14.26 with ogre mages, the objective in a 3v3 is to rush the enemy and destroy everything. With paladins, the objective is to erect a church in the centre of the map. This can be accomplished by one player placing a farm near the centre and seeing if anyone else bites to place a farm/pig farm alongside. If those structures accumulate, someone is going to build a church.
my gues from observation. is that their damage output isn't hight or fast enouth as a footman will hit a target 2 or 3 times before an archer/ranger will make their second hit, and seeing as these games have been optimise, my gues as a total noob. is that archers and axe throwers are situational at best, and your better of using balista or catapult as those have futher range and splash damage.

Also you can try hard start for violet human. There is a % chance to play hardmode if take default settings, or delete red units from game.
When u have access to gryphons and mages, it's interesting to consider the role of paladins.

I had a question are archers and axe throwers useless in multiplayer? I never see anyone use them.
Against dragons and gryphons they are useful.

That's how it is. Archers and axe throwers are only useful against dragons or gryphons. In another situation, they are very rarely useful.
