It's worth noting for the audio import and tempo matching, that some songs, especially older songs, often don't have a fixed tempo. Tempos can change for verse/chorus, but also, can be more groove based. Drummers can give the song some energy by speeding up gradually before a chorus etc. Or slowing down for a verse. That's how music was played before the music industry quantised, or locked everything to a grid in pro tools etc. So just be aware, if you set up a tempo at the start of a song, if it goes out of sync later it could be that the song tempo has actually changed or isn't consistant.

    • @LeviClay

If you watched the video rather than trying to appear smart, you’d see that you can drag the markers in the audio file to line up transients to account for increases and decreases in tempo…

@@LeviClay Isn't Marty's comment just complementing your demonstration of the tool ? As like, don't be surprised if your song's tempo fluctuates more than a few %, it's the band playing whit out a click and not GP8 being buggy. This comment makes you appear kind of passive-aggressive, which I'm sure you're not, so that's sad.

@@LeviClay I agree the tempo should stay the same, its not that the industry has quantised anything - its just that musicians generally play in time whichever era they are from. lining up the transiants and choosing the right note length works for me - also the time signature can change from bar to bar like in anything off "and justice for all" for example but the tempo will stay the same I think. Any way I am loving GP8 game changer for me a newbie to transcription trying to move away from dowloading tabs to learn songs. cheers.

Been using the audio import for a while now, massive feature, made teaching songs much more engaging and a big help for transcribing. One issue I've had is that is after importing a track, syncing it all up tempo wise once you start start transcribing, if a repeat marker is put in it doesn't compensate for that on the sync points and just adds extra bars which is annoying from the standpoint of making it a cohesive easy to read score, the only other option is to have no repeats 8 pages of tab

I wonder if you would do a short video on how you clearly capture your full GP8 screen while you superimpose your own image in a "movable window" over top of it. It's important to note that if an audio track is not perfectly consistent during repeated sections, such as verses or choruses, or if it includes a "go to coda" in the score, syncing the score with the audio throughout will be unfeasible. This is because a performer may vary the timing slightly on repeated song sections. Therefore, even if the first verse is perfectly synced, subsequent repetitions may fall out of sync. A workaround is to create a new GP8 file without any repeats or "go to coda" sections in the score. The song should be written out completely from start to finish in an uninterrupted score. This approach may extend a 3-page score to 6 or 7 pages due to the absence of repeats. However, this method ensures that once completed, the score remains in sync throughout the performance, regardless of repeated sections.
As of June 2024, GP8 does not offer the feature to mark audio sections according to the number of times they are played in the score. It would be beneficial if future updates included this feature. Until then, for songs with timing variations in repeated sections, the score must be laid out in a single, continuous sequence without repeats. You are welcome. 😋

I remember back in the mid 90's when I used to go out and buy tab books, it was sooo cool, being able to learn how to play your favourite songs, or in some cases, at least *see* how they're supposed to be played 😂 Then later with software like GP, I transfered several from the books and I could actually play them back. I loved doing that, staying up all night. We have come far with GP8!
Just a question, to a pro: A lot of times I remember these "professional" tab books being quite off. Do you know what the deal is with that? I understand typos can happen, but some were pretty bad. Also with some of the finger positioning like you would never play it that way, And for a "pro" to type it out like that, makes no sense to me.

yes, and they're all trash. Bring able to work out the difference between vocals and drums? bravo. But software can't listen to three guitars playing and discern which guitar is which. Why? Because computers don't LISTEN.
But I'll tell you what... you stick to your free software, I'll stay over her and keep making good money doing what I do. All these silly people out here paying me 1000s a month when you can just do it for free online eh? ffs.

Makes transcribing with ADHD easier when you don’t have to switch back and forth to Transcribe 😂 Just wish I could filter as well as Transcribe, but baby steps.
Edit: just found something I wish it could do… add multiple audio files. I transcribe worship tunes with multiple layers of the same instrument and kind of wished I could flip between them as I go. Ah well, nothing’s perfect.

This is truly insane!! Let me explain.....I recently came across a TH-cam video of Ross Campbell- "This Cliché Blues Lick Is Amazing" and really liked it, so I started trying to transcribe it to paper. After awhile it occurred to me that it would be great to look for application that I could use for transcribing. So, I dug around and tried a few including Musescore and GuitarPro. I signed up for the trial of GuitarPro and started away transcribing this lick. Since it was my first shot with the program, it took awhile, as I was going back and forth between the video and the program. Before I finished the transcription, I decided to purchase GuitarPro. When I opened it up, it automatically erased the all the work I'd done, because I hadn't saved it. Oh well, back to work. Starting up again, I thought, "I wonder if there's a way to import and audio file into GuitarPro so I could work within the program without going back and forth to the video. That's when I came across this tutorial. Cool! And as I was watching it, I couldn't believe my ears that the audio file you chose to work with was exactly the same file that started my search for a transcribing program in the beginning. What are the chances of that???? One-in-a-million? I nearly fell out of my chair.
Thanks for the tutorial, and also for saving me tons of time because your transcription is far more accurate than mine would have been!! I've subscribed, and I will be looking for a Patreon donation or something for all your help!
