All the love and respect for a first ballot Hall of Famer and one of the greatest players in the history of the game... period. Top 5 without a doubt. Best right fielder ever. And the greatest hitter we've ever seen. What a pleasure to watch his brilliance as a young man growing up in Washington as a Seattle Mariners fan.

10 straight years of 200+ hit seasons. Never been done before. Probably never be done again.

I had the distinct honor of being flipped off on the I-90 floating bridge by Jay Buhner.

Buhner with the Costas/Ichiro interview callback! Noice.

His acceptance speech (which he read in English) was full of humor, honor, respect, and inspiration. It is hard to remember that a man who casts such a huge shadow in baseball is so slight of stature. His remarks included that even in Japan, because of his size, there were many who doubted he could really perform.
In 2004, when he was closing in on George Sisler's single-season record of 257 hits, I made a banner which I took to the stadium. It was a sort of acrostic. It said, "Ichiro is our Sizzler" referring both to his hot hitting and George Sisler.
    I chi ro

    Sizzler
The Capital 'I' was large and so was the capital 'S', so they touched each other and the 'S' was the Mariners' compass logo. Read vertically, the "is" was on the left, and the "our' was on the right.

That's an awesome sign! I absolutely loved his speech. His roast of Jamie Moyer was especially hilarious and endearing.

There's a video of the first time Ichiro came to the US and he was having dinner with Griffey and Ichiro also met Michel Jordan.

Ichiro's admiration for MLB came from Griffey, and he felt it extra when he first met him in 1995.

There's a segment in the Jon Bois documentary on the history of the Seattle Mariners that talks about this. He lays it out as a sort of butterfly effect wherein even though Griffey requested the trade to go home to Cincinatti and left Seattle, he did, in a way, leave the Mariners a gift: Ichiro. He was inspired to join the Mariners because of his admiration of Junior.

Way to honor him and all the Mariner HOF’ers last night with the most unacceptable hitting performance we’ve had to get used to as die hard fans of the cheapest and least competitive front office who’s paying the price for trying to win a World Series with the 6th lowest payroll in baseball by embarrassing every Mariner legend and Mariner community member with performances last night.

We did take 3/4 from Cleveland and now have swept Detroit as we should. Luckily the bats showed up there, but we do need to hit better. Loosing 2/3 against both Texas and Oakland is unacceptable. At least management was willing to spend on Robbie Ray and Luis Castillo and now Julio; they also quietly extended JP. Hopefully they're willing to extend Haniger.
