      Sumida Ryogoku I, personally, eat fruit with no issues. If i eat a cookie or treat food, that’s a different story, I crave sugar for a few days.

    I had no idea Dr. Becky that you struggled with the sugar cravings and addiction like so many of us. I have gained so much respect for you as someone who has been there, so what you have to say has much more weight with me. Thank you for sharing your story. I am going to incorporate the salad with fats in my diet. I must beat this addiction, it’s nice to know I’m not alone. You certainly understand the struggle.

    A year ago I was an old fat guy. Been living HFLC, lost 80 pounds, and now I’m a 53 year old gym rat. Sugar can kiss it.

    Oh. I meant to comment on another video you had about "stoppers". I do OMAD (M-F). So when I'm done with dinner, I brush my teeth and this prevents me from late night snacking.

      Never a dieter, in my intro to keto for weight loss, I was blessed to recognize early on that I was NOT working to get back to SAD (Standard American Diet). Lifestyle is the word AND the mindset for dietary changes that can go the distance.

    Two years LCHF but during Christmas as a native German I am obliged to bake Christmas goodies for the family. I did really good the first year on LCHF, but this last Christmas I did "taste" some of my cookies and the monkey was right back! My family even noticed that I was looking for something sweet and they said they won't ask for German Christmas goodies next year. It took me three weeks to lose the cravings and actually gained a few pounds, but also did not walk during Dec. I will continue to bake because it's our tradition, we play Christmas music and on Sundays light the Advent candles to celebrate the season. I have to be mindful of my addiction, and am now a believer that it can be a true addiction. No substitute will ever taste like a real sugar cookie but just as I know there are things just not worth it so is sugar. Thank you for this video, I appreciate the knowledge I gain by watching you. Many years ago I saw a documentary in German about food production and one segment showed how food is now going global, this icecream factory was shipping world wide and the commentator said that for the US market they have to add a third more sugar than for other countries. America runs on sugar, we have a medical experiment on how a society will survive a Diabetes Type II Pandemic. Probably that's why we won't find the political will to create a universal healthcare system.

    It can be so hard to stop eating sugar. Now I can avoid it fairly easily. It's crazy to think of now. I use to eat sugar every day.

    Just yesterday my wife had me looking for her pint of Vanilla Ice cream.( I know she thought I ate it) After finding her mint ice cream I found her vanilla behind the six pak of vanilla cups. I knew if I ate one bite I would eat the pint or two or three cups. The initial bite/taste is a no no for me. My fix (replacement) was a soft avocado with 1/4 cup HWC and stevia. It worked for me and I made two servings out of it. There would never be a second serving if I had used the real drug of sugar. Had to add that I've had some friendships cool because I asked them to quit making me apple pies/apple turnovers etc.. There is no way one can convince the cook that you cannot eat it anymore that she will truly accept as they do not believe it's a health issue. I really believe it will take 10 or15 years for people to understand sugar is a killer. My wife is a nonbeliever. It's so tough seeing all the things she bakes for people and holidays. One relative likes chocolate fudge, one likes peanut butter fudge, one likes lemon cake, one likes ooey-gooey (chess cake) plus she likes pecan pies. This is ever holiday and special occasion. When they leave I make sure it all goes with them except the pecan pie, she hangs onto it. OH, did I mention the 25 plus jam cakes she makes for the Holiday gifts. I can shut the door when it's cooking but you gotta eat sometime. I fell hard Christmas of 2019 and after "cleaning" the peanut butter stirring spoon I went beserk and ate some of all the desserts. WOW, it took me days to get back into ketosis. Several special dinners since and I now know you're one drink (spoon) away from the gutter. Sorry, no one to talk to about it except you folks. Sugar sucks, keto rocks.

      I feel you man. My girlfriend is a nonbeliever. I went on keto and lost 15 pounds in two months. I tried to get her stop eating rice, bread and pasta. She tried one week and gave up cus she was craving carbs (i.e. sugar withdrawal) and she “knows her body”. She gave up and lost zero pounds.
      We eat almost the some thing except she adds rice, pasta and bread to her diet and she insisted her diet is a balanced diet.
      Talking about frustration. I know what is good for both of us and she refuses to acknowledge the obvious different outcomes.
      Worst of all, she complains about not fitting into old clothes anymore. Here I am in the best shape of my life.
      Sigh!

