Quick reminder: Jiang Cheng was the younger brother, then the leader and rebuilder of the Jiang clan, fought a war, watched his brother become consumed by demonic cultivation, become distant, and leave him for wen clan members, but still tried his best to protect his family. He watched his brother, better in every aspect compared to him, seemingly kill their beloved sister after publicly calling out and shaming the prominent cultivator clans. He's hurt, confused and conflicted because he wants to protect wwx but wwx doesn't get that. The world is saying that his brother is a monster but even then (spoiler) jiang cheng still doesn't get rid of chengqing, keeps it clean and useable, even carries it around with him. He refused to put a tablet in the hall of ancestors because he still hope/ believes that his brother is somewhere. And then his brother is back and the golden core reveal has Jiang Cheng wondering if anything he has done, he can even call his. I love Jiang cheng, he's such a complex character with a lot that he doesn't show on the surface. I love how you captured him and the song selection was amazing!
It's an old comment but I just wanna say imagine someone you considered your brother telling you he would never leave your side and then leaving you. You'd definitely be mad at them right?
Hate and anger are to different things hate is stronger than anger you get over anger hatred is hard and colder and yes they may sometimes look Similar there is a difference between them
These fan-made animatics always make me far more sad than show ever could, and that's really saying something.This one and the one to "Monster" from the Frozen Musical are really sad just because it shows us a deeper side of the characters that we don't always get to see in the show.
This is why I really love stories where Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying reconcile. They deserve to have that after everything they suffered. I just want them to finally give each other a hug and finally cry and mourn the life they lost. I just can't read fanfics which make Jiang Cheng a villain... I know things are complicated but still...
What I love the most about this is Jiang Cheng's questioning as to why he should grieve for his brother after everything he did to him and then going so far as to call him a monster. He's in denial about how much his brother being dead hurts him since after Yanli's death, Wei Ying was the only family he had left and he helped kill him. Not to mention the fact that the real monster in this situation isn't Wei Ying, it's Jiang Cheng. Wei Ying sacrificed everything for Jiang Cheng and those he loved only for those loved ones to either die (Wen Qing, the Wen Clan, and Yanli) or turn on him (Jiang Cheng). Jiang's response to all his sacrifices was to turn on him the first chance he got to save face and it's perfectly captured in this how he's starting to realize that he assigned a lot of blame to Wei Ying that he didn't deserve.
I kinda disagree. jiangcheng definitly had fault; but he didn't "turn his back on wuxian to save face", he wanted to PROTECT wuxian, and he genuinly saw the wens as monsters thanks to his pain, yet still didn't tell him not to, he wanted wuxian to let them go because he wanted to PROTECT wuxian, and he made that very clear, he just couldn't see that wuxian cared more about justice and would die for that, while jiang cheng just wanted to protect the only family member he had left; only after wuxian leaving jiang cheng to protect jiang cheng and jiang cheng being on his very own raising a kid while everyone around him villified and demonized his brother, he also fell to his anger and sense of betrayal, as to him, the promise wuxian made of always being by his side, was thrown in the trash in order to protect people who to him, were the cause of almost all his friends and family dying. He did not turn on him to save face, he did everything he could to protect him, and felt betrayed by wuxian instead, and following that, fell for the deceit that *everyone else except lan wanji* also did. Only after everything was revealed, the golden core, the lies, the wens, did he learn about how much wuxian fully did for him, and that it was to protect jiang cheng, just like how jiang cheng wanted to protect Wei Wuxian. In their relationship, they were both..terrible at communicating, and neither fully knew what the other was doing and why.
Both WWX and JC sacrifised their lives for each other. And you are wrong about one thing. It was WWX who was trying to pull away. It was WWX who lied to JC and continued to lie. It was WWX who pushed JC away and turned his back.
This is really cool! I’ve thought about this song in relation to MDZS (but alas no drawing skills), so it was nice to see someone do the whole thing. Thought WN as the male voice was a nice touch. (For my idea I had WWX as the male voice with everything set in the events following his revival, but that gets a bit fucky. Your version makes much more sense.) Some random little things I liked: fluffy hair, expressions, and the color usage!
