I had seen their original video featuring use of this, but that was not ABOUT it, they just gave a few sneak peaks of it. What I liked most about it, which you may not notice right away here, is that the projector is designed to look like paint and actually "drips" down whatever it's aimed at.
marco github.com/LeonFedotov/L.A.S.E.R.-TAG-GRL/blob/master/Theodore%20Watson%20-%20GRL%20Laser%20Tag%20Rotterdam%20-%20how%20to%20and%20source%20code.pdf I’m feelin ya though
Actually, it was done with a 5 kilowatt projector... a piece of gear I work with regularly in my line of work. They rarely sell for less than $20k, each.
yeah thats it...thats why you need such a strong laser so the camera will be able to pick up the light from that far of a distance...... if you goto GRLs website they have videos of them projecting across some HUGE bay in Honk Kong its pretty sweet
I don't know exactly how much it cost but the equipment the used in this video is: 1 PC Laptop - ASUS A8JS - Core 2 Duo 1.83 Ghz 1GB Ram Nvideo Geforce Go 7300 256MB - VGA and DVI out. 1 Pansonic PTD5600U 5000 ANSI Lumens 1024x768 DLP Projector. 1 Watec 221S Security/Astrononmy Camera with manual iris zoom lens. 1 Bogen magic arm and super clamp. 1 Pinnacle PCTV USB capture card. 1 60mW Green Laser (super illegal in a lot of places and very dangerous) and loads and loads of AAA batteries.
It costs about $10K to forklift this project but totally worth it! You could have hours on end of fun!! If anyone does this though be wary about the laser, it can blind someone on contact to their face (not just the actual eye) and most places consider such lasers illegal. But that being said I still would do it.
i tihnk his is a project where theres a computer, a projector and a lasser. The lasser works as mouse in the computer if you were using paint and then the projector does its work
There's a program that can identify where the laser points at the building. Then it sends the information to the projector which draws on the building! Very nice, you can download the program and if you have a projector and a laser... well u can tag! But dunno where to find the program...
guys, its not that easy, the projector would have to be way brighter than something you would buy at circut city, and plus, its not the projector that sensing the laser, its a computer probly hooked up to some sort of camera
i cant remember which, but in another video you can see the screen of the laptop connected to the projector... im just guessing. (total stab in the dark) but i would assume the projector (or something) can "see" the green laser, which the computer then processes into a blue line for the output. the software adds the dripping effect for the graffiti spray paint feel. but like i said, total guess, i have no idea. would like to know though if someone DOES know? :P
actually is a bit more complicated than that... its a laptop, powerful projector, and a security camera i think .......Camera records the building and laser.....laptop is running some sort of script (find GRLs website for open source) basically is traces the laser as it hits the building and tells the projector to project where the light has been.....allowing you to draw....also a clear area when laser hits clear area project returns to blank..... bumdass
there's plenty of them... but couldn't find the bookmark :( anyway, you can always google for it... but you need to know that some of them are really strong and can hurt (catch something or someone on fire), or hurt eyes. so use them responsibly (at the end of the video, it was kinda dumb, he could've turned around and severely damaged his vision)
i think i get it, so the security camera capture what the laser draw on the building right? proceed to the computer, then the projector projects it (as the laser drawn and the security camera captured)
(No audio, so not sure if explained in video--) How expensive was this laser scanner system? How much experience and how long did it take to build? What did you use for your image capture system for the green laser? Was it simply based on chroma key? Thanks!
Cool looking... I'm not one who comes on and "fakes" every video, but how does the laser make different shapes in the letters instead of just the same sized line? What I'm saying is the letters have wide sections and narrow sections, just like graffiti, but how would you do that with just a laser beam? Seems fishy to me.
Jihad: "Within the realms of Islamic jurisprudence, jihad usually refers to the struggle to evolve as a human being, to better yourself, while the lower jihad is known as the literal fighting in the cause of god.[2][3] In broader usage and interpretation, the term has accrued both violent and non-violent meanings. It can refer to striving to live a moral and virtuous life, to spreading and defending Islam, and to fighting injustice and oppression, among other usages."
You need some equipment to do this... 1 PC Laptop . 1 Pansonic PTD5600U 5000 ANSI Lumens 1024x768 DLP Projector. 1 Watec 221S Security/Astrononmy Camera with manual iris zoom lens. 1 Bogen magic arm and super clamp. 1 Pinnacle PCTV USB capture card. 1 60mW Green Laser (super illegal in a lot of places and very dangerous) By the way..this stuff isnt cheap. the projector with the lens cost 6 grand by itself. The song sounds like Sublime Peace yall
yeah man, ebay!!! im in australia and on aus ebay they about $30 (we have a really weak dollar though. by the way this projector IS EXPENSIVE!!! everything else only need be a basic laptop/cam/pointer. (these pointers did used to cost a shitload but thanks to china...)

Brings back so many memories..

I remember that there was this nice webpage were they documented the project, back when the internets were cool.

this video brings back memories from like 10 years ago? ani upDATE from grl?
Actually, it was done with a 5 kilowatt projector... a piece of gear I work with regularly in my line of work. They rarely sell for less than $20k, each.
That. Is the single most coolest thing, I have ever seen.
yeah thats it...thats why you need such a strong laser so the camera will be able to pick up the light from that far of a distance......

