What a dramatic final. Both were close but Ding had the stronger self confidence in the final minutes. He looked like being completely isolated from the surrounding people and environment whereas Nepo seemed to become more and more nervous. The strength of Ding's menthal concentration was in my point of view the little advantage he had to become the champion. Ding literally needs a movie like wtf. He wasn't even meant to play in world championship 🤯
    - 1st Chinese chess champion
    - Played 30 classical games in a month to qualify for candidates since Karjakin was disqualified
    - Finished 2nd in candidates by beating Hikaru and only qualified to world championship because Magnus refused to defend his title
    - Down 1 point in the beginning of match, but equalizes it. Almost lost game 12 then made huge comeback, equalizing the match again
    - Ding's first win with black pieces against Ian was the last game, if it wasn't for his courage to go for rg6, the game would be draw
    - Beat Ian, 2nd ranking in the world, supported by his team with big names and have been previous world champion candidates. Does Ding even have a team backing him? idk Rapport maybe😂
    - Made it difficult to enter the big leagues since China doesn't support him much and Chinese visa is crap. Pandemic made it hard to leave the country

Ding, who failed to qualify for the match via the candidates tournament gets pushed in to make up the numbers. In my opinion, the standard of play was at a lower level overall than the previous few world championship match ups.
Magnus would beat both of these players heads up and likely beat them both if they played together against him.
    Anyway, congratulations to Ding!

Maybe Alekhine would've lost against Capablanca, if a rematch had ever happened. Maybe Kramnik would've lost against Kasparov, if the latter had been better prepared... Coulda, shoulda, woulda: didn't.
I would be thrilled to see Magnus take another shot at the throne, though, I can't deny that.

@@xxMADxxSCIENTISTxx if Kasparov didn't play Kramnik in 2000, his fans would be dead certain to this very day that "Kasparov would have beaten Kramnik heads up, drunk, blindfolded yadda yadda yadda" : )
and they could make a good case. Kasparov was almost 80 points higher rated (!), he had won like 6 world championships before, and he had perfect rights to claim the GOAT status (Kramnik - well, not anywhere near such position).
but here's the thing now: you can't lose a match if you don't play it. sure.
but if you do play it, you can lose : ) you can even lose unexpectedly. being a legend doesn't make anyone immune to losing and doesn't prevent upsets from happening.
PS. Carlsen's lifetime score against Ding is, i believe, +1 =9 -0. that's a 55% performance; clearly an edge, but hardly a win in a bag. i don't know where the notion comes from that he would eat Ding for breakfast. well, i mean, i kind of do know it - that's what being an infamous "fanboy" is about : )

How? I felt like Ian was better throughout the competititon. Ding was fortunate to get the crown.

When you waste so many chances you are not playing better than your opponent...actually the opposite Ding managed to convert each opportunities he had (only the one when he lost due to time he didn't)while Ian threw time and time again. That's how it is

    • @VanceHelw
      @VanceHelw ปีที่แล้ว +1

Ian played hastily and blundered during the most important moments, he had life long weaknesses that everyone pointed out and Ian knew but he never strive to fix it, he deserves to lose. Magnus has changed his playstyle over the years to compete with the best, If Ian want to be champ he needs to change.

Technically, Nepo may be better, but Ding has a stronger inner heart and better emotion control.

Meh. In any sports, when a team wins an important tournament, nobody expects to just scroll social media the day later and not be spoiled. Just don't go on TH-cam before watching the tiebreak imo.
Your fault. This isn't a tv show.
