  • Warning: half this video is Japanese arcades! As soon as we got to Tokyo we hit the arcades in Shinjuku to check out the UFO catchers.
    Travelling from Kyoto to Tokyo on the shinkansen (bullet train) and having an ekiben bento box for the first time. Room tour of our Tokyo hotel in Kabukicho, and meeting up with our friends in Shinjuku for okonomiyaki. After that we hit the arcades (game centres) to see which anime figures were in the UFO catchers. I found an amazing Love Live display! We also found an arcade full of cute Amuse plush - and so many kawaii hamsters!

    Hallo.
    Shinjuku is one of most exciting district of Tokyo.
    There are much interesting things and places.
    But, sometimes, somewhere, not clean and safety.
    If you have some next opportunity of to go to Shinjuku, please take care for safety.
    Tomorrow is Thursday.
    I can't wait with your video!
    I'm looking forward so much !
    Please enjoy !

      Japan feels like quite a safe country to me, and I heard the crime levels are low. But yes, it's important to use your common sense!

    japan has the best arcades hands down

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly does! Here in the UK there's nothing like them - only small arcades at bowling alleys, holiday parks etc with a few videogames. All the UFO catchers and capsule machines are full of cheap toys for kids.

    • @isabellelee4684
      @isabellelee4684 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      well i think they have the most but if you really wanna play it and actually "get" toys instead of wasting money i recommend getting to South Korea i've never been to Japan but i'm hoing soon but my friend who visited both S.K and Japan said so but i'll def try in Japan for the anime figures

      Isabelle Kim In Akihabara there are shops where you can buy the prize figures. I have no skills at UFO catchers so that's what I do! They're usually about 1200 - 1500 Yen.

    You wouldn't believe how much Japan has changed over the years. Akihabara used to be almost all underground down in the subway tunnels. Also, the streets all around the Ginza were vacant until 8AM as ppl waited in the subways for the stores above ground to open...it went from 0 to 14 million people in the blink of an eye! Another thing not talked about is the fact that almost all the stores in Tokyo use every inch of space so there's parks, restaurants etc., on top of almost all the buildings.

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      How interesting! When I first went I didn't realise how much of the city's above and below ground level, and how you have to look up for signs and go upstairs to find places - makes you realise how densely populated it is.

    How do you decide on a hotel?
    Price?
    Location?
    Reviews?
    How much do you rely on reviews for your travels?

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually go on a hotel booking site, set the price range and area, then pick somewhere close to a station for convenience. I look at the reviews but remember there will always be some people who are never happy and complain about anything!! :-) Honestly I've never stayed anywhere in Japan that I haven't been satisfied with, or that hasn't been perfectly clean. There's more about booking hotels in this video - hope it helps! th-cam.com/video/NVOD1SoayEQ/w-d-xo.html

    The arcade is literally calling for me to come and fly over there! Lol
    Great video by the way! Whilst in Japan, was it easy to find your way around and talk to people in English e.g asking directions or food ordering?

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chloé Kirkland Thanks! Finding your way around & getting the train is easy because most signs are in English too. I highly recommend getting an offline maps app because not all streets have road names! Some people speak a bit of English but not that many, so asking for directions could be tricky! Most restaurants in the main areas have English menus, so you can make yourself understood when ordering and buying things. It's nice to learn a few Japanese words: arigatou, sumimasen, etc :-)

    Hi! How big was the room that you stayed in?

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most Tokyo hotel rooms are really small - mostly with only just enough room to put your suitcases out. (room tour's in the video!) :-) Unless you have a lot of money for a more expensive room! But it's ok as you're out and about most of the time.

    Just found your channel doing last min Shinjuku research for our trip in two days. We will be staying at the Grandbel Hotel as well. Any recommendations as which station to take to get around the best? Was it a far walk from Shinjuku Station? Loving all your videos so far especially the 'How expensive' ones. Cheers!

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah how exciting! Good choice with the Granbel - the rooms are small (like most hotels in Tokyo) but they are nice! It's very close to Higashi Shinjuku Station (we ended up doing the "Tochomae change" all the time - to get between Higashi Shinjuku and Shinjuku on the pink line). You can also walk to Shinjuku Sanchome, and the main Shinjuku Station is about 10-15 mins walk (not recommended when you have your suitcases with you). Everything in the main area of Shinjuku is in easy reach, it's a great location. If you fancy a longer walk it is possible to walk to Harajuku too. Have an amazing time!!! :-)

      Isabelle Kim It's the Shinjuku Granbel Hotel in Kabukicho :-) There are lots of arcades & game centres in the major areas like Shinjuku, Ikebukuro & of course Akihabara, they're all pretty similar to this one!

      I've never taken a taxi in Japan myself, but the easiest way would probably be to use Uber. The Tokyo metro looks confusing but it takes you everywhere you need to go. It's clean and safe, and all the signs are in english as well as Japanese. :-)