    It’s so funny to me how women often, when we “get it”, we wind up looking in our 50’s like the daughters of the women (us) in our pictures when we were in our 30!!! Dr. Becky looks like her own daughter of the woman in the young picture she shows. That’s a great thing! :)

    I'm such a sugar addict. I lost 30lbs last fall thru intermittent fasting. I think I went one 3 week period with no sugar. It's the first time I'd been sugar free in my 63 years. I eat tons of anything cinnamon candy or gum related. During the 30lb loss I ate eggs, chicken breasts and strawberries. Nothing else for months. The period I went sugarless the weight came off faster, I felt better, slept better and had more energy. But not eating or eating the same things made me very bored still I cheated. First just cream and sugar in my coffee in the morning. If I do nothing else but have cream and sugar on coffee in the morning ALL weighloss completely stopped. Or I'd have cheat days and then weight loss stopped. Eventually I stopped eating clean and now I've gained 20 of the 30 back.

      For me, having a cheat day with sugar, would be like being an addict and having a cheat day with drugs.

      Barbara Schmidt You are so right. I am in recovery and recently have started to detox from sugar and by far sugar is way harder than drugs and alcohol. I’m realizing there are no real “cheat days”. If I “cheat” it derails me for days. Damn you sugar!

      @@azabujuban-hito8085 No artificial sweeteners. I'll have an apple once or twice a week. I depend on herbs and spices to liven up my food. I also consume a lot of turmeric and ginger.

    Not silly to mourn the loss. I think I mourned my carbs for almost a year after diagnosis of T2. Its hard to give up "comfort" foods. After while I began to look at all the good foods I've learned to like and discovered instead of thinking of loss. I gained so much more.

    When I first became a diabetic due to a autoimmune issue, with all the complications I was facing, the only one that upset me was my knowledge that I could not have my sugar treat every evening. However, I substituted nuts and/or cheese sticks in the evening as a replacement. It worked. I realized that I did not want sugar, I just needed a snack. I patterned it after the fact that my father gave up smoking by holing a fake cigarette. He said he just wanted to hold a cigarette, not necessarily ingest nicotine.

    I always claimed the corner pieces of the birthday cakes, my favorite part of the cake was the frosting. Never understood the folks who would slice away the frosting and only eat the cake. What a waste I thought. On bad days I would even go to the grocery store to buy the tubs of frosting in the bakery aisle. Yes, sugar was my drug. I would instantly feel that AAAAHHHHH moment when the sugar hit took effect. Dr. Becky, I do mourn the loss of sugar. Stress eating is real. I used sugar like others use drugs or alcohol. I am 21 months on Keto. Lost weight and blood sugar is under control. Dr. Keith, you are correct, no snack foods in the house. They are just too easy, even if they are "Keto Snacks" . This journey is still a struggle for me, but with the help of good folks like 2 Fit Docs, I remain hopeful. Thank you.

    Dr. Becky you said something towards the end about how your Joints feel better. That struck a Bell with me, because that is one of the main things I have noticed in myself since being on KETO. You think you could explain just why that is in another video sometime? Thank you for your great explanation on getting sugar out of your life. Dr. Keith good interview, you both are looking well and congratulations on 26 years together..

      My joints felt better within a week or two after I started keto. My understanding is that a lot of it is the reduction of inflammation that occurs when you no longer stuff your body with carbohydrates. Carbohydrates make you retain water.

      There's a lot of factors that can reduce joint pain when on Keto but two main reasons are when you lose weight, you take the pressure off your joints.
      Another is artificial sweeteners one of which is Aspartame which is well known to contribute to joint pain. Since you have been avoiding that, your joints are thanking you for it.

      Like the other comment said, artificial sugar causes inflammation. Keep up the good work! 👍🏾 I too am trying to quit sugar for that very reason. I have joint pain and my brain is always foggy

    With your guidance, DB, I've cut WAY down on my sugar for about 5 years now. I was an ice-cream addict, too, but not every day. Still bad. The main thing that helped me give up, or majorly cut back on sugar was you challenging me, DB and the whole ADD AS YOU SUBTRACT pointer. I now have huge veggie omelettes and salads every day. I also try to keep junk food outta the house, to in difficult-to-get locations. I feel awesome now. I will say I do still get tempted. But I like your feeling description, DB, that you don't wanna lose ground. Being a peri-menopausal, 53-year-old chick during this whole coronavirus schebang inspires me to keep on keeping on; staying strong, feeling great -- being well and carrying on. Thanks for your guidance Docs. Best!

