  • in this video we talk about how to stay warm in the outdoors. keeping warm is essential for you to have a good time outdoors all year round, the best way to handle the cold is by using many layers of clothing, that way you can adapt the amount of layers you use depending on what activities you do.
hope you enjoy this video, if there's something else you'd like me to talk about let me know!

Having a wool beanie and gloves are probably as important as a solid base layer.. I always forget them the first few weeks of winter til I freeze.

Totally agree! They are great to get that fine tuned adjustment and protection when both you and the weather around you are doing different activities.

There's one other ingredient worth mentioning I think: discipline. You have to have the discipline to indeed take of layers when you start moving and put it back on when you've stopped. The "start out a bit cold" just feels counter-intuitive as first, but it is very uncomfortable to have started walking for say 30minutes and then have to stop again to get the sweaty layers off. Maybe discipline is the wrong word, but practice perhaps?
So, yeah, thanks for the insights! Good to see you in a vid. Stay safe and healthy please!

I like a keb jacket and keb trousers plus echo shell jacket and trousers overtop. Another option is the keb touring full outfit both the matching top and bottom. A soft wool/rewool possibly long sleeve underneath. The anorak no. 8 is effective or the Fjallraven cape but too many layers feels uncomfortable so if you can't get warm than it is polar parka time or Canada Goose parka.

Great walk thru Ted! Liked that G-loft hoodie layer. Would be a nice complement to my Keb Jacket. Could that hoodie be packed down small and tidy? Have seen a similar jacket that folds down in a attached pocket and looks like a small pillow when downfolded. One layer i like myself is to have a Fjällräven long sleeved skirt. Their skirts are so versatile, buttons to fold up sleeves high so it works like a t-shirt. Buttons to open it up completely or partly, fold up collar if needed. Keep up the good work!

Ted! I keep coming back to many of your videos for their detail and info.
Any experience or input on the Bergtagen Stretch Half-Zip? I’m thinking it’s a slightly lighter layer than the Fleece (for use ski touring) but tough when a shell is a bit heavier duty and perhaps not as breathable?

    In addition, so surprised!!!!
Is it needed to wear a lot like that?
    How many degrees there ?
    In Japan, Tokyo
    basically in winter
    from 0~. -6 degree
I wear just one T shirt long sleeve,
    Then outer.
    That’s enough
to make me sweat after walk an hour.
My body become very very hot .
    And when in the train
    I take out all
and remain just stay only one TShirt.

Hey Ted! Or should I rather call you Ted "77 kg of pure muscle" Weirum? ;-D
I think the importance of layering needs to be repeated over and over because it's one of the essentials you need to understand when getting into the whole "hiking/outdoor thing". Good job on that one.
0C is actually 32F so your comment on "plus side of degrees" has some cracks in it ;-P
One question at the end: what is that white thingie hanging on the right side of expedition parka's hood?
    --- Michal

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hahaha, BEAST will also work! ;) I need to practice my Fahrenheit skills! The jacket was simply missing a similar piece on the left side for adjustment of the hood, I have fixed that now so you’ll see it on both sides in the review! :)

Ted, your Falt Guide Gloves, did they stretch a bit? Did you take them to fit a bit loose so to be able to wear the thinner gloves inside? Like a size 9 should fit me quite nicely, maybe I tad snug. So I’m wondering if I should get size 10 in order to fit a thinner liner glove inside. Or would the size 9 stretch a bit to eventually accommodate a liner glove? René
