Luis refers to death and funerals in here its really freaky and upsetting but also so fucking important that we get to hear that he was fucking happy, so happy with Exister that we know he put out his best work for us x

"... But for me, my fucken music encapsulates everything. I'm giving you everything, I'm literally giving everyone everything, and hopefuly this shit lives forever. I don't want to be an overnight success like some of these fucking bands. I want to fucking live forever..."
And I think he will live forever in his music 🖤

His music meant so much to me, both as a listener and as a fellow musician. He sold me the electronic drum pad he used on Total Decay and Zeros a couple of years ago and that was how I first talked to him. I can't imagine the loss that you have experienced and the pain that you have been going through these last few weeks, but hopefully knowing that his music made an impact on people's lives and is loved throughout the world gives you some solace. His memory is going to live on.

So sorry got your loss! Your husband was so talented and touched my life musically. I heard of his passing at work and had to wait 8 hours until I could just cry and let the emotion of his loss out. May you have strength to get through this. ❤my heart is with you. ❤

@marioncvasquez I played his music today in the elementary school I work at while working on decorating a classroom door. Kids coming and going in the hall were hearing me listening to Soft Moon. Even the janitor walked by and asked who was I listening to. He lives on through his music and will be played anywhere and everywhere....even an elementary school. I'm sure Luis would love that. So glad and appreciative I got see him live and meet him and the band.

I'm sorry about the loss. This dude is a genius. He gave much more than he deserved in the end. Maybe not consciously, but he achieved something more. It was as if he had reached God during his lifetime. Genius.

Thank you for uploading this interview and not removing any part of it. He openly mentioned he felt a bit forced to do collabs with other people in other interviews, so it's nothing secret now. And it's beside the point anyway... We lost a brilliant musician, with an uncompromising vision. He put so much of himself in his music and his art... and he wasn't afraid to be honest about his struggles, how he saw the world, how he saw himself, etc... I will miss the Soft Moon a whole lot. It's hard to think there won't be any new album, anymore shows. It was comforting to get music regularly and to see the band live once every year or so... Sad world.

When I transcribed the interview for the publication that I wrote for, I definitely did leave some parts out, but I thought that, after he passed away, it would be fitting to show how he really felt and who he really was as an artist. Truly uncompromising.

Thank you for sharing this interview. Luis is incredibly honest in it and shows the unpleasant sides of working with record labels and the background of the music scene that is focused mainly on making money. Thanks to his modesty and authenticity, he stood out from others. You can see and hear in his work that what mattered was the music itself, not any image. The Soft Moon wasn't just another sugar-coated shell like many other bands. Their sounds were raw, original, absorbing and at the same time exposing the creator's innermost dilemmas.
Luis Your music will never die or be forgotten. You earned it, you fought for it and you deserved it.
    R.I.P. 🖤

Thank you for posting this. I met Luis two months before this interview when he was touring alone with Body of Errors. We had the chance to meet and connect and he was such a real and down to earth guy. Funny he talks about Model/Actriz because he was playing with them the last time I met him. He was a friend and he will live forever through his phenomenal work. ❤🔪

Thank you Luis for sharing your being with us. From that generation of 2010´s postpunk revival bands, The Soft Moon was undoubtedly the one that impacted me the most with the debut album, because didn't want to be another eighties pastiche trying to imitate the Joy Divison sound. Altought those influences are present, Luis really wanted to take this sound forward and push it to its limits. In some strange morbid way (just like he probably would liked) it makes me more comfotable after watching this interview that at least he died happy knowing he was true to himself. I´ll stick with the "I want it fxxxing live forever".

Omg I just learned about his transition. The point of last night which was Friday was to listen to The Soft Moons last 3 albums as my Friday night thing to do. I really like Wasting. I discovered The Soft Moon in 2013. What a gifted musician he is. He's from my city of Los Angeles. Also getting into Silent Servants music who also died with him and Silent Servants wife. Listening to his interviews , music , I kind of get it why I too would escape using drugs.

Such a lovely fella and a desperately sad loss to the world of music and art. F**king fentanyl. It can all be quite overwhelming trying to figure out how to minimise premature deaths as best we can. I had my time using drugs and I genuinely feel for those we have lost. They never set out for the end result, and too much finger pointing and victim blaming occurs. It usually comes from people who haven't been through it but live their lives in such sanctimonious fashion. People who pretend to have empathy, but behind it all they're really only a seething judgemental mess. Drug use is such an incredibly complex issue that is almost always linked to childhood trauma. Sorry just venting here. I came off another YT video filled with a load of self appointed judges and it just pissed me off.

I love this guy very much, his show in Athens Ga blew me away.
Apologies, after realizing that Luis has passed I can only send the hardest condolences a musician can send.
Please, everybody who's interesting in the world mind altering drugs. For the love of any god that will listen please vet the hell out of every person you meet. Nobody has your back like your closest, and nobody should have to die because of a filthy drug dealer slinging the dreaded F drug tightly packaged in a generally harmless recreational experience.
Rest in Peace Luis, I'm so happy I was able to share your amazing live show experience with my closest friends.

Thanks for posting this. Whilst I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore fan of Luis' work, I've listened to Soft Moon since Deeper (the only time I saw them live was on the tour supporting that record) and really appreciated the work he put into his music. I would sometimes have to be in a certain headspace to listen - 'torturous', as Luis puts it, is definitely the word when it comes to Soft Moon - but would still find it exhilarating and full of raw energy. I had never heard him give an interview before this, so thank you again. Last week's news was an utter shock, and a tragic loss.
