    Thanks for looking the thing over. I was just blown away that, while this happened and yes I got duped into buying the shiny thing with the stupid new features, I got sent in 4 different directions on how to get the thing replaced. Between Telus, Samsung, the Insurance Company and the shop I bought it at, none of them wanted to help me. They all tried to pass the buck.
    At the end Telus said they would exchange it for something else.
    I'm hoping to get my hands on a Nokia 3310
    No more bells or whistles for this guy.

The phone before this one lasted me 7 years and I'm going on 3 years with this model. If I spend $500 on a device it had god damn better not be designed to fail. I know it's designed to fail because every piece of plastic I've ever put a crease in and folded and unfolded repeatedly has snapped. • @maudiojunky
      @maudiojunky 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Glass isn't subject to work hardening. Its material properties are very unlike plastics and metals. You'll find that some semi-crystalline and all amorphous plastics tend to exhibit more repeated stress failures than other plastics though - try breaking a polyester (semi-crystalline but generally highly-oriented) water bottle by flexing it repeatedly vs. snapping off its HDPE pop lid hinge. We've all seen similar repeated stress failures in polypropylene, more weakly semi-crystalline, and ABS, amorphous, but again glass is more like good polyester if you want to draw a comparison for fatigue. Polyester with a bi-axially oriented semi-crystalline structure (Mylar brand name) is what's used to make modern drum heads for musical instruments and can be subjected to tens of thousands of wear cycles with almost no degradation unless the drummer exceeds the material's stress limit - wear actually tends to come from the constant tuning stress stretching the material over time or a harder than designed for impact. All that being said, there is clearly a failure mechanism the manufacturer is still working out here, but it's almost certainly not work hardening.

      On the z flip 5, Samsung applies a screen protector, and says it is not removable. They do advertise 1 free replacement (of the protector, not the screen) if it becomes damaged. I had the 4 and that had a screen protector from factory that was advertised as removable but not recommended. It had bubbling after a few months and I took it off. I have used this principle to stack beer cans to the ceiling. You start with a "loose" column of stacked cans. The very last can is twisted so to make a spring between the loose stacked cans and the ceiling. This will cause compression throughout the entire stack. The cans will act like "rope" to the point you can form the stack in different configurations. Flick cigarette butts at it and it will not fail because the stack is under compression.

    Experienced "slippage" with my pixel watch. The back plate is literally just glued on with no mechanical attachment at all. So I took the watch off my wrist and the plate just fell one day. The run around that ensued was infuriating and I eventually got them to send me a refurbished watch for free, despite having paid for a new watch that fell apart under regular use after 4 months.

    Iv bein rocking these fold/flip phones since the first gen, bein hot or too cold is a definite killer on these devices. The fold is better for this reason since you can use the front screen until the device is normal operating temp. Im in the caribou where iv used it ice fishing or laid in in the snow under the car or even had it welding. If it's open and it's cold, you leave it open till it warms up id almost argue it would be common sence tho that's not a frequent trait of many these days lol 😅. Also I bought my fold 3 used for less then a new contract yeah warranty isn't a thing but I'm already over 3 years so I'd say it wouldn't matter anymore anyways.

Every time the fella tries to convince me I need one with a good camera. I too have stopped buying expensive phones. Cheap phones are a lot tougher. I'm a builder and I've had my phone for well over a year with no case and no screen protector. I've dropped it on concrete countless times, keep it in my tool belt rubbing up against tools and getting covered in abrasive silica dust, rain, and whatever else. Haven't killed it yet. All the flagship phones I've bought have lasted less than 6 months.

    I've had a zfold for over 3 years. My wife has had the flip 3 and flip4. I have seen others at my work used the flip for years. I have noticed an interesting pattern that causes the inside folding of the display area to crack. Many had the factory display cover bubble up and would remove it completely. Those that did would often have the inisde crease crack within six to 8 months. I was guilty of the same and satrted to notice my crease in the fold start to crack at the outer edges. At this point, I installed a display cover back, and after over a year, it stopped the cracking from spreading further. I think Samsung should mention that the display cover it comes with isn't just there to protect it from scratching, but it seems to provide some kind of structural support that prevents the center of the display from cracking. Opening it when the device is too cold can also do this. I've used mine multiple times on Prudhoe bay Alaska, but i try not opening it when its extremily cold out.

    I actually have this phone and am surprised to see it take center stage as one of your videos. Don't know how long your buddy has had his, but I've been using mine for about 3 months now and it's working pretty good. They do make cases for them, but they're not as strong as a normal one since the screen needs to be flush with itself when it closes, but it works fine. The 2 biggest things that have been annoying are the magnets that hold the screen together like collecting metal shavings and a lack of an aux port. Still works good and no glass break. Will update if i remember to, love your videos.

    I think the more likely cause of the break is directly to do with the additional layer of material that is the screen protector, if you imagine the screen bending when you fold it without the screen protector, it will take a certain "path", now do the same thing but with the screen protector in place, the protector will want to take the same route the screen did and will push the screen out and stretching it causing the break. If you think of a car axle turning and the wheels moving diffrent distance just on a smaller scale