    Great video. And I will admit that I'm a sugar addict. But because of going through all sorts of illnesses, I'm proud to say that it's been 2 weeks since I've had sugar
    Now this is with the exception of sugars that are in granola & yogurts, but still.
    However, I hate to say that there's a cherry pie in the oven that's baking to celebrate my Mom's birthday & I think I'm going to have a piece. Ugh! I hate this. I won't have the crust, because I'm wheat/gluten free, but the filling I can have. Hopefully I can redeem myself afterwards.
    But just to quick add, being off sugar is wonderful. I started to get more energy & less brain fog. It really is worth the struggle.

    Once I was finally able to get pass the 3rd week of being "sugar deprived" (cause that's how it felt) I started to feel not only better but stronger, healthier, and specially with all this momentum of will power to keep pulling myself out of sweets and high glicemic carbs addiction.
    I still have cravings but I've learned to curb them into healthier ones.

    Great presentation! Love the honesty. So refreshing. Felt kinda like I was sitting there with the two of you. I’m not “on the other side of sugar” yet, not sure I really want to or just afraid of repeated relapses. Such a difficult social and family thing, with different tastes and preferences.     Well done Dr! I’m a few years away from 60 and have been an addict since 5 years old. I experienced severe trauma as a kid and sugar replaced feelings of rejection and abandonment and soon became major source of comfort. It’s crazy as I do have a real healthy diet but have to have sweets everyday. I too eat for stress as a carer to a loved one who has major health complexes. I’ve decided to quit gradually and use my knowledge of good foods to replace some of the processed sweets I like. I’m not too overweight but am desperate to stop. I feel encouraged and will keep up looking for healthy things activities to help fill the void. I anticipate the challenge but am continuing to find ways. I also am in mourning for sugar and haven’t even given up yet

    It’s interesting that you choose to use mourning to describe your withdrawal. I too experienced the same emotional loss when I detoxed from sugar. I would have dreams for months longing for something sweet and deeply missing them. It took four months to detox and strop cravings and the feeling of loss. 5 years now on LCHF and I too feel AMAZING! I can’t go back.

    I have been about 90% sugar free for quite awhile now....love it and plan to give it up all together. A daily salad is hard to do though because of the expense and the fact that lettuce and other greens do not last long in your fridge.

    The fact that you both have gone through this and come out the other side ... literally different people, is first of all fascinating, but it certainly adds credibility when you are able to share your own experiences, with the science -- and can describe it as breaking an addiction. Wow, what a powerful message, you both look and sound great! My wife and I are just getting started on Keto and IF -- we're really trying to support each other. My wife asked me if I was stalking you guys because I've been binge watching your videos. I've learned a lot and have thoroughly enjoyed them!

    Been doing Keto for 2 yrs, during my journey it was important to me not to set the wrong example to my grand kids being overly obsessive and concerned about my diet. They certainly have noticed the 44 lb weight loss and ask me about why I don't eat certain foods, but I always try to have some kind of substitute for it, bread, sweats etc..., that way they see I am just making a different choice. I can have my treat after dinner with them and it satisfies me mentally from feeling deprived, and now the grand kids like the sugar free cookies too.

    What a great interviee 2 fit docs. Sugar is addicting. You have a bite of a sweet treat and than something snaps and you become 🥴🥴🥴🥴 and want more. Total an complete loss of control. Dark choc. Helps me.

      Dark chocolate for sure (I buy 86-90% bars). I eat just 1-2 squares as a reward 1x a week or so. Sometimes with a bit of unsweetened peanut or almond butter on top.

    I started the low sugar life, after watching your video about a 40 day start to intermittent fasting and tracking it on a calendar. I cross out each day like you said and keep track of my progress. You were right the first few days were really rough. But I am on my 16th day and feeling much better now. I am also going through perimenopause. I have noticed my knees don’t hurt when I walk up stairs now. I used to have to take one step at a time sometimes. Now I run up and down stairs and sometimes forget how painful it was just a short while ago. I’ve asked my family for no birthday cake. Like you both said, it’s a bummer for a short while, but it passes. I try to look at it as a recovery stance because I was severely addicted. I watched my grandmother die at the young age of 63 after a debilitating battle with diabetes which included dialysis 3 times a week. A few years ago my doctor told me, you’re going to get diabetes, I would rather you got it in your 90’s than in your 50’s. Thanks again for these helpful videos. 🦋

    I totally understand when you say sugar was part of your identity! I feel exactly the same way. I used to bake all the time for family and friends! But now, it's finally time to shed this part of me as I've descended into type 2 diabetes. I've cut back a lot on the sweets--now for all the added sugars to 'regular' food. Thanks for all your help! I've purchased your 21 day challenge and am shopping for it it this week and start in a few days. :-)

    Someone once said to me that quitting smoking is like separating from your best friend, although I never smoked, I think you are right that you go through a grieving process, I feel deserted from my emotional “friend “ that used to help me through and its been tough to reroute my brain and get it to focus on other things. It’s the moment that I can’t control that makes me want to eat. It’s a cruel addiction.

