When you climb the Gendarme mountain... see all the places you have gone to... go higher and higher, and see how small all those locations...
And then you get at the top, gazing on the gorgeous view of what you conquered... and then you drop your jaw from the view on the other side. Those temples... those giant mushroom-like trees... you realize that all that transpired before was just the beginning... and the REAL Adventure starts now.
Gendarme is kinda like Darm Tower in Ys I and II. The pinnacle which divides beginning from the real stuff.

Gendarme is like one of my favorite dungeon in jrpgs. You climb up the huge ass mountain while avoiding the primordials and when you reach the top and watch the gorgeous view of the island from above, all your hard work is paid off.
....avoiding? You didn't clear the entire dungeon systematically fighting tooth and nail for 2-3h?
You known what's crazy ? Starting from 1:35 the main chorus has the tempo of the main theme in a thrash metal version, evident by that little tune to end the main theme in 2:00. If you heard the main theme many times, you'll know that little tune plays in the end of the main chorus to close it off. This right here is thrash metal greatness. Considering gendarme's the turning point of the story and what we find on the other side, this is perfect. I'm a newcomer to the series. I liked how this game looked like an anime game from the 2000s and boy I didn't regret it. Definitely a Ys fan now
I'd say this is more power metal style. Japanese composers especially for video game soundtracks love to use a thing called leitmotif. It's a reuse or a reoccurring existing theme implemented but they often transition well but they change the key signature, can be darker or brighter.
This is my first ever Ys game and I've yet to come across a single track that feels like filler. Every single one has been incredible.

Might as well enjoy it as much as you can the later games have gone downhill in terms of music quality and it's not good anymore
Man, it's nice to see new fans of Ys 8! It's definitely my favorite, but I highly recommend you play Ys 9: Monstrum Nox now, it's such a banger of a game too!
I don't think anyone could fathom how epic a midgame could be until you reach the top of this mountain having had this blasting in your ear the whole way, finally seeing past the summit, and reflecting on how epic your journey has already been.

I made it to the summit this evening. The view was incredible. To think I have only explored half of the island so far.
I also found it incredibly satisfying to finally be able to kill Primordials after you obtain the Orichalchum weapons. And finally killing Avalodragil as well in the raid.

I did'nt imagine one minute what's awaited me behind the other side of the Big Mountain. The progression is so incredible and always surprising since the beggining until the end. This Ys will be memorable for a decade in the franchise history.
Love the game so much and this is one of the ones that keeps a person hanging out in the same area for awhile. So good. Very Vinnie Moore-ish.
Considering just "standing around" heals you in the field, yeah there's incentive to just stay still and take in the sights and sounds.
@@AloisAgos Remember that Gend'armes is a dungeon. In dungeons standing still doesn't recover the party's health

YS tracks are always the best.
It's in the DNA of this franchise, EVERY (or a good part) of the Y's has a very good soundtrack. Y's I, II, Wanderers, Oath in Fhelgana, Origin, Seven, Mask of Sun, Memories of Celceta...
Immaculate composition, absolutely one of Unisuga's best. The intense arrangement with the drums and guitars is excellent.
That one part that goes so fast in melody. I love it so much.

Ys games always had soundtrack bangers.
When games boast that you can climb a mountain I don't want to literally just climb up a mountain. I want to weave in and out of its intricacies whilst being enamored by the flora and fauna that inhabits it: The rolling rocks that threaten my path, the crumbling segments that give way beneath my weight, and the vicious encounter that awaits at its peak. Only then can you truly appreciate the view because it shows how far you've come. Then you stare off into the unknown on the other side of the mountain and realize there are new secrets to discover.

We (or at least I) also know almost nothing about him. It might be because of Falcom's policy or just him appreciating privacy but still the guy is pretty mysterious.
@@CS2Malk Honestly, out of all Falcom's internal composers I think we know the least about him. Several of the ex-composers have social media accounts, Koguchi's introduction interview is up on Falcom's site, and even Sonoda got interviewed a while back, but Unisuga? There isn't much on him. As far as I know, the most we've got is an old interview which I can't find.
@@MaskedKingDavid Falcom seems to not appreciate their composers acting in public. My biggest fear is that Koguchi will replace completely Unisuga since I can't see any room for him right now.
