He isn't acknowledging Luffy, more like he is concerned about his allies, basically the only reason Luffy and Buggy became emperor is because they have a large crew. Luffy only considers his own crew to be his crew but it doesnt change the fact he has the Grand Fleet backing him whilst Buggy has the prisoners and two warlords. This is why Law and Kid didn't become a Yonko, they lack a large crew/fleet.

He did say that a simple skirmish can lead to an all out war, and with Luffy's 5600 men Grand Fleet waiting for his call, and the territories under his name, Akainu is smart enough to try to avoid war as much as possible. He might be antagonistic to all pirates, but he has strong belief in justice.

At age 17 defeated two warlords, the CP9 and also he broke Enies Lobby and Impel Down from inside out, all these feats without mastering Haki or even his devil fruit. He was already a larger than life threat to the govt. It was crystal clear without even using any observation haki that he will be the biggest threat to the world govt. Now at age 19, he has mastered all 3 types of Haki and yet to master his devil fruit's true power. Akainu knows it, it's even above his paygrade let alone a CP0 agent, Saturn san please help!!!

Akainu now truly feels like he understands the weight behind the title "Fleet Admiral". When he was just a Admiral, he seemed more like a weapon for carrying out his values. Luffy isn't just an emperor but the youngest one ever.. all those One piece legends were literally nobodies when they were Luffy's age.. but my man here already fought through a major war, triggered and won a few civil wars, gathered allies with many kingdoms and races, has his own fleet even though he doesn't acknowledge it.. all the while all he had to do to stand out was tell people his granddad is a marine hero or that his dad is the government's no.1 enemy..
I wouldn't really say nobodies. Whitebeard's backstory was limited of what we know. Marshall D. Teach was already has a big name under Whitebeard's fleet, while Shanks not only was the member of the Roger Pirates, but also already established a crew before he even met Luffy. And since back then Shanks was already known as a pirate, he definetly wasn't. Both Big Mom and Kaido were members of the Rocks Pirates, who were famous of colliding with Roger and Garp in their prime. And Buggy... he was already famous as the warlord. Luffy after all wasn't also a nobody before being a Yonko, yet his journey as the liberator of Kingdoms and the one who declared war on WG, he was already a big name before even learning Haki. Of course Luffy being the youngest ever Yonko is impressive, but calling them nobodies would the same thing as saying Julius Caeser was a nobody, before he became the first emperor.

It's funny how not to long ago people were calling him and his crew "rookie pirates". Even tho luffy has been running circles around these big named pirates. @Phantom24-w3c Wano is the best. Kaido vs luffy is the best fight(s) in the series. Watching luffy finally be in the big leagues, watching him grow in adapt to fight this force of nature, and the contrast between kaido relying on raw power and luffy and the samurai relying on skill.
This is definitely a new pace for Luffy. Before, the Marines would pounce on him without a 2nd thought and with everything they have on hand. But now that he’s officially a Yonko, they can’t lay a finger on him without upper brass approval

Marine ain't afraid of the war against SHs but the possible backup that might show up. Going up against SHs fleet, RA, Rayleigh, Garp etc isn't gonna be easy compared to WBs fleet.
WB was only easy because they cheated as well was old,sick had a traitor kill one of their top members and captured another as a hostage so could not go all out had to have another ally turn traitor to injure whitebeard to weaken him even more when sick and old stopping him using kings haki for not being able to focus then had pirate allies as well so not just fight against wg/marines

Crazy to see Akinu switch gears on fighting Luffy when he almost killed him at Marineford and was incredibly persistent in trying, but now that he's an Emperor and has Gear 5, he says to not engage with him at all
Back then Luffy was within his reach, and he was certain he could kill Luffy before he grew to be able to actually threaten the world government's strongest fighters. Now Luffy has been acknowledged as an emperor, he is nowhere near where Akainu is (and Akainu can't just leave since he is now the fleet admiral) and he has no confidence in the ability of CP-0 to deal with Luffy considering that two of them already fought him and Zoro two years ago and they lost. All he can do is wait for Kizaru to show up and hope that he manages to kill Luffy this time.
Being Fleet Admiral is not like what Sakazuki imagined, I bet sometimes he asks himself why he wanted the job, everything is being shaken up and he can't just up and go do something about it himself.
Probably the worst part of his promotion, he no longer has the freedom to act leave marine headquarters to face threats directly. It seems almost as though the higher up one goes to the top levels of the organization, the more their ability to move about freely is limited.
Akainu has NEVER ever underrestimated Luffy's power since Marineford. He's always aknowledged Luffy's influence amongst the others and his capability of making allies. Say whatever you want about Akainu, but he's one the most consistent marines Admiral so far.
Might also be the reason why he targeted Luffy first rather than Ace back in the Marineford Arc. Between those two, Luffy is the biggest threat to their world because of his potential. He probably attacked Luffy first to elliminate that threat. Unfortunately, Ace took the hit and Akainu now is probably seething with rage thinking "if only that pirate didn't get in my way....if only I was faster....none of these events would happen"

Both Big Mom and Kaido were members of the Rocks Pirates, who were famous of colliding with Roger and Garp in their prime.
And Buggy... he was already famous as the warlord.
Luffy after all wasn't also a nobody before being a Yonko, yet his journey as the liberator of Kingdoms and the one who declared war on WG, he was already a big name before even learning Haki.
Of course Luffy being the youngest ever Yonko is impressive, but calling them nobodies would the same thing as saying Julius Caeser was a nobody, before he became the first emperor.

To fight Luffy is to fight a few of the strongest superpowers in the world. Rayleigh and the Amazons is nuisance enough. Add in the grand fleet and his old friends like Alabasta and Dressrosa, and the fishmen, you got yourself a full-blown war.

This is definitely a new pace for Luffy. Before, the Marines would pounce on him without a 2nd thought and with everything they have on hand. But now that he’s officially a Yonko, they can’t lay a finger on him without upper brass approval

Marine ain't afraid of the war against SHs but the possible backup that might show up. Going up against SHs fleet, RA, Rayleigh, Garp etc isn't gonna be easy compared to WBs fleet.

Crazy to see Akinu switch gears on fighting Luffy when he almost killed him at Marineford and was incredibly persistent in trying, but now that he's an Emperor and has Gear 5, he says to not engage with him at all
Back then Luffy was within his reach, and he was certain he could kill Luffy before he grew to be able to actually threaten the world government's strongest fighters. Now Luffy has been acknowledged as an emperor, he is nowhere near where Akainu is (and Akainu can't just leave since he is now the fleet admiral) and he has no confidence in the ability of CP-0 to deal with Luffy considering that two of them already fought him and Zoro two years ago and they lost. All he can do is wait for Kizaru to show up and hope that he manages to kill Luffy this time.

Probably the worst part of his promotion, he no longer has the freedom to act leave marine headquarters to face threats directly. It seems almost as though the higher up one goes to the top levels of the organization, the more their ability to move about freely is limited.

Might also be the reason why he targeted Luffy first rather than Ace back in the Marineford Arc. Between those two, Luffy is the biggest threat to their world because of his potential. He probably attacked Luffy first to elliminate that threat. Unfortunately, Ace took the hit and Akainu now is probably seething with rage thinking "if only that pirate didn't get in my way....if only I was faster....none of these events would happen"
