I met Ralph Stanley at a bluegrass festival. He sat at a table, and signed the cds i bought, posed for pictures with us.And he was a nice, nice man.The Stanley Brothers are my favorite bluegrass band.RIP
This is back when Nashville was still a fun family friendly place. I still and always will love the Grand Ole Opry, but man I miss those days when TNN and the Opryland theme park was around. Bill Monroe is one of my all time favorites.
I love it! Ralph. Did the Stanley brothers have the original recording of I know you're married but I love you still? What an idiot! I miss those old shows. Thanks a lot for posting.
Yes, and I remember that at the height of Monroe's career, he had been quick to take offense on those who copied his musical style. This was evident when, in 1948, Dr. Ralph and his older brother Carter Stanley covered Monroe's "Molly and Tenbrooks" and the Rich'r-Tone company had released it before Monroe had released his own version (which he first recorded in 1947) on Columbia Records; this angered Monroe, who then resigned from Columbia for Decca Records after Columbia had signed the Stanleys. He would soon make up with the Stanleys, and when Carter Stanley died in 1966, Monroe was there to sing "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" at his grave; Dr. Ralph did the exact same thing when Monroe himself died in 1996.
One other thing I learned years ago from Bill Monroe is that he would let people audition for playing his music in his band BUT he was like Bob Wills if you couldn’t keep up and slow playing then you were gone no IFs Ands or Buts about it. Which I understand that instrumental players gotta keep up but he just like Bob Wills wouldn’t give second chances. One chance & that was it
@@ClassicTVMan1981X yeah & if I recall Osborn brothers or at least Sonny was with him & left also & Bobby & Sonny made it on their own. A lot of great musicians came out of Bill Monroe & Bob Wills bands along with Stanley Brothers and went on their own way and had some huge hits.
my father Curtis Gardin was on this show years ago bt before that he was also on you can be a star. I attended both live broadcast when I was young. my father just recently past last Wednesday a I can't ask him where the tapes are a I would love to have footage of my legendary father. if anyone can help me I would so appreciate it. thanks a God bless!
Wonder what Bill would think of Billy Strings? The amount of money Billy is bringing to the Bluegrass community is undeniable for the families of guys like Bill,Doc Watson and The boys.
My Dad played in Ralph band also dad and Sammy had a band together my Daddy is Buddy Moore Ralph started calling him Hook n Beans My Name is Debi I live at crum wv
+Ken Berner - No it's Ernie Thacker. He played mandolin for Ralph (approx 1988 - 1990) before taking the guitar/lead vocal slot shortly after this show in 1990.
+Parker Moore If know one else answered your question Parker I noticed Ralph Emory mentioned Margot Smith was making her first appearance in 1990 in heels since her foot operation. Im assuming thats the year this was filmed and broadcast. We need shows and more music like this today

Really miss TNN
Curly Ray Cline is still with Ralph here! I think that’s Ralph Stanley II on the guitar also.
I miss back then, my dad and grandfather and all the old friends from my dads hometown were bluegrass pickers and I grew up emerged in all of this.
Thank you for uploading this
Bill was such an amazing performer even at his advanced age.
Thank you for posting. Super good. Compare what passes
to what passes as so-called country music, this is a blessing.

@@brianhelle7064 The reason Flatt and Scruggs left in 1948 was because they claimed they weren't getting enough money as sidemen.

Tater Tater Tater Tater Tate!
It was my favorite
Not the king the father not the king
Jimmy Martin was and is the king of bluegrass music
WAIT, did Ralph Stanley say he had an 11-year old son? I must have misheard that
🌟 Just asking if you could upload a video of Keith Whitley on this episode of Nashville now

RIP, Margo Smith.

The irony is that she's doing all the work and her name is
Mrs. Hammock !
Well Ricky is a good singer.no mention of his mandolin playing
Is the mandolin player here with Ralph Stanley, Joe Clark?
+Ken Berner - No it's Ernie Thacker. He played mandolin for Ralph (approx 1988 - 1990) before taking the guitar/lead vocal slot shortly after this show in 1990.
They had dancers on the radio?
Who's the singer with Ralph?
Sammy Adkins
Too bad they didn't have eBay back then. They could've gotten a hell of a lot more for that guitar than $4,000 =)
What year was this ????????????
dwayne rogers I heard them say it was 1990.
liked Stanley till he donated a ton of money to Obama, haven't played or listened to him since
"Ralph was rolling a high one" ... Oh, I bet he was!
I like bluegrass music
why is Ralph putting on medical slippers?
Ha, that fiddle player isn't Bill Monroe.
When did this air originally?
+Parker Moore If know one else answered your question Parker I noticed Ralph Emory mentioned Margot Smith was making her first appearance in 1990 in heels since her foot operation. Im assuming thats the year this was filmed and broadcast. We need shows and more music like this today
+Parker Moore - Bluegrass Unlimited mentioned the show in their April 1990 edition, so it probably was aired Feb-March 1990.
Give my love to rose
Tater!!!
