We need more of honest videos like this, ive seen many reviewers raves/hyped up perfumes that gifted or PR to them.and we ended up buying it and get disappointed. I dont have niche perfume store in my city.all of my niches are blind bought. Now i always sample before buying ,it cost me more but i ended up saving much more.Thank u Anna

I'm right there with you on Matiere Premiere's Santal Austral. I took home a sample of it and enjoyed it enough to purchase a full bottle. I applied 1 spray from the bottle on my skin and immediately got a headache and felt nauseous. Less than 30 minutes later, my fiancé said whatever perfume I sprayed in the master bedroom closet triggered a migraine for her. I've had good luck with most of Matiere Premiere's fragrances, but Santal Austral and Crystal Saffron are both unapologetically nuclear (in a bad way), long-lasting and incredibly sharp. They're sharp to the point where my nose is instantly too fatigued to bother picking out or appreciating any of the notes. On the off chance I do wear either of these, I go to a well-ventilated area, spray once on my chest and hope for the best.
oh my word yes, Crystal Saffron is even worse for me! 😩😩 I fully expected to love it due to saffron being one of my favorite notes, but it is unbearably sharp

I also love MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold. I’m really interested in trying Tonka Cola, hoping that the Mancera-Montale DNAis not very prominent in this one, and Fleur de Lait if I can even get a sample of it. I’m with you on the Masque Milano fragrances, and the other MFK ones that you mentioned.

You should try Levant by Ormonde Jayne if you haven’t. Such a pretty citrusy floral with an intoxicating musk.
I think you and I must have been in middle school at the same time bc sweet pea was everywhere at that time in my school, and whenever I see it in the scent profiles, I avoid it because I don't want to be reminded of going thru puberty in a gym locker room!!

I recently discovered Oud Satin Mood is great for layering as i did just that in a Neiman Marcus unintentionally
It's amazing how some perfumes smell completely different to different people. You describe BR40 as light and airy and cotton candy, and to me it is nothing but heavy piney woods - like PineSol floor cleaner! I use it as a room spray in the bathroom where my cat litter box is. My best friend loves BR540, it smells flowery and ultra feminine to her. P.S. Mugler Alien is one of my favorite scents!
I also bought a sample of Scherzo because of another youtuber's review. Boy did it disappoint! Your review of it was basically exactly what I experienced as well.

I agree so much about Instant Crush. I couldn't believe how different it is from BR540... and if I come across a YT video of someone saying these 2 are dupes - I am Unsubscribing immediately because I can not trust their judgment lol... wasting people's money like that is a SHAME.

I used to love Santal Austral, went through a few samples, bought the full bottle, and never wear it now. I think that the sillage is amazing. But on my skin up close the almond milk note is strange and the sandalwood is sharp. I love the quality of Matiere Premiere though. Falcon Leather is my favorite which was unexpected. I normally hate the smell of leather because it disturbs my senses. But FL just does it for me. 10/10 on a man in my opinion.

I can’t do the Montblanc, people love it but there is a note I can’t identify that just doesn’t work for me
So the way you describe Note Vanille Nectar is what I get from the OG Note Vanille in the new bottle. It’s super floral and mature with little to no warm cozy vanilla. The juice never darken like the old bottle and I swear they reformulated it when they put it in the new bottle. 😢
I had someone else comment this as well and after testing the Nectar, I think you may be right 😩💔 I'm gonna have to get a sample of the new OG and see how it compares with the cube version

I was wearing Lost Alice yesterday. It’s interesting for sure. I do get a slight carrot cake vibe but not sure I’d ever need more than my 8ml decant.
A full bottle is only 35ml, I love the entire presentation also so that’s why I ended up springing for it 😊

Hi Anne, there's a fragrance house called 'Day Three Fragrances'. I bought their samples pack and there was this one fragrance called Midnight Whisper that blew my mind, it gives me realistic Palo Santo vibes. I think you might enjoy those samples :)

I love Santal Austral; I don’t get the sour or sharp scents that you get. My problem is that it’s a skin scent on me. 😢
OMG, i bought MH scherzo blindly bc I was convinced I would love it. No one said it was so heavy on the oud. I hate it so hard, just cannot stand it. And I gave it a chance, let it stay in my collection for close to a year, but alas, we parted ways.

