Anytime people make a movie about a very small community I feel they should either show in the film that they should show in the film or put a disclaimer at the end that this is one person's experience. Like the women said in this interview, that doesn't change the validity of the person's experience or what they personally went through.
Unfortunately I know by experience that most of these people that leave and run to 'Footsteps' or other such groups, which are not much more than types of missionary groups, have further emotional and psychological issues that cause their problems that then cause them to use their backgrounds and religion as scapegoats. Easier to blame something else than to take responsibility for your own problems.
Satu mare does not mean st mary. Originally it was named after a noble called zotmar. Later on wnen romania took over the area, they changed the pronunciation to satu mare, which means "big village"
You guys are amazing!! So many things gentiles can't fathom you live!! Is it OK that I covet your lifestyle? May I envy your obvious joy together?? I can't help myself!! I love you both!!
I agree that no one should judge Judaism by the Netflix series. I agree that the series does not accurately present Torah Judaism. However, the Viglers' knowledge of Satmar is lacking. They should not talk about Satmar because they don't really know.
Judaism of whatever mode or type are similarly united in fussing up against sience and technology. This denyal is the greatest risk for loosing grounds and drifting into a parallel society of inferiority unemployment and poverty. The Rebbe himself did study technology. Take his lesson.
Judaism of whatever mode or type? Even if we are talking only about Torah observant Jews, there are many Orthodox Jews who are scientists or work with computers or technology. Perhaps you mean some Hasidic groups.
To say that Chabad is different because it is called Chabad is silly and misleading. Chabad is also called Chabad Lubavitch or simply Lubavitch. Chabad has become a well known name since the spread of Chabad Houses. Previously Lubavitch was more commonly used. The second Chabad Rebbe, Dovber Schneuri (1773-1827), moved from Lyady to Lyubavichi in 1813. The third Rebbe of Chabad, Menachem Mendel Schneersohn (1789-1866), and the fourth Rebbe, Shmuel Schneersohn (1834-1882) are buried in Lyubavichi. Lyubavichi (Russian: Любавичи; Belarusian: Любавічы, romanized: Lyubavichy; Yiddish: ליובאַװיטש, Lyubavitsh) is a rural locality (a village) in Rudnyansky District of Smolensk Oblast, Russia. Not all Haredi Jews have a positive view of their upbringing, even Chabad. "Footsteps is a not-for-profit organization based in New York City that provides educational, vocational, and social support to people who have left or want to leave a Haredi or Hasidic Jewish community in the United States. Footsteps was founded in December 2003, by Malkie Schwartz, a former Chabad Hasid from Crown Heights." (Wikipedia)
Mashiach didn't manifest himself yet and nobody's perfect so you can't hold each community responsible for some of your own bad life experiences. I have met very few unpleasant Habadniks, but I have found most of them genuine, helpful, very welcoming, full of love and care for their fellow humans, non Jews included. They don't proselytize to persuade you to be a Habad too and that's not bad from very religious people. I happened to do some voluntary work in one of their associations that operates in a hospital and it's a very fulfilling experience.

You two are great together! Thank you

There's a reason why we don't talk about other communities when we do not know.
