    Great video series! What were the typical set ups on these Jeeps? Are they generally stock suspension, or lifted? Were they all running larger (34"+) M/T's or A/T's?
    Was that a stock Cherokee on the Lower Devil Creek crossing (Part 10, 28:00 mark)?

      @Ricks4WD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It was a real mix of Jeeps. Mine was on 34" AT's with only 1.5" lift, open diffs. Typical was 35's and a couple inches of lift. But the we had a few on 37's and 40's and heavily modified. That was a stock Grand Cherokee, only had AT tires. He bypassed the obstacles on Fincastle as well as one other rutted out section, but otherwise did almost the entire 100 miles of the main loop with us. 👍😎

      @@Ricks4WD thanks for the extra details! I've been asked to join a group in the coming weeks and I was curious if my 22 Sierra 1500 would be up to the challenge, less the more difficult terrain.
      I have a 2" lift (may level the front, in addition, for an extra 1.5" clearance at the lower valence), 32.5" A/T's (may move up to 34 M/T's before the trip). Not ideal for off-road trips, but not looking to trade out for a Jeep at this time either. 🤷

      @@johnspurrier0001 yeah, I think that will do most of the loop. We saw a couple of full-sizes along the way when we were there.

    Great video! Mountain springs road has gotten a lot worse from 23 months ago when we ran it in a bone stock TJ on 29" AT tires! How long ago was this and can you describe some of the smaller vehicles that ran the trails and how they did? Wondering how you did overall and what mods you have done and how did that Grand Cherokee do and how is it set up? Heading down with a TJ on 33" muds and a JLU sport on 35's. Nice history lesson also, we liked it.

      Hey Brian, yeah, Mountain Springs was pretty rough! It's very interesting to hear it was in such better condition just a couple of years ago. We just went through there only a couple of weeks ago. Besides the Grand Cherokee, my JK was the Jeep with the lowest clearance. I am on 34" BFG KO2's and only about 1.25 inches of lift over stock, but I also have a lot of skid plates. My diffs are open both front and rear. I'd say with a TJ on 33's you'll be fine, but 33's would be the mimimum for this one currently as the ruts are getting deep. The Grand Cherokee did not go with us through Mountain Springs or Old Fincastle, and met us on the other side of those trails--it did the whole rest of the loop though. I don't know the exact setup of the GC but it has some more offroad worthy tires and the spare is moved to the back on it. It's not that much different clearance wise over stock, but the driver is very experienced coming from a TJ. Everyone else in the convoy had 35" or larger tires and 2" or larger lift. We only had to pull the winch cable 2 times, both on the rocks at Old Fincastle, to pull my Jeep over the big rock and another that got hung up on the rear diff. We also had to snatch one JK out of that mudhole on Mountain Springs, but that was avoidable, there is a go-around.

    Great series! Looking to do this in a few weeks. What did you film this with that has the compass heading ect or is that overlays you did when editing?

    • @Ricks4WD
      @Ricks4WD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! You'll have a great time on the DBBB. The overlays on the dash view in the series, are done with my GoPro Hero 7 Black. You can add these with any GoPro with GPS enabled. It stores the telemetry in the video file while recording--then in post-processing I render the data into the video with the GoPro Quik PC program. There's another program called Dashware that will render the data into the video, also.
