That's surprising that a cold source reflection affects the readout of 75% emissive surface. Intuition tells me that the cold is the lack of energy, so O Kelvin cold source should not cause any reflection síce it doesn't emit anything. But if one imagines the cold object IR image "reflects" on the surface, it starts making sense.

    Really well defined....

This is completely wrong; An emissivity of 0.75 does not mean, that 25% of the radiation coming from the body is coming from reflections. For example, if there is very little background radiation, than almost 100% of the IR coming from the surface will be emissions. On the other hand, if there is a very strong background radiation, then almost all of the IR coming of off the surface will be due to reflections.

crap, i was hopping this was good material. Thanks for the warning!

The description in the video is not wrong - but the video was describing the weighting that should be applied against target emission vs reflections. With emissivity of 0.75 (75%*emission + 25%*background reflection), if there's very little background radiation, the 25% term simply goes to 0 (and the uncalibrated measurement would be lower than actual). If there's strong background radiation, the 25%*(strong reflections) would overpower the actual emission radation, and you would get much higher reading (the uncalibrated measurement would be higher than actual)

@@woodrunner51 It is still a good material, but please read my comment below to clarify the weighting applied.

Inadvertently sent the last comment. Well they finally agreed to shut down the plant send all employees home. Even before that my idiot boss tried to recomend that sit cross legged with some kind protective cover. In one second what that would look like. I then got up and left and slammed the door so hard I nearly broke the glass on the door. I actually did not hear the final results. I actually moved to the furthest point of the plant, I did watch him clean it. It was so bad that I didn't realize these components were made copper. When he was finish I believed you could eat offit. The plant opened up in time for afternoon shift at 2:00 PM. I was just certified recently but thought it would be good Idea to send this report in the training company. They published it in their monthly. ( might have been Quarterly)with Thermagrams and comments nearly worth for word. I only regret I didn't keep this. I actually didn't keep my training because of my honesty. I regret that the manual is worth more than a lot of people where I live make in a whole year. Right now I couldn't care less. Just by searching the internet. This almost priceless. I this Webinar for free on Utube, I already listened to a couple lessons while writing. Even without seeing the slides I still remember a lot of the theories. I plan on taking the wwebinar again. Then I am going to make list of possible troubles that can occur that my boss when I mentioned Infrared doubted that what his smartphone camera can do
