Did you ever get one Mark? If you prefer more off road, get a 07 or earlier because the plastic isn't as vulnerable so you won't necessarily need exterior bash guards. If you get an 08+, you absolutely need exterior bash guards because that plastic is garbage and cracks instantly. How do I know... a guy had just bought a new model and we went on some trails. He barely hit the lower fairing on something and it busted it all up. So sad they went with that harder plastic.
Kind of adons you really cant see straigth away, but you notice some kind of difference on the look.... I like that. Not to fancy pantsy Happy new year mate, looking forward to follow you and the guys (maybe mrs mason) for a new seson.
I like that rear tire at the end of the video. I'm still trying to put the breakin miles on my 2018 KLR. Hard to do as OTR Truck driver. Guess I can watch everyone else ride there's. Thx for your info.
@@masonsadv kiwi work mate (south island ) taught me of it's versatility . Drying welding rods ,drying epoxy and paint . Not to mention heatshrink and plastic welding. Hope you're having a good time playing with the drone.
Yeah that's possible Zerzil. Many have to cut 1/2 to 3/4 inch out even without the stand pad. For some reason my bike never suffered from that and the suspension has helped even further. Cheers!
@@masonsadv Really like the side stand switch guard and the turn signal guards myself! Im about to go out to the garage and install the thermobob on my 2013. Thanks for the great content Mason!
Some good products there. I have many items from AE Motosports but I am not sure that they are still trading. I will look into the blinker supports as they may stop the blinkers from shaking themselves to bits!
Hey Drew, The blinker supports really stiffen up the stalk but they wont do anything for the rubber mount. Still, I wasn't too worried about the mount and it sure adds strength to the stalk! Cheers!
Master Cylinder guard looks tasty, not sure about any of the other stuff. Side stand switch plate looks suspect for sure. Cant wait to see how it tests out.
I don't like the rear brake reservoir protector. It seems that it protects the reservoir but it's shorter than the original and it doesn't extend downward far enough to protect the nipple where the hose connects to at the bottom of the reservoir. That breaks off and you'll be without rear brakes for a while.
Hi Mason, Great videos. There are a couple of things I have questions about your build. I noticed that you don't have an aftermarket pipe or header on your bike. Could you tell me the thought behind not doing that as a mod? The next question is if you have ever looked into doing the tubeless system for the bike and what your thoughts were on it?
Hi, your right, I don't have an aftermarket exhaust and there are a couple reasons for that. First is the cost vs performance gains and second is I like being quiet ;) The only reason I would do an exhaust system is for the weight reduction but I haven't found a quiet replacement yet. As for the tubeless system I think they have their place for sure but I personally don't run them. Thanks for watching! Cheers.
That's the SW Motech rear rack. It has been amazing and yes, you can keep the OEM tool kit. Krono Parts makes one too, also has the OEM tool kit spot I see, but I haven't tried it yet.
I can get a good deal on a klr but I was wondering how well it does on a 3000 km highway trip involving a lot of 100+kph.. And no i wasn't planning on using adventure tires ,at 71 my off road days are over !!!Thanks
Hey Vance, It's a huge single cylinder. It will do 100 to 110 kms all day but it's designed for the low end grunt. If your mostly running pavement and some light gravel roads you may find the twins like the Versys or V-Strom a better fit. They will handle the higher rpm's all day comfortably. Cheers and good luck with the search :)
Thanks Mason......always enjoy and benefit from your videos. I see that the kickstand foot pad seems to add a fraction of an inch to the length (height) of the stand. Your kick stand looks to me to be the stock item that I have found to be too tall for the bike......leaving the rig very vulnerable to uneven ground and even strong wind tip overs. I eventually installed an aftermarket shorter kick stand and it has just been great at stabilizing the parked bike. However, the shorter version has no foot print at all, making the Kronos device useless. Have you experienced any of the grief mentioned above? Cheers.
Yes it does Rob. I would say it adds 1/8". My stand is stock and unlike most, I've never had a problem. The Cogent suspension has also helped so this plate works well for me.
I took my stock sidestand off , cut 1” off and re-welded it.. that way I still have the larger stock footprint and the shorter sidestand.. I’m kidding about me welding it.. I had it tig- welded by someone who knows what he’s doing 😂 Cost $60... totally worth it... just something to consider
Mason, do you know how to contact krono? There are several parts I would like to order from them, but they’re are many that show out of stock. Wanting to get an idea if and when they will re stock?
The reservoir cover? It's built strong but yeah, it did need a tweek to line up. Everything else bolted right up and seems to be well built. Cheers Gypsy and thanks for the info :)
Appears that it may be more solid, but it doesn't cover near as much as the factory one and seems to leave the tube more vulnerable. The fact it sticks much further out is ridiculous as well. Very poor design in my opinion.
Ya looks like nice stuff Mason. Nice bit of editing almost got to see your mug lol. Just the hair on your chini chin chin.ha.when we going to have a face revealing. 👍👍

I just bought onw 3 weeks ago with low miles. I am having a blast on it and 50 mpg mileage to boot!

Do you have an on-road tool kit recommendation?
My KLR sits quite upright, I somewhat think that another inch might topple it over.

One thing i have always wondered about your garage. The wood flooring in the garage? Service bay?
Yeah Mike, It's a pit but I seldom use it any more. The days of fixing trucks to go to work the next day are luckily behind me ;) Cheers!
Any idea who makes a kickstand guard for a 2003 model? Great vids by the way!
Switch guard or side stand foot? I don't see anything with a quick google search but If it's the foot you could just weld a plate onto it. Cheers!

Yeah, that's an option Dave. I'll try these out and see how they stand up. Cheers!
