from somewhere.
The first black Dr.Who should have been more like Black Panther, Killmanger, Shaft, Shaka Zulu, Superfly, MLK, Malcom X, Blade, Spawn, Falcon,Green Lantarn, and Captain Cisco from Deep Space Nine ! 😂🎉🎉😂😮
As a (straight)black man, this black Dr.Who is a terrible representation of 95% of black men! This Doctor is soft, weak, and emotionally fragile. He cries way too much and too easily.
Everyone is different, he's not a bad representation, he just doesn't represent you
Make black men great again! 😂😮😊😢😂
Enough is enough! Stop making black men gay in every movie or modern tv shows.
No black man should watch this show! This love story is terrible and pathetic.
I have no respect for this black Dr.Who. He is soft, weak, and emotionally fragile. All the blood clot crying and terrible acting, is just too annoying!
Oih hater f off somewhere else
That was just woke shit
Because of a gay relationship? You know gay people exist right? 😂
This is just too SAD😢. Look at what the LGBT COMMUNITY has turned black men and black characters into.
Black gay people exist btw
In real life!
