  • If you fly control line you'll find there is a lack of good info on handles out there.
    I am no expert but though I would share my experience of handle knowledge.
    Also hearing from many new control line flyers who end up flying alone and and wondering what stunts to work on first and how.
    Please check the links below for more info.

      We flew some yesterday. Rudder offset is a topic of discussion these days. Some use no offset in rudder. Line rake and engine offset can do the job. So it goes. Hope you do grab a handle again.

    Got to say that this is just about THE PRIMER for anyone with questions about all this circle turning business. I've checked out several of your videos, but somehow missed this one. It covers all the stuff...with just enough info on each subject to keep it rolling and interesting, and I immediately posted it to my FB page.
    I've often joked that a modeler's field box can tell you at a glance what you need to know about him...from the "Box 'o Stuff"...to the "Operating Room Tray"...to the "Ready-For-Anything with Enough Gear to Almost Build a Plane on the Spot"...(I'm somewhere in the middle!).
    Anyway, thanks again for your work in making these videos!!!!!!!!!

    Interesting observation about the risk of crashing being part of the appeal. At first, just making it around for a full tank is a major accomplishment. Successful stunts add to the excitement. Finally, you tempt fate by seeing how close you can cut it before pulling out. And sometimes, of course, you cut it a bit too close. (A man's got to know his limitations.)

    • @shugemery
      @shugemery  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have found that activities with a good learning curve tend to e the most rewarding. Always tell new control liners to get some epoxy and CA and get used to re-building. And taking apart engines to clean them out after crash. Those limitations get learned eventually. I've reduced my impulse control~~

    Thanks Shug for doing these vids to help tutor us, I wrote to you some time back, and did crash 2 planes and it SUCKED BADLY, just dropped the handle on the second, any way I am still working on it. This vid on handles is good, have 2 that you show, the one that moves the lines closer to center is the one I have to use for the quick response stab. I may not get as good to compete but I like just to go out and have fun, just flying and feel no pressure that I need to do an over head 8 or an outside loop, just good simple flying. Thanks again, hope to get to meet and just fly and share stories with you.

      @@shugemery Here's another question beginners might not think about (like myself). How do you roll the lines back up so when you unwind them again they don't get tangled and kinked up because once they're kinked they're doomed. Right now I have one line on one reel to avoid any of that. It's bad enough that I've been having issues with my planes (balance, etc.) and crashing. I don't need the lines all messed up too. Thanks Shug!

    Hi Shug this is really helpful I am learning new maneuvers at the moment your instructions do give me some direction:) Today I crashed my aeronaut meteor with o.s. la and broke the crankase where the muffler goes while flying inverted. How should I start off flying inverted? by learning an eight first or should I go ahead and fly inverted from an inside loop? Also, I seem to lose a sense of direction when flying above my head and doing the wingovers are there any tips for this?

    • @shugemery
      @shugemery  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try flying at 25, 30, 35, 45° and up as many laps as you can do that will get you used to flying above your head. As far as flying inverted goes I like to stretch out the lazy eights and eventually you’ll be flying inverted before you know it doing it. And remember the more you fly the better you get so burn some gas and build up.

    This maybe a stupid question but why would anyone do this over rc planes? I can't imagine hooking my drones or rc helicopters to strings and just spinning in a circle with them? I'm genuinely interested in why?

    • @shugemery
      @shugemery  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to fly RC and migrated back to control line to learn the stunt pattern. Can see my plane the whole flight. Never far from ground makes it exciting. I like the "feel" of the connection to the plane. Did control line as a kid with my Dad so maybe that is why. Why do we do anything? Something inside moves us too.
