  • This Beast of a speaker is the brain child of Troels Gravesen of Denmark.
    If you are not familiar with his work... go straight to his website www.troelsgravesen.dk/
    This project took me ages to build and as the time went by I noticed that I just enjoy to take care of all the small details and problems that popped up.
    Building your own speakers means you don't have to compromise.... I was not obliged to take short cuts or haste my work flow... and every bits and bolt can be bought and manipulate at will. In this mad mad world of HIFI where cables cost in the thousands the costs of producing such a speaker are meaningless. Yet again All thanks to very talented people sharing their knowledge.
    The NEXT4 weighs 110 Kilo... Partly due to the Tank Wood. if you are interested to learn more please check
    www.lessloss.com/page.html?id=80
    If you liked this Video feel free to share and comment. It is definitely not the last speaker I'll make... I'm hooked!

    Hi, Very interesting to watching your construction of these cabinets, I have been looking around the universe for different ideas, I noticed you have made quite a few different types of loudspeaker cabinets, And noticed that you are using drive units made by Seas from Denmark .
    I enjoyed the piece of music that you were playing in the territorial which sounds very nice coming out of my transmission line loudspeaker cabinets that I built 40 years ago, And I am looking at changing the drive units as the Tweeter has packed up on one of them, And I was recommended by a company over in the Uk to use the drive unit made Seas, What is your opinion of them, I am not very good at electronics but I am very good at making work as this was part of my trade a few years ago, I’ve just realised that this was downloaded to TH-cam a year ago. So not sure whether you will pick this up or not, Great territorial I’ve just been looking at some other ones of yours as well. Phil from the moulin France.

    • @noamgellerdiy
      @noamgellerdiy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Phil, good that you wrote.
      Seas from Norway makes wonderful drivers. They have a line for every budget. The drivers I am using in this project are called Seas Nextel. Those are paper coated drivers... in my opinion, those are some of the best drivers one can buy. But that's really a matter of taste. If you'll search in youtube for "Bifrost-Scan speak vs Seas" you'll find an interesting video comparing the sound signature of both companies. Be aware though that changing drivers in an existing loudspeaker will aquire a new crossover and a very talented speaker designer with special equipment... have fun and good luck!

    • @philvale5724
      @philvale5724 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@noamgellerdiy Hi Noam , thank you for your reply and the info, I will have a look 👀 read about them as you say I will probably have to get somebody to build a new crossover unit for me, My problem will probably be trying to find somebody and obviously the cost of the crossover unit,
      About 40 years ago I had a colleague who was good in electronics I brought him a special microphone as mother bits and pieces and he built the crossover unit after two or three weeks of testing late at night one 2 o’clock in the morning when his children and everybody else has gone to bed,
      Anyway thank you for your help I will have a look at scan speak vs seas.

No need for subs.... and no need for expensive high watt gear for the upper module since you can biamp your speaker either with SET amp ( tubes) or First Watt J2 ( Nelson pass) with 95db the TL2 will rock also with 20watt.

    That's not CLD. This is just a vibration isolator. CLD principle works by *bending a wall* made of sandwich material. By your logic you can call a shock absorber in a mountain bike a CLD. Makes no sense.

    • @noamgellerdiy
      @noamgellerdiy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Constrained layer damping (CLD) structures, which are one of the composite structures with a softer viscoelastic material (VEM) layer sandwiched between a base layer and a relatively stiffer constraining layer, are widely used in engineering applications for reducing vibration and noise radiation.
      As I understand magico mpods are built on exactly same principle, just different materials. Btw I’m a juggler too.

    • @rhalfik
      @rhalfik 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@noamgellerdiy Yeah, we talked on fb. We meet again, lol How are you doing?
      I see now you're referring to Magico's marketing material. I'm sorry, but it's just jabber, they're... stretching it :)
      If you look at a bicycle fork, it has elastomer piece sandwiched between stiff lower and upper fork parts :) It doesn't make it CLD yet, just a damper. CLD sandwich dampens when a panel is bent. It dampens panel resonance which comes from panel's own elasticity. The viscous layer stretches under shear force and then slows down the panel on it's way back effectively damping the panel resonance. When you support a box on viscoelastic feet you're not utilising this principle. You're just isolating vibrations, because there are no significant sheer forces on a single point support. You might as well put it on springs covered in damping grease - same thing. The thing doesn't transfer the vibration to the floor, but it doesn't damp it either. It's a vibroisolator. The same stuff is used on industrial machines, just a bit bigger.
      Magico calls it as they do, because it's a buzzword on the internet, I think.
