    Thanks so much for the help, because compared to the 'open and throw it in' process Toyota has, putting a CAF in my Ford is like fighting a dragon...in a small and confined space. 😂 Thankfully my local hardware store had this very tiny T20 screwdriver that got the 4th and 5th out so it went well from there.

      It is a five minute job. On a Mk4 Mondeo you have to remove the glove box which is far more time consuming. On Mk3 Mondeo it was 2 screws on the outside under the passenger side wiper. Literally a 2 minute job!

      I have worked as a manufacturing engineer for a supplier that makes HVAC units for Ford vehicles. The requirements set forth for airflow, noise, and unit cost are the primary goal we have to meet. We must meet those specs while fitting the unit in a very tight space inside the dashboard. There is a lot of other equipment that takes up that area besides the HVAC. After those, manufacturability is the next consideration. The unit needs to be easy and cheap to assemble. Finally, after all other considerations is serviceability. When that is like 5th on the list, you can expect it is not going to be the ideal setup.
      That being said I share your frustration. I'm currently doing this job in my Fiesta too. I wish it could be different!

    I have a 2011 Fiesta and, unless I missed it, I never saw anything in the manual about the filter or it's placement. I take my car to the dealership for maintenance and it's never been recommended to me to replace it.
    That first long plastic part you take off seems to be what will be the hardest part putting back. With it being so clogged, what was being blocked? Air still comes out of the vents when I turn on the heat or AC.

  • @AlenMop
    @AlenMop ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is the worst design I've ever seen in the car. I just did a road trip with my Civic and when I was doing the road trip I decided to change the air filter. Drop the glove box down and without any tools. It took me 10 seconds to remove the filter and 10 seconds to put the new one in. Done. I'm right now struggling for 5 minutes to put the filter inside without breaking the filter. That is a big misconception at you saying that this is just a picture. It's like cardboard with you. Bend it enough. It's useless. You want the air to be going through the filter and not for the filter to not be installed correctly. Bend the filter enough and it will not be open all the way inside the box and air will just go around it. On top of that, the amount of tools that were required and the difficulty is beyond a sane vehicle design by the same person. This must have been designed by an insane person in a psychiatric ward