    In November of last year, November 2nd, I stopped eating processed sugar, then started working out after 2.5 years of doing nothing while recovering from cancer and chemotherapy. I weighed 237lbs at the time. Within 2 weeks I lost 10lbs and never looked back. I now weigh 195lbs, in great shape, feel great, cancer totally in remission. I'm 71 years old, can pass for 60 and do. Some people guess my age in late 50's.
    Sugar i have discovered, is great tasting poison that alters mood, adds belly fat, makes me feel sluggish and tired.
    I do eat a little fruit daily, usually a banana for breakfast an orange or apple after dinner. No cakes, no cookies, no candy, and I feel fantastic

      Keep sharing your testimony! Lord knows no big company is going to pay for the research to push through to the lobbyist to get laws or protections into place for what is put on shelves for us to eat. Beautiful job on restoring your health. Blessings & KETO-On.

    Two years on KETO and the addiction issues are still there. This is the only lifestyle that has allowed me to finally come to terms with my eating issues, in that I finally, for the first time in 45 years, know what it is to feel "satiated" or "full" physically. Now, I can focus on the food addiction, mental/emotional side of my journey. In the last 3 months I have had many NSVs of being able to enjoy some family celebrations and stay focused, not give in to the "one bite" mentality that derails all my healthy success. I am embracing the idea, just like with alcohol for some folks & having "one drink", that "one" is not worth it for me anymore. As time goes on, and we have so many options now that if we plan a little we can stay successful and not feel like we are missing out. I keep plenty of KETO snacks made in the fridge or ready on the shelves so when my family maybe has a treat I have an alternative. Also, the personal grace for ourselves that if we do indulge in some higher carbs, to just get refocused on the next snack/meal. It's crazy that big pharma and processed food companies have hurt so many of us, all in the name of profits. Blessings & Keto-On, be it clean , dirty or lazy.

    The more nutrient rich foods a person eats, the less they will crave carbs and sugary things. I eat very high nutritious foods, but I do treat myself sometimes. I’m a very healthy 60 years old, and I’m grateful that I love all vegetables.

    I have been completely sugar and grain free for 1 1/2 years now. Because of you guys. I am slowly getting back to my original young adult size! I feel great! I am about the same age as you guys and I have 0 medications now. I used to have high blood pressure but not now. I am considered a freak to most of the people I know. They are nice about it and they don't call me a freak or anything bad. It is just weird when they ask about my "diet" and I have to explain that the word diet is dumbest thing in the language. I ask them, "what is the proper human diet"? Nobody I have spoken with seems to know. Some are physicians! Really? You don't know what I should be eating for optimal health? You're a DR. for crying out loud.
    It is empowering to be at a party and turn down sweets, though. Everyone looks astonished that someone could do that. I know I will feel like crap if I accept. Both mentally and physically.
    Thanks to you guys I AM healthier than ever before.

    Your so right on the change of taste. I I used to drink 2 L of Coke a day then after giving up on it for a few months I had another Coke and I didn’t like the taste.

    My sugar addiction has gone down drastically. It used to be daily, now it varies and can go three days straight without. And if I do, it’s usually something truly special. Still a work in process.

    The physical withdrawal, wasn't so bad, or long. The emotional withdrawal is another matter. I just have this vague yearning to pop a cookie, or a doughnut into my mouth ... and then there is the realization that you can't ever have these things again. I committed though! Excellent format!     I have been doing Keto and following your 1-2-3 . I am a sugar addict and always have been. this has been a battle and a hurdle to get through. NO kidding! Every once in a while when I was stressed I would break and go get something sweet. I hadn't done it in awhile. But I drove to my favorite bakery and picked up a few of my old favorites. I justified it that I was under stress, I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs so sweets were my comfort (and could still be if I am not careful.) So that evening I sat with a cup of tea and tasted my old favorites. They didn't taste the same!! I was so upset...I thought the bakery had lost its touch! Since it is Pandemic I thought I must have the virus, I lacked taste and smell. However, I was burning a scented candle and it smelled great..so I ruled that out. The sweet treats had no taste and when I could taste something, it was not pleasant! They ended up in the garbage. I hope this syndrome continues, I would also like to add that any time I did crave and eat sweets in the past, I felt terrible the next day, my stomach was bloated, I was lethargic, I just felt terrible...as I said I don't drink so I called this phenomenon a "sugar hangover".

