I know DLC is confirmed for this game so hopefully they address issues like the lack of voice acting, more single player and online modes, music from the respective cartoons the characters are from and maybe items or something or something similar to assist trophy's/Pokeballs in this game so this game caters to both competitive and non competitive players, a few more unlockables like maybe old Nickelodeon bumpers and commercials maybe a few episodes of the cartoons in the game. I'm just throwing around ideas but I really want this game to become a series because there are more Nickelodeon characters I have a connection too compared to Nintendo and I'd hate for this series that has so much potential be cut short and never reach it because Nickelodeon gave Ludocity such a small budget.
I think if it had decent voice acting, and some more areas ironed out it would have been a day one pick up for me. As it stands I'm very interested but it will have to be a nice and cheeky sale for me to get this one. Maybe when more fighters are added. Its a shame we don't just have very basic voices in the game, such an odd thing to leave out really
I got around to trying Nickelodeon all star brawl and it's not a bad game but should have been so much more. You'd think Nickelodeon would have fronted the bill and got their repertoire of actors to voice their respective roles. The only voice in the game is the announcer. Impersonators would have been fine. Cartoon Network Punchtime Explosion had it's roster properly voiced. That's the game I like to compare it too. The roster could have had more characters, like Donatello and Raphael, Rocko, etc. But yea, good game but not great. Won't pay full price for it or at all. I can't be certain if they'll update the game with more characters in DLC but I would welcome it if that's the case. Still, there's a lot of missed opportunities.
So no single player, no voices, no items of any kind, no all star finishing moves, no alternate costumes or skins. Yeeesh, im definitely waiting for updates and dlc to be added, plus a price drop for sure
@@nintendo-relatedchannel5810 it’s an arcade mode that just… exist. Nothing to spruce it up so you just be playing battles you can just do in normal vs matches. A bonus matches, final boss, final stage or even an more rewarding Unlockable would have been more worth playing.
Here’s my five cents on what I think of the game. I just see this as a game that shows how low GameMill put the budget onto it. Even with the developers behind Slap City (Ludosity) behind it, I still feel that it could have been more unique rather than a game that sells on nostalgia and the Smashers alone. But if Ludosity does promise all the DLC stuff and updates including voice acting, maybe it could be better. Who knows, if a sequel was ever made (ie Kart Racers 2) with additional features and a higher budget, maybe it could be better!
I liked Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, but Nickelodeon All-Star Melee was a lot more quick and more competitively viable. Can't wait for Nickelodeon All-Star Ultimate though, they're bringing back everyone!
The modern equivalent of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up on PS2 and Wii, which was made by the Smash Brawl devs but had way less content and characters.
No voiceover work at all? That’s honestly really disappointing. I can’t imagine it would have been too hard to even sample voice clips from the shows. They didn’t need to get all new recordings.
Thank your for another good review. I saw a review of the game where it was praised for good combat but was scored a 4/10 for issues with the interface and other nitpicks, with the reviewer saying it would have scored higher on a console without Smash. I disagree with that sentiment because that review praised the actual gameplay much like you did.
If Super Smash Bros is coming to an end, potentially for the last time, I think we need to support the next best thing as much as we can. There are other platform fighters that do a pretty good job but they tend to fall short either in gameplay department, or they don't have any characters you have a connection with. Smash isn't where it is today just because of all of Sakurai's hard work alone. Smash is where it is because people really liked the core concept enough that they made it a best seller, and asked for more... again and again. People supported Smash. Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl is a low budget title that gets some of the most important parts right and the devs are hopeful that they can continue to support the game and make it grow into something better. And i'm hopeful it becomes a franchise. But it can only happen if people don't hem and haw that an experimental first step isn't on par with an established franchise with a massive budget entering it's twilight years.
Cool cool but like melee players are mostly just a small portion of the fanbase. A very niche faction dedicated to the competitive scene. A majority of fans aren't going to stick with one game forever.
Never realized how conservative the melee community really is. When you dedicate so much time to perfecting your playstyle and character taking a step away from that would be hard. Look how old street fighter 2 is and it still has a dedicated community. Although 4 and 5 were dogshit what are they going to move on to?
I never realised how important voice acting is in a fighter until this game. It's weirdly unsettling seeing these characters leap about and wail on each other in complete silence.
Loving this game. The amazing thing is the devs really care about us competitive players, unlike Nintendo which has worked very hard to make competitive ult and melee completely unviable. The game is super rough right now but I'm so excited about it's future.
That’s a double edge sword tho since anyone who is new or just wants to have fun with the game won’t get it. Also by fun I’m talking about items and wacky stages

The Reality is no matter how lacking in content this game is the online play is very good, which is one area that smash just is terrible at. That's the main selling point of the game
Sadly that's not the case, Smash Bros is made to appeal both competitive and casual side. Even with Smash 64 have the least amount of 1P content of all the games, Classic Mode is jammed packed with bonus rounds, special battles and a final boss. This becomes a problem when Platform Fighters that tries to sell to the Smash Fans but solely focus on the Competitive side alone.
@@LucarioShirona smash ultimate launched with the least amount of single player content since 64 and was still widely bought and highly praised. @@amadeus.7436 So they focused on the things people actually care about? That doesn't sound like a problem to me. If it was a full priced game sure it's a bit weak but for a AA budget game having competent online and good fundamental gameplay is all you can really ask for.

