For those not familiar with the Arabic language, it is common in romantic poems to refer to males and females using the same pronouns. I am unaware of the origin of this, but I have seen it and heard it in many poems and songs, including new ones.
Khalid Abdelwahab What pronouns? I’m learning Arabic, and I’m very interested in Arabic culture. Could you explain it to me? Is there a “neutral” gender pronoun?
Lea D kind of yeah a pronoun for two genders but it’s used for males only when it’s a conversation.. yet if you use it on poems only it’s referring to the two genders (of course that’s depending on the subject of the poem.) It was kind of weird to read the english translation because it seemed like it’s only referring to a male XD

Graças a Deus eu nasci árabe e minha língua é árabe
Here is an English poem inspired by this song. I tried to keep the feel and the relationship between the singer and the woman he loves while adapting it to a modern American ear. Every poem needs a context, and in my case, I chose a young man wounded in battle who returns home, carrying a deeper wound in his heart. His friends bring him to a dance and there, a young woman invites him to dance. I wanted to capture the emotional depth of the lyrics while steering clear from a sexual undertone, which is absent in the original. Lastly, I tried to stick as close as possible to the meter in the song and chose words that approximate the flow of the text in Arabic. To sum up, my rendition is not a translation, rather it is an inspired attempt at conveying something of the beauty from the original Arabic. I hope it will give the English listeners a greater appreciation for the emotional tinge and longing expressed in this songs. If you try to sing along, you'll soon discover that the Arabic meter has its own peculiarities which are difficult to reproduce in English. In other words, the poem below would require tweaking the melody and for this, I apologize. When you invited me to dance Your smile refreshed my soul It was love at first glance Your embrace made me whole My love and my tender woe Your joyful gaze soothes my pain More deeply than you'll 'ver know Your gaze, my freedom and my chain Michael Joseph Murano -- Author of the Epic of Ahiram
Once upon a time there was a kingdom called Al andalus, some people have seen it said it was a pearl, the other people said that was just a moon but the the others confirmed it was a moon, a pearl, a diamond above the mountains of Iberia, a civilization, an empire , a school and even it was University by it crowded streets, stunning architecture, fountains and beautiful gardens...it was happy, elegant , wearing always the white dress as long as it was celebrating the wedding always, the wedding of medicine when met the algebra, the philosophy when it was Knocking the doors of Al andalus carrying the Greek logical theories, carrying the Babylonian geometry, and the yamanite arches.....but the other part of people came, and I wish they hadn't, they said that they can't see anything, they couldn't find abouabdil, beni ommeyah ! And they asked where are wellada and ibn zaydon?!, They could see only the palms of iraq in Cordoba, only the alhambra crying in the entrance of Granada...they asked about the horses! The water even the birds left the island.... they asked why everything is black in black in sivilla, toleda and Madrid....they realized then the fact...that Al andalus was centuries ago !
Just enough to be human to love something beautiful guys.. forget countries, borders, languages colours.. we got souls..
there's nothing wrong with loving a song from a different culture. doing what you're suggesting strips away the history and culture behind this song.

for you who're asking about the translation of this song it's goes like this :
When I saw my love sway, his beauty amazed us
Something in a moment captivated us
Like a branch bending gracefully
Oh my fate, and reason for my perplexity
Who could be the one to alleviate my sufferings in love and torment,
Except the King of beauty
Oh mercy, mercy, mercy.
+ali sultan just to be clear i did not translate it i just copy it from some where else online ;)
It sounds like it's about the Prophet Muhammad sws then, I hope true

Graças a Deus eu nasci árabe e minha língua é árabe
I’m in love and enchanted by the Arabic language and so lucky actually to be a native speaker❤
My friend told me to check this in school today :D beautiful.
When you invited me to dance
Your smile refreshed my soul
It was love at first glance
Your embrace made me whole
My love and my tender woe
Your joyful gaze soothes my pain
More deeply than you'll 'ver know
Your gaze, my freedom and my chain
Michael Joseph Murano -- Author of the Epic of Ahiram

Beautiful words....
