Hey, there were a few key things missed in this video I thought I could shed some light on. 1) The black box with the blue light in the 500 series rack is a Shadow Hills Mono Optograph compressor (very hard to find, 2.4k) which Max Lord said was his favorite piece of outboard gear. 2) The u87 a.i he used was modded to be a tube mic. Max Lord (juices engineer) loves the u67 (a tube mic) but a vintage one is around 14k and the reissue is 7.5k,,, so what he did instead was purchase the innertube mod kit (2k-ish) and buy a vintage Siemmens tube (price idk) and modified it himself to be a tube mic. 3) He also modded the cl1b by swapping out the tubes for vintage as well. His reasoning was he didn't want to have the same exact sound as everyone else using identical "industry standard" gear. Love what you're doing, God Bless edit... if your wondering the chains are u87 > gml2032 > cl1b OR u87> bae1073d>Shadow Hills Mono Opto.. I know for a fact the song "girl of my dreams" was recorded using the gml chain (sugas vocals too).
Genre: I currently do mostly R&B vocals, from whisper quiet to belting. Current vocal chain is: SM7B (low pass filter ON and mid bump ON) without the windscreen, using a pop filter + Triton Fethead into the SSL2+ with the 4K filter on, then going into the UAD Neve 1073 plugin with the Male Clarity preset. I'm currently eyeing the Sony C-80, I think that with things like pultec, or acustica audio coral baxter I could pull the highs into something like a C-800G/Telefunken C12/Manley Reference. I love my current chain but I wish I could get more high end without having to do so much post-processing. I also would like to eventually pair the Sony C-80 with a 1073 heritage preamp clone. I have actually used the Manley + Neve1073 + TubeTechCL1B and Sony C100 + Neve 1073 + Distressor and I like those as well. I'm just looking for something that will sound somewhat finished once I get it recorded. Any tips, anyone?
Nice. I love the SM7B. The Sony C-80 is definitely a heavy hitter. I dropped the video for the C-80 last week and I was seriously surprised at how great it sounded. Definitely a great move. That's the beauty of recording a great quality signal, It can relieve the stress of possible heavy post-processing unless you are doing something stylistic you know. I think the upgrades that you are eye'ing are perfect. Just invest in one piece at time. It spend 10 years investing piece by piece. I got the studio desk and UAD satellite duo first in 2012. I hope this helps.

My setup is the shure sm7b going into a cloud lifter(brings the mic up a bunch of db) going into a ua volt1 for my audio interface going into MacBook Pro 💪🏽🚀

my current chain is a lauten eden to a chandler limited mic cassette out to a purple audio mc77 back to the tg1 opto built into the mic cassette then out to an rme adi2profs
I use a lauten eden to heritage audio 73eq elite to warm audio buss compressor to klark teknik kt2a its a pretty flavored chain but I find with the gentle setting on the lauten it's hard to make it sound bad even if I do lol

My Vocal chain is the TLM170r -> MPA ART PRO -> Apollo x I was curious I want to get the 1073 but is the 1073LB just as good as the 1073SPX I know EQ plays a part but you can always post edit

I record over trap beats inspired by zaytoven. I’m inspired to produce vocals like Future and Gucci Mane mostly. Neuman TLM 103 Apollo Twin Interface UAD Console/Pro Tools UA 610-B Pre-Amplifier Pultec EQP-1A Legacy Waves RVOX (Primarily for its gate) Tube-Tech CL1B Auto Tune EFX Waves Marroquin Reverb Waves H Delay I’ve found I don’t prefer much auto tune on my voice. So I use auto tune sparingly, my retune speed is usually fairly low and I use the humanize feature cranked at about 50%. I’m actually interested in using the SSL Native X Saturator in conjunction with it and may even replace Autotune with it all together if it compliments my voice the way I think it will. I’ll be swapping the Pultec EQ for the Fab Filter Q3. I’m saving up for the Neve 1073 to swap the UA610B for in the long run and I think that will complete my vocal chain for a while. I’m open to recommendations if anyone has any
