  • What is active thermography?
Active thermography analyzes an object or process without naturally occurring thermal distribution. In other words, no temperature differences are present.
With active thermography, the object of interest is thermally, mechanically, or electrically stimulated with an external source (in this example, a halogen lamp).
The excitation creates a dynamic temperature gradient inside the object.
Suppose a defect is present inside the object. In that case, it interrupts the heat flow from the excitation source, causing a variation in the temperature distribution at the object's surface. This variation is viewable with an infrared camera.
Active thermography systems typically use a computer to record the object's surface temperatures as a function of time. Analysis of the IR image recordings reveals defects within the object.

Hello, thank you for the excellent content you have created about active thermography. I had a question and I would appreciate it if you could answer. Can defects in paint (such as repaints and detecting paint underneath) in the hood area of a car be detected using active thermography and xenon flash when the car has been driven for a distance and the engine is warm?

It seems interesting. I want to know the exact product link of Xenon Flash lamp, you explained in 1:22
