"This Raven has been friendly with me for the past three years, he will take food out of my hand and occasionally will dig a hole in the dirt of the flower box and bury it."

I think so too. Its freezing out there. Theres no water around. It tries to mimic sound of water cause its universal language to mimic the sound of things.

I live on the shores of Lake Michigan and am amazed at how beautiful the seagulls actually are. If people would just stop and actually look at these animals they would be amazed as well !! This raven is beautiful !!

I raised a Raven this summer. He chose to stay around and is never caged. Learning to say hello. Barks like my dogs. So well that he fooled them into thinking a stray had come around. Blessed to have him in our lives.

Da Birdy That's not true, ostriches are an example of it, sometimes they develop so much attraction towards a human that they lose interest in their own specie, you can search to verified that information (there are videos of this) . Also some parrot owners had reported that they parrot tried to mate with them over another parrot. I am not sure if there are studies over this but in parrot groups it's something that tend to happen. It's not rare, some birds have deep connections with their owner to the point they choose them as a mates (and you know they only have one mate for life) , they even do mating rituals for them or try to masturbate with them (there are also videos of this)

Daniel ? I had a wonderful experience with a young raven, who was being nursed to health in wild bird centre in Ottawa. For example he preferred to play than eat. While crows were opening their beaks in expectation of food, the raven was busy undoing my shoe laces, then unbuttoning my lab coat or hiding toys that I brought him. He made holes in the wall and then stuck the toy inside and covered with straw. And how he enjoyed cold baths in the middle of hot summer! He insisted of staying in the cold water in a small basin even when he started to shiver, I couldn't get him out. Pity that they had to kill him after he figured out how to open the door and "freed" the crows and himself to the kitchen, where they found all the food.
I`m disgusted they HAD to kill him just because he was the smart one.
When it boils down to it people aren't very civilized which is why I`m leaving everyone behind to go live off the land in around 2 years.

I’m surprised it’s even legal to kill a bird over something like that in Canada of all places. That is so inhumane. Oh, this is lovely! The raven is trying to imitate his laughter! I don't blame him/her, the man has such a wonderful laugh, and it looks like the raven is really enjoying his company. They're such great mimics. One day, he's going to come out to feed the raven and the raven's going to say hello or something of the sort.

It appears the bird was raised by you, and is a way to beg "daddy" for food. Ive spent some time in US national forrests and ive heard ravens do this clucking sounds. Squeaky clucking. Really strange song like for close communication but it is still pretty loud.

Lived with one a long time, studied them longer -- It's not imitating water or asking for water - that's a friendly / love sound among family and very close social bonds of the same 'tribe.' We don't know exactly what it conveys but folks studying / living with / extensively observing corvids (these guys!) suggest it is sentiment along the lines of: "Hi friend, hi family, love you, hello you, yes friend, yes family..." et cetera. It is not said to strangers (other crow groups) and has been observed in nests and meeting areas with plenty of immediate / close local water, and it doesn't cause other crows to leave for that water and drink. I think this one really likes and/or loves him :)

I've seen a raven imitate a crane twice now, an hour ago when I took my dogs for a walk I was able to see the bird well enough to say for sure that it was indeed a raven. and then I saw two others (possibly 3 because there was a different sound, one was making a high pitched sound, one a normal pitched sound but with short intervals, and then a third lower pitched) which made more regular noises. I was first worried that there's a carcass nearby but found out it's actually the start of their mating season now

THE BIRD IS ASKING FOR FOOD! I USED TO HAVE A BIRD PECK AT MY WINDOW MOST MORNINGS AT 7:00 A.M.
I have steller jays that do that as well. When the food runs out they peck the actual window very loudly and wake me up for food. If i try to sleep in they all "scold me" until i get up and feed them. Sometimes it occurs to me that i'm literally paying for company, but they are just so funny to watch i can't help but buy them food. Any bird with a mohawk is all right by me! Of course sometimes i get this giant woodpecker who looks like the plague doctor. He just sits there and stares at me without eating. i admit it's a little unnerving.