I think the difference you are smelling with Note Vanille is bc you have the original cube bottle. I have the reformulated one & there are def more florals and difference to how the previous one is described 😢

Hey Anne, your obsession with santal vanille got me hooked but I'm wondering if you think it could be worn in the summer too? I know people say it's kind of like crystal noir which used to be a great summer and fall scent for me. I unfortunately hate citrusy, aquatic and sun tan-y fragrances so summer is hard for me.
I'd say it's very versatile! I wear it practically year round but it's not something I pull for if it's 90°F or higher

Omg the way u feel about B&B Sweet Pea is the way I feel about Japanese Cherry Blossom 😂 and when I heard u bring up Oud Satin Mood I almost 💀 😂 I really really dislike that fragrance and do the same thing on Fragrantica if anything remotely compares to OSM I’m expeditiously steering clear! Love these vids and seeing/hearing other ppls perceptions of different fragrances! ❤
A couple of surprises here!!😆 I’ve been killing myself to get a sample of the Mui Mui one and had a feeling it was a whole lotta nothing special. Im just over it. If you are that impossible to get or find….imma movin on…I thought you’d love Lost Alice just because it’s an ambrette bomb on me. And my feelings exactly on Peche Cardinal. It’s a good simple peach….but oh my Lawd that price. ???? Nope. Nope and no. 😆

Oud satin mood was a blind buy fail.. I hated it. I find that I do not like rose and oud together at all. I always get a pickle note.

I love Encens Suave, but you are so right… it’s NOT for warm weather. It’s never cold where I live (not REALLY cold anyway), so I don’t know if I’d wear it much. I also love Santal Austral, but I have a zillion sandalwood perfumes. I don’t need another. Lol

I recently bought a decant of instant crush. It’s alright. It did remind me of something I’ve worn before. Not sure if it was BR540 I was thinking, I have a decant of that but have rarely worn that.

I love your reviews, you are my favourite fragrance inspiration on TH-cam. I was curious whether you had the chance to smell Gold Immortals or Musc Infini by Ex Nihilo. I know you have videos on Brompton Immortals, but that one is not available in my country. I think Gold immortals is like a all-year-long relative of that one, but still very different and I think you might like it 😊

I pretty much agree with all that you mentioned! Parisian Musc is absolutely beautiful. Smells refined, clean and fresh in a natural, almost grass-like kind of way, and great to be worn in high-heat as well (it's currently 38 degrees where I live!). I absolutely agree also with Amyris Femme. Smells incredibly dated to me. Like vintage perfume vibes, and I am NOT feeling it. Great reviews as usual!

I have BR540 and had Instant Crush, and sold it pretty quickly. It isn’t close to as good as BR540. BR540 is inviting and welcoming and is a “gentleman” (I’m a guy), instant crush is pushy and forceful.

Great video Anna. I love your work. As a subscriber and fan, I hope you view this comment in the constructive way it is intended. Your nose is off with Rose right now. The way you are describing these rose fragrances is incorrect. For a truly dark, dry rose (the way you seem to describe all rose fragrances), try Surge Lutens Fille de Berlin. This is potpourri dry dark gothic rose. Perfect rose fragrance for October. You will see that comparatively, Oud Satin Mood is a jammy sweet rose - not dry at all. Also, Scherzo is loved because it is a fresh rose with oud, which is so unusual. The fresh rose makes Scherzo a rose Oud that can be worn in Spring/Summer. Scherzo is a fresh rose, not at all dry or dark, actually dewy and pink. Just a few recommendations to help you with descriptions on rose fragrances: pure fresh rose - Paul Smith Rose, Jo Loves White Roses and Lemon. Great quality pink rose Penhaligons Elizabethian Rose. Fresh pink rose oud - Scherzo. Jammy sweet pink rose - Delina, Nina Ricci Extase Rose. Jammy Rose Oud - Oud Satin Mood. Red Rose - Jo Malone Red Roses. Red Rose Oud - Jo Malone Rose Oud. Dark dry rose - the one and only Fille de Berlin. I'd love to add some more dark dry roses to my collection. Rose potpourri dry. However, your reviews are unhelpful as you describe every rose as dark and dry even if it is fresh or Jammy or Velvet.
Appreciate the feedback! Since you're a lover of rose, you not only appreciate these scent profiles, but you detect these differences. I hate 90% of rose fragrances, so when it comes to my nose and my taste, many come off too dark, mature, etc. for me, although I have reviewed many that I perceive as fresh or jammy as well. I personally find nothing jammy or fresh within Scherzo or Oud Satin Mood, so I review them to my experience, but people pick up different things within fragrances, notes will jump out differently to them, I've seen many people reviewing fragrances I love, and I get an entirely different scent from what they describe! I can only review fragrances to my own subjective experience.
@AnneLauren please keep up the great work. I live in England. I attended a lecture by Roja Dove, and he said that there were only two flowers grown in England that were appropriate for perfume - may rose and lavender. I think for that reason, English houses: Miller Harris, Jo Malone, Floris, and Penhaligons, especially Penhaligons, do rose fragrances very well. Those houses also do amazing barber shop fougeres with lavender for men or unisex, especially Floris. Good luck with your fragrance and journalistic journey. I hope your rose period is a joyful discovery for you when it arrives. Perhaps body washes could help you ease into the scent? Not lotions - they last forever! But just a body wash. Philosophy Nude Rose, Korres Rose, and Floral Street Neon Rose are all good body washes.
To me Santal Austral smelled like those 5:1 coffees. I truly hated it.