The song is Don Carlos - Laser Beam..
the song is laser beam by don carlos
I have been trying to find the Bennett4Senate’s Rotterdam mix, I had it years ago. A track list would be fine.
so it`s just a very powerful projector projects writing on building and laser is just sort of a pointer....
wow...very impressive
I don't know exactly how much it cost but the equipment the used in this video is:

Don Carlos - Lazer Beam
^^ song, if you just checked the oldest pages people already asked the question and it got answered
Song by Don Carlos - Pass Me The Laser Beam
Instructions are on the Grafitti Research Lab site
It costs about $10K to forklift this project but totally worth it! You could have hours on end of fun!! If anyone does this though be wary about the laser, it can blind someone on contact to their face (not just the actual eye) and most places consider such lasers illegal. It's street art, what encompasses graff writing.
i tihnk his is a project where theres a computer, a projector and a lasser. The lasser works as mouse in the computer if you were using paint and then the projector does its work
i love the drips, so messy yet so clean
There's a program that can identify where the laser points at the building. Then it sends the information to the projector which draws on the building! Very nice, you can download the program and if you have a projector and a laser... well u can tag! But dunno where to find the program...
This is the Don Carlos version and Sublime covers it sort of.
I used to live in Rotterdam, it's an amazing city.
i have never seen that before in my life i have to get one of these for my house at night let me know what it is and how to get one
beautiful
guys, its not that easy, the projector would have to be way brighter than something you would buy at circut city, and plus, its not the projector that sensing the laser, its a computer probly hooked up to some sort of camera
Its funny you can see that guy rolling a joint/cig. Also at the end you can tell they are all blazed. haha, good ole Holland.
@JoshMcCue data projector with laser "stylus" had them in highschool. 10 years ago.
they took graff to another level
That is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
they are using a camera to pick up the green lazer not the projector, the projector is just projecting the image.
umm.. THEY ARE USING A PROJECTOR.... so it does work over this distance... the laser is only used to show the projector where to shine.
In this case it was the Pansonic PTD5600U 5000 ANSI Lumens 1024x768 DLP Projector.
i cant remember which, but in another video you can see the screen of the laptop connected to the projector...
im just guessing.
(total stab in the dark)

That's one of the coolest things i've seen in a while!
HEYYY this song ist from DON CARLOS!!!! Download IT!!! viva el reggae en Guatemala!
To his eyes, yes.
actually is a bit more complicated than that...
its a laptop, powerful projector, and a security camera i think .......Camera records the building and laser.....laptop is running some sort of script (find GRLs website for open source) basically is traces the laser as it hits the building and tells the projector to project where the light has been.....allowing you to draw....also a clear area when laser hits clear area project returns to blank.....
bumdass
there's plenty of them...
but couldn't find the bookmark :(
anyway, you can always google for it... but you need to know that some of them are really strong and can hurt (catch something or someone on fire), or hurt eyes. so use them responsibly (at the end of the video, it was kinda dumb, he could've turned around and severely damaged his vision)
the laser can hurt someone if pointed at exposed skin/eyes/ears/nose
the "my pin is" was hillarious!!!
It´s awesome! I love it! And I love the sound? Can u tell me the name of the song or interprete?
its amazing how they got a drip affect at 1:20
hence saying "i guess"
i never said i'm an expert in that field
I'm surprised that the cops did'nt come over, yank the laser, then do the same thing.
i think i get it, so the security camera capture what the laser draw on the building right? proceed to the computer, then the projector projects it (as the laser drawn and the security camera captured)
What an awsome implementation of current technology!! XD
GRL FOR LIFE/FTW!!!!!111
i'm gonna do this in my small town, probably get on tv...
without the laser tracking, that's the tricky part...
It's called laser beam by Don carlos
@aphexmandelbrot
can't explain how hilarious this is.
How does light "stick" on a wall - and then just get erased? (just from a laser pointer)?
just... incredible
(No audio, so not sure if explained in video--) How expensive was this laser scanner system? How much experience and how long did it take to build? What did you use for your image capture system for the green laser? Was it simply based on chroma key?
Thanks!
Yea but although its a 'fucking projector' its cool because you can control what the laser projects with a small handheld laser.
if i saw a building at night, just getting huge grafitti, i would just we like "WTF ?!"
Don Carlos - Pass the laser beam..real roots music
Nice piece of kit, shame it'll probably just be snapped up by the advertising agencies to sell us more crap, only with ten story ads!
Cool looking... I'm not one who comes on and "fakes" every video, but how does the laser make different shapes in the letters instead of just the same sized line?
What I'm saying is the letters have wide sections and narrow sections, just like graffiti, but how would you do that with just a laser beam? Seems fishy to me.
the drips are sick..
SawEEET! Dude, I'd give anything to try that out somewhere.
i am a graf writer and that was the most amazing thing i have ever seen. i want to know how to do it.
why were they so afraid of the laser and how do they make it stay on the wall?
damnn thats awesome. i wanna do it. it must be kinda hard to write neat with a laser on something so far away.
im going to try do this in NewZealand, tell you how it works out
if i saw them doing it here in vegas, id bring my 125mW laser

Don Carlos - Laser Beam
Laser beam by Don Carlos
Because there is a projector, camera, and a laptop involved as well. this is NOT fake though.
Very nice video!
Are the drips made by a software?
btw: whats the name of the song?
the sickest thing i've ever seen
i think it's the program they use
You need some equipment to do this...

5/5
At the end, they tell him not to move.. Why? Is the green laser dangerous?
Duuude..awsome..
Is it projected? or does the green laser actually do something? wtf..how does it work!!?
You need some equipment to do this...