Classic Mode is made unique to every fighter, Mii Fighter creation, Spirit Battles that's basically Event Battles that cannot be completely replicated in Normal Matches. World of Light whole not the best Adventure Mode had some unique content at the end. There's still a lot meat in 1P content for Ultimate at launch.
@@LucarioShirona Yeah there is more than 64, but it's the less 1p content than even melee, but again nobody really cares because all casual players really give a shit about is roster and base gameplay. A casual smash fan will probably never even try any of the other modes in the game. So long as the base mechanics are good (nit in a competitive sense but more in a can someone play this without being frustrated sense) and the online is functional (especially right now lmao) people aren't gonna miss that extra shit. The people who won't like this aren't casuals they're actually hardcore players like you or me who invest shit tons of time into these games. This is fulfilling a specific niche ultimate didn't (good online) so it still has something of actual value, and that's what the guys who made it clearly focused on (and rightly so)
It becomes a problem, it sucks because I heard about how Ludosity understood the importance of have casual elements. They almost hit the right marks, but how bland Arcade Mode is enough for me to be not interested. It’s why games like Icons that only aim for the Competitive side fail to pick up.
If you're going to promise to only refer to Smash once, actually follow through with it. Immediately breaking that promise and thinking that saying "Oops, I broke the promise" makes it okay is just bad writing.
They definitely put alot of effort into the actual game while sacking alot of the other detals but I believe that there patching the hell out if this game so well see
I am a little skeptical about a big ass company pressing ctrl c and ctrl v on Super Smash Bros and slapping their nostalgia bait IP on it and calling it a day... especially since the character models don't look good and fighting doesn't look fluid
The devs that worked on this game also worked on Slap City. This game is definitely not a copy and paste. The airdashing, the rps smash attack system, the ability to smash attack in the air, and strafe are just a few things that differ it from smash.

This game is no Smash Bros. but it's ok for $20-$25. Cheap moves and tiny roster. Animation ok but not as polished as Smash. There is also a jump button if your coming from Smash Bros. but I believe you can change your button config.
Unsurprisingly it runs better online, on the Switch, than Smash Ultimate. Good on Ludosity, but pretty embarrassing for Smash. That's a very dead horse, though.
As much as I love this game, I feel like it alienates Casual Players. It would be fine for any other Smash Clone to do this, but this is a Nickelodeon game. A bunch of kids are gonna want to play as their favorite Nickelodeon character and have a fun time, but there will be almost nothing for them to do. There is almost no other modes besides some sport mini-games, there are no items, and if they ever go into an Online Match, they’ll almost always encounter a Sweaty TryHard. While I do love playing competitively in Smash and in this game, I know that my younger self would feel so alienated from this game, and others would feel so too. So hopefully Ludosity tries to make this game more Casual-Friendly to balance out the Competitivity.
It doesn’t even do that well imo. It has wave dashing but it feels less deep and refined than Ultimate or Melee in just about every way. The movement and animations just feel like the characters aren’t even tangible, it feels like they didn’t add easing to any of the animations so they don’t even move like you’d expect animated characters to animate, they move like robots. The soft "damn it" every time smash is referenced just makes this review better
Exactly what I was expecting of this game, a fine game in terms of gameplay but majorly lacking in polish. People overhyped this game way too much just to spite smash, but there was never a chance this game would be even close to as good as ultimate. A lot of this game seems so uninspired and the final product still looks like a demo to me. I thought the game had so much potential when announced, but I don’t think it was executed on very well which is just disappointing.
Itsa really fun game but yeah as of rn it's lacking stuff.
There is DLC coming which include stuff outside of stages and characters so hopefully we get cool stuff soon
@@amadeus.7436 no Rep himself said we will get more

