    I had a ‘77 also in 1998. It was spotless, low miles and triple black paint, top and interior. Pontiac 350 motor with automatic transmission. It was a cool cruiser with the Radial Tuned Suspension.

    I had a '77 Grand Prix SJ years ago. For me, it ran like a top. One of the most reliable cars I ever owned and for some reason, it was good on gas too - but gas was .99c a gallon at the time. I use to drive it from AC from Philly on $4 of gas - no lies, even though I used to spook myself by trying to make it on 5 gallons!

    I remember back then seeing these all over the place. These were the MID-size personal luxury cars! Along with these cruising around were plenty more in the same class. There were Thunderbirds, Cordobas, Monte Carlos, Chargers, Cougars, Regals and Cutlass Supremes galore. AMC even joined in with designer Oleg Cassini and Barcelona Matador coupes. It was a great time. Now we have to look at these d*mned SUV's everywhere you turn. Back then we had chrome, curves, and classic style! Now we get nav systems, seats that kick you in the a** if you drift out of lane and styling inspired by Godzilla.

      I thought the 4.9 (301) only came in the 78-81, then again later on in the 88-89 before they dropped the V8 for the all new V-6 line up. This the only 1977 that i heard of coming with a 301 as those big bodies always came with nothing smaller than a 350/355/400/455.

      Mine too he had a 1978 SJ black with the red pinstripe and dual exhaust his came with the 301ci 4 brrl.with the half landau top, he later took out the 301 and replaced it with a 350 cammed rocket engine and it sounded gooould with them headers we could hear him coming from almost a mile away and when he was coming up the street and pulling into the yard my grandfather would gripe and fuss sometimes at how loud that car was as my uncle was an security guard and he got off late at night and sometimes early in the am hours.aww man nothing like the good ole 80's-early 90's and i got one back in 2001 i had an 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix SE with that 3100 DOHC and did a cataylic converter delete and rebuilt engine and that thing would chop at idle and roast tires when i wanted it too as well as fly down the hwy.

The wife had a head on collision and totaled car(she survived). Was so happy with car went and bought a gourgious 1976 SJ. Was Silver with Black Landau black buckets with every option. I had some friends of mines whose father got them their first car in 1992 which was a 1979 GP SJ red w/white full landau top, and we pulled my uncles 1978 GP SJ black/blk car out of the barn shed, and me and my buddy dropped another 350 in it and the half top was still in great shape only needed a good wash and armour oil where as my buddies 79 GP's full top was cracked and they wound up taking it off several months later on but both was great handsome cars for us in our youth.

  • @landyachtfan79
    @landyachtfan79 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1977 would be a VERY confusing year for GM's full-size & intermediate cars, like the Grand Prix shown here, as the downsizing of the full-size cars brought them down to exactly the same size as the intermediates. The 1973-1977 General Motors Colonnade coupes were already breathtakingly beautiful to begin with, but there is just SOMETHING about a Grand Prix or Monte Carlo from this generation that does things to me that would make me violate TH-cam's Community Standards/Terms of Service if I were to post them here!!!!!

    I always felt the GP was so superior to a Regal or Monte Carlo. Now a Monte with the 454 , fully loaded with white buckets ,
    Now we’re talking.
    I know cause I drove a 73’ GP and my friend had a 77’ Regal. I drove that brand new Regal and the feeling in the steering wheel was inferior to the 73’ GP. I think a lot of people then didn’t realize how awesome the 70’s Grand Prix’s were. You know they would say, yea those are nice too. Lol

And lasted much longer than my crappy Pontiac Grand Prix... Regal and Cutlass are FAR better looking than the Pontiac Grand Prix and Chevy Monte Carlo every year make and model hands down.

Meaning the body is not sitting properly on the frame or something because it's off on all of them anybody got any answers ?
