Creativity + elegance + athletic + a hairstyle that has not changed 50 years = Netzer
Netzer: one of the great german football players of all time. Pure talent.
Indeed, however Gunter was a little physically fragile and was more like a 1950's player playing in the 70's. But he never resorted to kicking and always used his skill and was still able to impose himself at international level in a way that Glenn Hoddle, who was a similar type of player couldn't.
⚫⚪🟢
@3:25 His most famous goal of all time. Not only was it amazing, it happened in the cup final vs Cologne. Overath (who was first choice for the national team) vs Netzer (who was only second choice). Netzer was left off the pitch by the coach. With the game tied, Netzer disobeyed the coach and just subbed himself into the game. With virtually his first touch of the game he made this play you see here and decided the game.
You couldn't have chosen better time than now where BMG are leading the title race in Bundesliga!
What a hell of player he was! For me, a Greek fan of AEK Athens and also a lover of the great 70s Gladbach, Gunter Netzer is the absolute Maestro with his bucket, giving the tempo and the tone. Look his outrageous skill for a tall guy like him, how he accelerates, how he uses the outside of the food, his precise long balls. Playing cocky,Dukish, arrogantly! Stylish and dynamic on the same time...
Love him!
He must have an icon in FIFA 21
He was simply a player, who have deserved the number 10
Before pirlo, there was netzer..
Underrated deep playmaker he was..
He wasn't really underrated,he is considered one of the greatest passers and attacking midfielders ever,he had 3 top years in Mg from 70 to 73 winning 2 times the bundesliga and european cup with w germany in 72 , then moved to Real till 76 and won there also 2 times the liga and the copa!his early years weren't so much on the spotlight really from 20 to 25 years old, that was it!you know who was really underrated a guy played in the great team of B Mönchengladbach all throughout the 70s his name is Christian Kulik, top midfield player who in todays donkey football he would be easy one of the best around!
@@pare5markes909 yes super player
For me better than Platini and Zidane .
Better dribbling .
More power .
@@patrickgillard6666 if Carlos Valderama had played in Europe you could reconsider. However Netzer wasn't better than Zidane.
@@Rorynes i think valderrama played in france.
@@Danjobeth Indeed I didn't remember it.But anyway he played for a little.
I am ashamed to admit that I had only heard of Netzer before stumbling upon this video, but never actually seen footage of him. My God, he's a fantastic player. It's...It's like watching Pirlo with these diagonal balls with a splash of Platini when he wants to go forward. It's beautiful! 😭
One of the all-time greats. Super underrated, perhaps because Beckenbauer didn't like him. He should win the Ballon d'Or in 1972, he was Germany's best player in the Euro
..Hallo, Beckenbauer and Netzer respected each other, at that time it was only a sporting competition, as did Netzer and Overath, who also was a very great player, greetings from Germany⚽
Now that's a midfielder of the highest calibre. What a player.
In 1973 my grandparents took a flight to Argentina. On the plane was a football team and I remember my grandpa saying the manager knew only one German word: Netzer
I see many people are comparing him with Pirlo... But Pirlo only wished he had the dribbling ability of Netzer.
And his speed
He looks a lot like Laudrup with those great passes
3:23 Copa 1973
The right amount of absence makes presence effective.
90 minutes on the bench.
His mother died a week earlier.
The last game for Gladbach before his move to Real.
After 90 minutes before extra time, he tells his coach Weisweiler, who deliberately ignored him:
"I'll play now!"
and goes on the pitch.
4min later: Golato!
Iconic, heroically!
And it was against Cologne, Gladbach's main rival
Terrific. The most dominant midfielder in the football history.
Fussballnostalgie pur.
Meier Armin amazing player
He was Best playmaker one of the best midfielders of all time, his long passes and pushes from deep within his own half of the pitch. Apart from his superior ball skills, his natural authority made him the undisputed leader of his team. As a player for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Perfect Video as always your are my favourite youtuber matigolvidz.
Remind me Pirlo
Fantastic footballer. First I've seen him. If you like him then you must watch Glenn Hoddle. Another truly wonderful playmaker.