Exactly, people hyped it way too much even though it looked like 'we have smash ultimate at home' kinda game to me from start.
@@rubyrogers8879 if its paid DLC, its not really that good since the game will still be overprice.
I'll get it when it's cheap. Looks fun but the roster could use some improvements. Needs more Angry Beavers, Rocko, Heffer, Eliza, etc.
I'd have rather had Really Really Big Man instead of Powered Toast Man
They're adding some of those. There was a big leak recently.
Cousin skeeter lol
This seems like a fun 30 minutes of nostalgia, but it doesn't seem to get CLOSE to smash bros
Yeah. I bought into the hype from everyone but it feels incredibly janky and unfinished. The animations and movement feel really low budget, which of course it is, but if you make your game so similar to smash you should expect to be compared to Smash in every way.
I mean, _nothing_ comes close to Smash. Sakurai really spoiled us haha. How many quality fighting games have over 80 well-balanced characters?
yeah, I hate to say this but Nickelodeon games tend to not do very well. They have small problems and glitchy/laggy quality with repetitive gameplay. Smash bros has way more uniqueness and more fun with so many challenges and options to choose from.
@@robofistsrevenge3288 He also set himself up for backlash, when the next Nintendo console is out and they can’t port ultimate (too many IP’s involved)
If you expected this to be at the quality level of smash then idk what to tell you
So it's like Power Rangers Battle for the Grid. Great foundation to build on if both the developers and the players commit to it. From what I've seen in the Hungrybox interview, the developers are very passionate about this game, so people need to buy and play it in order to show the support.
at the same time, the publisher is itself pretty big and its sad they didnt give more support to such a team... (again a 0 risk taken from publisher while we get an underwhlming product before we show support...)
I'm having blast with this game.

Nickelodeon fucked over this game big time i hope they fix it
I think if it had decent voice acting, and some more areas ironed out it would have been a day one pick up for me. As it stands I'm very interested but it will have to be a nice and cheeky sale for me to get this one. Maybe when more fighters are added. Its a shame we don't just have very basic voices in the game, such an odd thing to leave out really
How is that the devs "leaving it out"? You do realize this game is extremely low budget, right?
There's an arcade mode. Why do people keep saying there's no single player?
@@nintendo-relatedchannel5810 is there any reason to play it
@@nintendo-relatedchannel5810 it’s an arcade mode that just… exist. Nothing to spruce it up so you just be playing battles you can just do in normal vs matches. A bonus matches, final boss, final stage or even an more rewarding Unlockable would have been more worth playing.
Exactly what I thought. The price of $50 is just too much for how much is there.
@@owRekssjfjxjxuurrpqpqss It's still single player and people are saying there is no single player.
Seeing Jon play as Reptar was worth the watch for sure
Im ok with the game. i like it. its fun. it has some points of attention
I liked Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, but Nickelodeon All-Star Melee was a lot more quick and more competitively viable. Can't wait for Nickelodeon All-Star Ultimate though, they're bringing back everyone!
Had no idea that there were games in the series before the one being reviewed in this video.
From the perspective of a diehard competitive melee fan and as a fan of Ultimate, I've been playing the game today and it is actually a lot of fun.
And that might be nick’s downfall
Fantastic. All I care about is gameplay and it’s on sale for $5 right now. Thanks for the great advice!
The only good thing about this game is Toph being playable and having 3 spikes. But the game is bad. A 7 is way too generous.
Yup its garbage more like 4 out of 10 imo
@nintendolife I’m playing the game on my OLED and any input on the player one controller is not detected. Is there a fix?
The modern equivalent of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up on PS2 and Wii, which was made by the Smash Brawl devs but had way less content and characters.
Is there at least any music from these shows? That’s kind of half of the Smash Bros equation- it has to be a celebration of whatever theme it is.
The music is horrendous
This game is 14 bucks rn should I get it ??
Pass on this game. I'll relook at when it's $19.99 at walmart.
No voiceover work at all? That’s honestly really disappointing. I can’t imagine it would have been too hard to even sample voice clips from the shows. They didn’t need to get all new recordings.
But the devs would have to pay Nickeledeon money for the voice clips, which they already don't have much of
holding off for a bit because this week was LOADED but the mechanics do seem good. Excited to see this game grow though.
It's already dying.
@@Clinkety I mostly want it for local mp, but not surprised
Thank your for another good review. I saw a review of the game where it was praised for good combat but was scored a 4/10 for issues with the interface and other nitpicks, with the reviewer saying it would have scored higher on a console without Smash. I disagree with that sentiment because that review praised the actual gameplay much like you did.
Wait a minute. Does this game not have any "final smash" type attacks or some kind of finsher special/super move?
Is there a story mode? I must’ve missed that bit
From what I understood only a very basic arcade.
This game is $10 right now. Should I get it?
Bro, we're still playing Melee. If Smash Bros. came to an end we'll still be playing Smash Bros.
I like this game a lot actually! I’m a Nickelodeon kid so yea 😂
3:48 lol where did they get that .. from deviantart ?
So, I’m guessing this is loads better then PlayStation All-Stars 😂🤦🏻♂️
I never realised how important voice acting is in a fighter until this game. It's weirdly unsettling seeing these characters leap about and wail on each other in complete silence.
Loving this game. The amazing thing is the devs really care about us competitive players, unlike Nintendo which has worked very hard to make competitive ult and melee completely unviable. The game is super rough right now but I'm so excited about it's future.
That’s a double edge sword tho since anyone who is new or just wants to have fun with the game won’t get it. Also by fun I’m talking about items and wacky stages
@@zwillscoopchannel9689 you're 100% right, but the beauty is that not every game will be right for everyone. Hopefully all the games can coexist and people who prefer to be try hards can gravitate to the game that suits them, and casuals to theirs and etc.
Personally I don't enjoy those things in smash, but I 100% get why people do and I'm happy they are in the game for those people. I hope Nickelodeon does more for casuals for sure.
@@gregoryolenovich6440 oh ya I totally understand you but hope that I don’t sound to harsh. When you’re making a fighting game off of kids cartoons it shouldn’t be all fgc competitive. Not that those features shouldn’t be in the game but it shouldn’t be the main selling point. Especially if nick wants their target to be kids
@@zwillscoopchannel9689 don't worry no offense taken! In some ways I agree but in others I don't. If you look at their roster they're banking heavily on oldddd cartoons full of nostalgia. @@gregoryolenovich6440 ok fun talking with you I’ll probably get this game when it comes down in price not to mention I’m still on my back log. One last thing I do have 1 concern and that is the devs are making promises that they can’t keep. With the future of this game since at the end of the day nick has the last say. That may just be me since I’m looking at this from a Business perspective
It's at least better than the Cartoon Network one, right?
Nick's Gameplay, in spades. Sadly Cartoon Network seem to get their's right with content (though a bit of a mess) and voice.
I would really hope they'd add Timmy, Jimmy, and just more lead characters overall.
I gotta say the devs really screwed themselves over. I could’ve been stuck having this game at full price. But since the physical copies for preorders never showed up. I never got the game to open it up. Get your refunds guys and wait for a sale with this one. Everything’s a mess beyond in-game because physical copies are nowhere to be found. Many days later after release and you PREORDERED. XD
So I wasn't the only one huh...I actually asked the gamestop employee if I could swap my preorder for Eshop cards. I did that and bought my game through the Eshop instead.
I’m guessing the next instalment (depending on its reception) will have a higher budget and be even better