    I'm only a week into being sugar free and I feel much better. I am struggling with the cravings though. It is definitely very hard to do; but I have no choice, because it is affecting my health. I'm determined though.

    I found a lot of things tasted less good after cutting back on sugar. Now I save "cheat" days to really good bakery items and I split it at least in half. We have a vegetarian bakery near me that is so good but it's once or twice a year.

    SUGAR has always been my "drug of choice!!" I am 62 years old and still struggle with this addiction. I can quit for 2-3 weeks, sometimes more but then something will happen in my life and I will reach for the smallest amount of sugar for comfort and the vicious cycle will start all over again - it's murder! ***** I'm the one who would do a George Castanza and dig those thrown out cookies out of the trash!

    May 18th 2018...I was 265# ... I started Paleo since my doctor said I was fast tracking to another heart attack. After a week of Paleo, I said nope; and went Keto. Keto helped me lose 65#. This January...quarantine and I bought into Keto cycling. For me...really bad idea. Now I am struggling to get the sugar withdrawl off. .. the fog the silliness. Geez. like getting off narcotics. So here we are...getting back into ketosis.

    I too have a sweet tooth. I could finish a whole bar of chocolate in one sitting. Not anymore, I started my keto diet three months ago (no sugar, low carbs, moderate amount of protein and high fat) and I got through the sugar withdrawal and never look back.
    Interestingly, my taste sensitivity has changed. I can taste sweetness even when I am drinking plain water.
    Now I have zero urge for eating anything with added sugar.

    Thankfully 3 days of quitting sugar 2018 I didn't want it. Ate clean. Fasted. Exercised. Lost 130 lbs. Near 2yr mark of that and quarantine w no gym I actually backslid w sugar. Yeahhh totally bad feels in my bod. Shows up on skin. Mentally. But I'm back in the game. Lost the 10 I gained. Cinnamon in tea helps and is a blood sugar stabilizer. Good fats are yummy satisfiers. I'm OMAD and that fits me. Stay healthy out there.!

    I have quit sugar and i dont crave for it. If i eat anything with sugar is like food with bad taste.
    If i go out and if i m offered dessert, my excuse for refusing is that i m on sugar free/ low carb for a wk.
    Besides Intermittent fasting for food, i have started time off from phone & TV & laptop. I observe 6-8 hrs of "no talk" every few wks. I feel stress free.

I'm a bonafide sugar addit, and it's nice to hear you talk about the withdrawls and emotional affects this highly addictive substane really is, and is every bit a serious addiction.     You two are so cute!! Thanks Dr. Becky & Dr. Keith for this "interview." It is so helpful to hear successful stories about overcoming sugar...it is such a pervasive problem. The "adding while subtracting" sure helps the brain feel not so deprived! The added fat really does cause satiation.

    I respect people that give it up totaly but I feel I dont want to give it up altogether. For e.g. going to parties or out with friends I want to eat whatever I feel to but on my own I try to have less sugar as possible, or now and then I need a pick me up so on those days I indulge but not too much as before

      That’s kind of how I feel!
      I started no sugar no carb 2 weeks ago with the goal of making it to Thanksgiving.
      I’m kind of worried I’m going to feel very sick after eating whatever I want that day. I tell myself I’ll start over again til Christmas. But I’m starting g to have second thoughts because I want to eat the holiday food!
      I track all my foods on My Fitness Pal App and so I’m wondering about playing around with picking a now umber of carbs and sugars instead of what’s recommended on Keto.
      I have lost weight and my belly issues are gone! So there’s that...

