  • This is a Gre. (genre in french or style in english) Roskopf pocket watch. Not original Roskopf, neither made by his descendants factories but made by another company at that time. Although, we call such watches as fakes it has deserved respect by his age. It was really exciting making it running again. I couldnt get into bed until it was ticking again :)
    This was my first hairspring repair experience. The spring was shaped to some extent with tweezers. Still not perfect and i will improve it after the full overhaul. It has brass holes instead of jeweled holes at the balance, hole jewels at the pallet and excape wheel pinions upper side and brass holees at the mainplate. Upper side holes were cleaned with toothpick and oiled. The others just oiled.

    Good repair to the hairspring, but what about the rest of the watch?
    It could do with a good clean and fresh lubrication.👍

    Nice job on a watch not many would have spent time on... I love the Pin Levers, they sound off with authority.

    I'm trying to learn how to repair old watches like these. But given that I have no one to teach me I'm having lots of trouble. How would one go about getting new springs, or repairing the winding spring

      I am using all sources possible. Books and videos from the web, consulting with real watchmakers. But the most important is experience and practice. For me as a beginenr, all problem is different. First, i am read everíthing about the possible repair methods, understand what and why to do and finally make attempts. Not all attempts are successful :)

      Im 14 and my father is an amateur watch maker one time he repaired a watch That was damaged in almost every way but since that watch was mine he did every thing he could to repair it for me. some watch makers I went to
      asked 100€ !! For just fault finding and cleaning ect... and after one year of ebay searching my dad found the right parts and fixed it
      at that time I was 9 and he didn't knew anything on how to even start fault finding so what ive learned from that is don't be afraid of repairing a watch just do it and learn from it and you will learn much more and quicker that reading and talking with other watchmakers .

    Very good indeed but balance staff seems to be worn. So will I be long before the age of that watch. Well done.

    you have to remove each part and really remove deep oxidation, it may required deep polished for each part or even use other technique...

      Thank You for the comment! The particular watch is now repaired and working fine. See my other videos of this watch. I have grinded new glasses for it, needed many type of repairs and some optical finish.

      the word roskopf is a word with negative connection, means its doens have any value, is shiitar...at least where iam living , it was a strange word so i think this comes from the watch world, very nice.

    • @szbalogh
      @szbalogh  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, You are right. The aim of Roskopf was to be able to make watches so low in value that everyone can buy them. After a while it was so successful that almost every company was manufacturing "Roskopf" watches for the poor.

    • @5naxalotl
      @5naxalotl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      easy to see how it became a word for worthless, but expert opinion seems to be that the roskopf was a remarkable achievement for the price. as i understand it, there were many far worse watches at the time. i'm reminded of "tin" meaning cheap in english, even though tin is a fairly expensive metal

    悪いと評価している人はかなり基本に忠実に勉強した人でしょうね。ヒゲ修理はコイルの中心から直すように勉強してきましたので外側からではムムとなるのでしょうね。いずれにしても振り角出てりゃどっちでもいいかな。

    I believe you have installed the hairspring upside down. The spring should be wound in the other direction.

      Надо обратной стороной положить спираль на мост баланса. И желательно тщательно почистить отполировать все детали механизма, с полной разборкой, сборкой, смазкой и регулировкой этих антикварных часов.

    Couldn’t pay me enough to fix that. God I feel so blessed as a watchmaker. I hardly ever have to fix anything other then rolex. It’s pretty much been my bread and butter. And I hardly ever fix the old ones either. Oldest I’ve ever had to fix was a Rolex cal 710. On occasion I get Rolex cal 1161, but I’m almost phasing that out of my business. Even the Rolex 2030 is so old now it’s not viable to repair. I fix 3135 after 3135, pretty much h every variant there is, 3130, 3136,3137,3155,3156,3157,3175,3185,3186,3187 and every 2135/2235 varian except the new 2236. On occasion I’m lucky enough to work on the new 3235 or it’s variants. I haven’t done a 3285 yet tho. Done all the Daytonas too, Valjoux 72a, 72b, 727 (all manual) The 4030 (zenith) the 4130 and it’s newer variants. Fixed about 2 or 3 4161 (ymII) and I have replaced a setting lever on a 9001(skydwleller) although I didn’t take it apart completely, just working under the dial is like 90% of the job. The train bridge and automatic are basically a 3235. Under the dial is basically the twilight zone. If I had to fix shit like this, I’d have no hair left.