Vast majority of casual players only want to do standard smash multiplayer. This has good gameplay and good online which minus roster size is literally all people want from a smash game.
@@amadeus.7436 So they focused on the things people actually care about? That doesn't sound like a problem to me. If it was a full priced game sure it's a bit weak but for a AA budget game having competent online and good fundamental gameplay is all you can really ask for.
@@Gahoole While yes, but Smash Ultimate is also jammed pack with so much characters and variety of stage's. Plus even with lesser amount of 1P content at launch, how they handle it makes it worth while playing.
This is fulfilling a specific niche ultimate didn't (good online) so it still has something of actual value, and that's what the guys who made it clearly focused on (and rightly so)
This game looks like a heavily modded version of brawl filled with joke meme characters
That's exactly what it is 🤣
I wish the gameplay was more unique, rather than PANDERING to the Melee fanbase.
It becomes a problem, it sucks because I heard about how Ludosity understood the importance of have casual elements. They almost hit the right marks, but how bland Arcade Mode is enough for me to be not interested.
It’s why games like Icons that only aim for the Competitive side fail to pick up.
Man, I was wondering why I wasn't enjoying the gameplay pros have been streaming and...wow, yeah, it's exactly this. I'm so fucking sick of Melee.
If you're going to promise to only refer to Smash once, actually follow through with it. Immediately breaking that promise and thinking that saying "Oops, I broke the promise" makes it okay is just bad writing.
Switch version is fucked up . It is so behind on updates , Nintendo is trying to kill this game

sadly no
Are there any players online?
I am a little skeptical about a big ass company pressing ctrl c and ctrl v on Super Smash Bros and slapping their nostalgia bait IP on it and calling it a day... especially since the character models don't look good and fighting doesn't look fluid
The devs that worked on this game also worked on Slap City. This game is definitely not a copy and paste. The airdashing, the rps smash attack system, the ability to smash attack in the air, and strafe are just a few things that differ it from smash.

So it’s just the competive side of Smash and nothing else?
It doesn’t even do that well imo. It has wave dashing but it feels less deep and refined than Ultimate or Melee in just about every way. The movement and animations just feel like the characters aren’t even tangible, it feels like they didn’t add easing to any of the animations so they don’t even move like you’d expect animated characters to animate, they move like robots. Same with the jump weight and movement.