    I started low carb diet nearly 2 months ago not because I needed to lost weight; I'm 45 152cm height 52kg weight. I did it coz i know I'll be menopausal soon and like dr becky said on the other video women could gain so much weight during that time. I like to be prepared and after a lot of research I think low card diet and ditching sugar is a healthy lifestyle regardless your gender. 2 weeks ago I switched to IF too; my eating window is 12-7. It's not as difficult as i thought it would be but i think it's because I'm already on low carb. Kicking sugar off was a challenge tho. I love baking and feeding people lol I still do but I just don't eat it; it's surprising for me when I find that I no longer crave for my bakes. Although occasionally I do have that craving so I switch it to plain Greek full fat yogurt with fresh fruits and nuts or i bake keto cookies (peanut butter one is sooo yummy).. i only lost 1kg so far but my body is so much leaner and I still am active all the way til 9pm; sometimes I do my pilates workout at that time. I drink no alcohol only water and green tea and keffir milk before bed. Honestly please do the low carb diet and ditch the sugar it's so worth it guys

    i love baking. ill bake for the family and a while and on holidays. been using monk fruit sweetener and almond or coconut flour so i can have a piece too. requires you to be a bit more creative though. whats cool is that the monkfruit and erythratol dont give you the same high as sugar but still taste sweet, so i usually dont wants another piece of cake or another cookie after ive had one. if it had been sugar i would have eaten so much more.

    I hadn't noticed the sweetness to my toothpaste until the last bits of sugar in my diet became known to me, and I eliminated them. Next step: Find sweetner-free, fluoride-free organic whitening toothpaste. I read stevia is an okay substitute. True?

    I think a treat occasionally is ok. When I don't enjoy one from time to time and say yes occasionally, I'm depressed. I don't want to live without it forever. I want to enjoy a treat here and there. There are also Keto options too. That's just me. Your videos are great.

    I’m curious about Keith’s comment that if he eats sugar now, he pays for it the next day. How? What exactly do you feel the next day? Becky, I can really identify with you feeling like it’s a drug addiction... I’m not a big sugar person but my addiction is potato chips. I am trying so hard to break it... it literally calls me daily. I think it feels like my comfort, my “home base”... probably that dopamine thing.

    I reduced my carb-intake..
    I do eat fresh fruit as organic as I can find it to be.. but don't eat baked flour products, nor pasta..
    Anyhow..
    if I have just one cookie or half a slice of homemade cake, well..
    something happens inside me and I just want more and more and end up eating many cookies and a lot of cake.
    Fortunately, this terrible thing doesn't happen often, but it still does occur, even if I'm off carbs
    (flour baked foods, candy, etc)
    for a couple of months...
    I can't say that when I cheat on these awful sugary foods, I can't really say that they taste bad..
    still taste good to me !

      The problem with this is the gums have artificial sweetens that are harmful. The only kind I could recommend is the ones with zylitol. It's harmful to pets so just be cautions of that.

    Very good video. Despite having fasted daily for 14-22 hrs over past 2 years and now possessing a normal BMI I still can't stay away from the sugar. (For example, I love a cold beer of an evening 😭).

    Great video! I would like to point out that not everyone goes through withdrawals when they start keto. I loved chocolate and nuts together as well as butter tarts and donuts! When I first started my keto journey, I made sure that I drank a lot of water and took an electrolyte supplement. I also salted my food liberally with Redmond’s real salt. I felt absolutely no withdrawal symptoms. By following this advice, my son also avoided withdrawal symptoms when he started keto in February of this year.
    I would be curious to know if I was just not as addicted as you were or if the electrolytes and water is actually what kept me symptom-free. I would also like to point out that I went hard-core keto from day one. I consumed 20 g of carbs, 75 g of protein and 105 grams of fat per day.

      I did not have the "Keto Flu" experience either. Like you, I made sure to keep up the electrolytes, water and salt. My macros were very similar to yours. I think all that was the "secret sauce" to my being able to say no to sugar. I still crave it. Im pretty sure its a mental thing with me now, but Im still able to say no while eating the Keto way.

    For me I gave up smoking, now I just love sugar. 5 years no smoking but I eat sugar everyday. It is as bad to quit as it is to quit smoking.

    Sugar for me is like alcohol. I can’t even do a little. It doesn’t matter if I haven’t had sugar for 2 years. One bite and I’m on a binge for a week. I have to treat my sugarism like alcoholism.

    Just being fat requires a lot of effort. Effort just to move, to accomplish goals, to get out of bed. I thought it was stress eating, not until I stopped eating all sugar did I realize, it's an addiction. It's a physical craving that drives you nuts trying to satisfy it. Once you give up all sugar, it's gone. No more stress eating. It's not stress, it's addiction. I've realized I can't have just a little. I can't have one piece of toast with breakfast, I can't have just two cookies, I can't have just one chocolate minibar or half a cup of Haggen Dazz. I've realized, if I do, it's off to the races again. But most importantly, I don't miss it at all. I have no physical need to eat sugar, just a wistful memory. I also cut all artificial sweeteners, it took years and years to quit Diet Pepsi.
