  • It is a bold watch from a new Norwegian microbrand. The specs/details/finish/size/and movement are all excellent for the retail price. I find it an exciting release with a few negative elements. What do you think?

    Cool design. Very clean with elements that integrate well. The dials have an almost organic look like a growing crystal. Love the blue myself, but when I first saw that red dial, I thought of lava so fooled into thinking this is made in Icelsnd. Had no idea Norway had an active volcano as part of its territory. There you go Bruce, you've given some of us a lesson in volcanology .

    Wow… Dial draws you in. I love the absence of texts on the dial it almost seems like you’re looking at a piece of artwork. Little tweaks to the movement, show attention to detail. I’ve never really noticed rotor, wobbler noise on single direction. Movements, when it comes to a dive watch… At least not enough to be a big negative. Only drawback, and I consider it a fairly big one is that class… That’s a dress watch clasp… Thanks Bruce. Great review!

    The dials look great, no date is a welcome thing on a sports watch, but without any brand heritage or proven track record, the pricing is very ambitious...as much as the Longines Master Collection, over twice the price of a Tissot PRX, or almost twice as much as a CW C63 Sealander!

      I think the workmanship of this watch including the dial work, hands, and case finishing warrants a higher price tag than the Tissot.

    Got mine delivered yesterday, New Years Eve. Dial is STUNNING. Finish is also very well done. Not the biggest fan of butterfly clasps in general, but this one works smoothly. Glad I picked it up. The red dial is Grand Seiko like quality.

    This release knocks me out. There’s so much to like starting with the mesmerizing, clean 3-D red dial, integrated bracelet and case size. I appreciate the thoroughness of the review including note of the watch’s few drawbacks. “Noisy” rotor is of course, subjective. My vintage Rado Cobra also makes some sounds but I can’t say I ever notice beyond the obvious moments of actively listening. Fratello as a release partner makes me very comfortable investing in such a new micro brand. I can’t think of a similar watch in the sub-$2k US price range with such a compelling design.

    Great video Bruce for a great looking watch collection, I like their case and bracelet sleek design and definitely that Red dial version (Fratello's version) will be the hit. I've followed the brand since they successfully launched their OPPHAV, and they have really stepped up their game, with this one. It would have been really nice for them to have their limited version being numbered. Their blue dial kind of strikes me with some resemblance to the Zelos Aurora Teal dial. Wishing this watch collection and Straum a great success.

    This watch is a stunner and that dial is mesmerising! There is a further negative that I think should have been mentioned. And that is due to the nature of the integrated bracelet it may not work well if you have a wrist size of less than 6.50”. If that wasn’t an issue I would have bought the watch already but as it is, can’t spend that money on a bracelet that won’t suit my 6.25” wrist

    I own this watch and can't be happier. I am even considering buying another one. The above average finishing is subjective term. Yes it is not rolex or Vacheron level of finishing but case and bracelet for me are tudor/omega level easily. I own other micro brands like Monta, christopher ward and direnzo, this is equal/ahead of them in terms of case and bracelet finishing.
    Movement is not a normal selita, it is better in my opinion. Dial is grand seiko level or even better.

    Bruce, the Tissot PRX, the new white with blue dials (if its dials) chronograph comes to mind and i cannot see me buying this over that Tissot, its a nice watch, but they are a bit greedy for what it is, maybe they were trying to indulge in that IWC over-pricing since their bracelet looks similar, IWC is going the wring direction, pricewise, straum shouldnt copy everything!

    • @BruceWilliams
      @BruceWilliams  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree that the PRX chrono is the top dog under 2k at the moment. Which is one of the reasons why I said this Straum is top 3. It's so well done. Though I don't agree with you at all that it is overpriced, nor an homage to an IWC. I can't think of a similar watch with this level of finish, details, bracelet, or movement for close to under 2k.
