"Queen Mary of Teck" never existed. Mary was born HSH Princess Victoria Mary of Teck, as her father was the Duke of Teck. The "Teck" designation was dropped on Mary`s marriage to HRH Prince George, Duke of York. On her husband`s accession to the throne in 1910, George V asked Mary (his consort) to drop one of her official names, as he disliked double names. Mary chose to drop Victoria, thus becoming simply HM The Queen (or HM Queen Mary), the latter by which she was known throughout her widowhood.
