    I have something to say about number 2: I spent some time working for a famous rent-a-car company and I came to the conclusion that throwing everybody to a canibalistic pit is not healthy or sustainable, because eventually it would destroy the team, due to the fact that there's no room for synergy (nobody is helping anybody improve) I think I would encourage cooperation inside and competition outside (against other companies doing the same), that would make us stronger (and mentally healthier). +Valuetainment

      Agreed. I've watched too many retail stories on TH-cam, and it seems to me that those commission based, competition encouraged workplace are full of lying, back stubbing SOBs. I can't say much about how competition stimulates sales, but I can say this without doubt: stealing clients from colleagues doesn't increase your company's overall sales.

      Very true. This is a short term view. I guess his job is to go into somewhere and make improvements and then on to the next. So short term this old school way might work but not long term.

    Hearing you talk about peer pressure to stay til 8 PM on a Friday or Saturday, JUST to show up coworkers, is the exact reason people are quiet quitting. There's no reward for staying late, just a benefit to you, the business owner. If you can't impress your boss in the first 8 hours, the extra 30 minutes means NOTHING.

    • @paulrodman2628
      @paulrodman2628 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is how people can tell your average. And the effort you put in to things will be average. And why your likely to be paid average. You say people putting in extra time will only benefit the owner? Well what about the increased commission from the extra time calling or talking to customers? What if they're paid to work that extra time? What if the boss is providing incentives to work that time and create more sales? You don't think or comment any of these things, just how unfairly you and others are being treated by the presence of competition?? God help your kids if they ever play a team sport. Are you going to complain if one or two kids practice more than your child? Hit more hits or score more goals?? Are you going to whine about the competitive nature of the team your child is on??? God help them and you. Your attitude is very average and very victim mentality.

      I tend to agree in general, but I would say that the incentives are different when you work on commission. If you stay late to close a sale you get the benefit of the commission.

    6:23 Gosh this one was something which i can associate myself with so much... so many times have i been caught trying to solve other personal problems between 2 people and then i stopped and tried to persuade people to be honest with others and talk to them directly. Its so good to see that i was right despite all the criticism i got from them in turn... |I would intervene only if all the honesty would not make the situation better.

    I think the 90/10 rule got me twice. 1st in the aspect of focusing on a willing staff; building and prunning them to catch one's DNA. Then move to the next willing/ready
    I think have been thinning across 1st for the fear of investing so much in 1person only to loose that one guy later on...
    Also the incentives at 90/10 must really mean alot of praise for that one high performer. Now I understand. And will surely try these.
    Any further reading on compensation plans...especially in retail.
    I love these trainings especially ones made last 4/5 years. Thanks for giving knowledge for free.

    Don’t complain about sales people to other sales people. Don’t get too cocky, CEO’s should never give sales managers too much confidence that he gets too cocky. Don’t play favorites. Managers should get underneath every rep. Don’t pitt sales people against eachother.. manage people individually. Peer pressure is a macho stupid approach. Being equitable is what motivates. Showing reps that you will build them up and serve them and give them the tools they need.How much do you lose when youre pissing your reps off? They spend time and your money looking based on the environment you create

    It’s weird, I’ve seen so many great leaders that I’ve worked for and when I came to car sales I noticed that the sales manager was never a manager he was just the best sales guy I ever saw. Every dealership, for years, the sales manager was always the best sales guy…. The natural. Because of that they never learned how to be leaders. They are talented individuals. I watched many sales teams fall apart due to poor leadership fostering toxic environments. But I’ve also been in hyper competitive environments where we all knew our strengths. I was a great turn closer, I racked half deals every month because I was great in the 1v1. The guys saw that and let me take every single turn for them. We created our own culture and we all made a lot of money doing it.
    All of these tools mentioned in this video fostered to most toxic environments I ever worked in.

    I don't know but competition in a company (as in my workplace) makes terrible environment. Everyone's finding fault in one another. They became perfectionist. Can you explain more what is a healthy competition looks like or feels like?

    • @transvivor7151
      @transvivor7151 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not competition that just sounds like complaining. Competitors makes sure they do their best and others try to exceed them. It has nothing to do with others performance just exceeding what another has done. Tearing each other down doesn't build anyone's sales up.

    • @AJ-lv9ex
      @AJ-lv9ex 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      RJ VE Competition needs competetive people. Maybe the reason for your "unhealthy competition" is, that not everyone is competetive. This is the reason why most athletes would do fine in business, because they are competetive and love competition.

    I had a record sales year- in total, almost $2 million in sales. By myself- no direct mail, no extra social media manager (just me posting), and no other advertising. It was hard work but I was truly passionate about all of it. Management brought in a relative for me to train and they're taking 40% of my commissions because he's on salary and they, "need (my) 40% to pay his salary!" I don't get it. I've proven I'll make them 10 times what I earn but they don't want me to earn as much as I did. It's disheartening and I don't get it.

    Some points are good and some are
    Toxic....call counting is one of those toxic cultures. You either got a sale or you didn’t....I can do in 5 calls what might take others 500. Also, most sales managers don’t sell anymore and almost never listen to the real struggles from the actual sales guys doing the work. Losing your best sales reps? Answer is simple, it’s you...and probably your commission plan.