Yay!! ❤️ I have! It's very unique, I can see why it is so loved. Honeyed exotic florals with a woody base. The honey has a little bit of an animalic vibe to it, giving it a carnal feel. Honey isn’t a note I gravitate towards in fragrances, but if you do, it may be a hit for you!

Torally agree on Scherzo, so overhyped. It has a subtle, but dirty, stomach churning dry down 🥴 The opening is not bad, but the 'airy' quality plays dissappearing acts on my skin which drives me mad 😤 which is probably a good thing, but annoyingly it lingers on in a weird way too 🤪 Can you tell I'm not a fan at all?! 😂🤣 Mont blanc signature was an instant NO, made me feel ill. I cannot get on board with any of the MFKs, have tried so many times!! Not a house for me 🙅♀️ I'm also trying to love Ormonde Jayne Levant, it is a bright summer scent, but something synthetic in it which makes me wince despite sooo many tries! 😣 Thx, this was great, more pls 🙏👍🥰xx

I bought a sample of Santal Austral and, like you, I am obsessed with sandalwood. I buy anything sandalwood dominant, that I can get my hands on. On me it doesn't smell sharp at all, it smells suuuuper creamy and amazing, but it's too masculine for me. Such a pity, because it's an unbelievable scent and I would love to wear it.
Amyrs femme smells like I dumped lemon juice on me. It smells super sharp and a little bit like pee, so I gave it to my mom and it's smells super nice on her, like it's supposed to smell haha

I recently got a big sample order from twisted lily and bought holidays and ooooohhh boyyyy it was a very strong dislike for me 💀💀💀 lol! It filled up the whole room with the sample card and i had to trash it bc it was bothering me so much. Havent tried it on skin and probably wont do so 😅

Thanks for telling the truth! 😬 This was fun to watch and get excited at the ones I also detest 😂 Scherzo gets so much hype, so I ordered a sample (thank goodness I didn’t blind buy!) and was so confused I literally tried a sample from another site assuming I got a dud. It smells SO bad on me. That oud is gross, like musty or BO like. Ick. I do NOT get the appeal. It’s not sexy or pretty to me. And Oud Satin Mood… I went to purchase something else and 2 salespeople were pushing OSM. They insisted it’s a magnet for compliments and the most beautiful scent. From my sniff it did not appeal to me at all. They insisted I try it on and they kept oohing and aahing, yet I hated it. I bought something else and they were kind enough to send me home with a small travel bottle because they were sure I’d love it. I don’t use it b/c I really think it smells utterly terrible. Extremely mature and just not nice smelling to me. I will say, it really lasts. Like after trying to wash it off, it lasts. Next day it’s still there lasts. So the perfume itself must be good. I do like Gentle Fluidity Gold and sadly that’s not as long lasting on me.
Awe man, if a perfume is good, there is no need to be pushy to make a sale! If anything, it just makes me want to leave 😆

I found scherzo very special .. for the Matière Première very nice description for the santal austral I both loved it and both found it very sharp and not enough softer ..but longevity come on crazy one .. the encens suave too vanilla for me otherwise the combo coffee and resinous is beautiful 👏🏼 ..

Lol your review for scherzo 😆mature patchouli was enough said for me. I like a lighter rose like in Delina la rosée. Also didn’t like my sample of micallef nectar either