@Lloyd Gittens Absolutely right. It's subjective. I couldn't say who is the greatest. There are too many great player's in the past and present who could be tagged to be the best.
He was amazing
Lloyd Gittens Stfu. Don’t hate. It’s okay to call Glenn Hoddle or Paul Gascogne the best init.
The first true "star" in terms of lifestyle and presence in Germany
That’s still Georgie Best
@@akshay1021994 wasn't aware of the fact that best was an German Icon
Netzer the great with the fantastic music of Santa Esmeralda.
That is called a magnificent fusion. ❤
Best beginning for a video ever XD
That’s what u call a number 10 wow 😲
El diez clásico
Well now that position no longer exists due to so what called "TOTAL FOOTBALL"
Borussia Mönchengladbach legend🙌🏽
Μost atractive football in the 70s and 80s!beautiful team!
Am not Madrid but he is a Madrid one too
You guys win, Im sick of Bayern and Dortmund
Bioando Angelo👌👍
Er ist einfach nur eine lebende Legende! Was für ein geiler Spieler! Und was für eine Persönlichkeit!
Den No was amazing
Overath vs Netzer who is best?
Grande
Weird that Id never heard of Netzer before. Wow what a player. Powerful running combined with elegance. Watching him dribble by people at pace is a joy. Everyone else seems to be a level slower then him. He bossed it.
Germany so many great midfielders over the years.
Netzer, Matthaeus, Overath, Schuster, Kroos etc etc
I consider myself lucky that I could watch him play in Mönchengladbach the season before he left for Real Madrid. If there has ever been a genius on a football ground, it is Günter Netzer. He had all the intellect to anticipate each move and the technical skill to make a 40 mtrs pass that would arrive exactly on the foot of a striker. And when he decided to take the ball into the opponents' penalty area, he was by no means sluggish but accelerated to get past anyone. And, of course, the goals he scored are legendary.
Probably the best and most complete football player Germany has ever had.
The Kaiser was slightly better.
Another gem by the great Matigol.
Netzer was really one of the best European players ever
If Gunter Netzer and Wolfgang Overath would have played together in 1974 what a Duo it would have been
Physically was a Beast..you see how was difficult to take away the ball From Hom..He was fast to pass the ball..Amazing playmaking..
Magnifique
La grande équipe d’Allemagne !
Autre chose que celle d’aujourd’hui
Very underrated for the great west germany team of the 1970s
Great video!
Him and Gerhard Delling were the most dangerous duo of all time! 🙌🏻
Haha
One of the best players I've seen. Would have graced any of the best international teams of today or yesteryear.
He played in green sometimes, but not for Ireland, unfortunately. We would have invented an Irish grandmother for him. Lol
Isaac Hunt he was amazing
I only generally seen him play for Germany and was mesmerized back then by his speed strength skill and passing ability often on pitches todays professionals would moan about playing on plus the game was much harder and physical then and plenty fast enough so dont let todays experts tell you the game is quicker now its played on virtual bowling greens so it's an illusion. I salute Gunter netzer a unique player.
Fist time I saw him absolutely destroyed England at old Wembley Stadium Germany wore their green strip he was unplayable
Edward McGuigan what a player one of the best
Yes 1972 destroyed them!
old folks like me, who'd seen him many times recognize he was absolute world class; very much favored the magical outside of the foot splitting pass to his teammates as well as scoring some fantastic goals himself; yet he was a back up to wolfgang overath in'74
rakoczi29 awesome
amazing best 10 number Germany ever had respect from Sakartvelo
Incredible ball skills and acceleration..
Finally the music was appropriate
Nice video!
Unbelievable. Its Matigol so obviously its the best Gunter Nertzer video I've ever seen. Why isn't this guy as famous as Cruyff and Beckenbauer?
His peak was shorter. And his national career was a little disappointing - Schön didn't like him and preferred a more disciplined Overath over him... which, in my opinion, was a mistake. West Germany side that won 1972 Euros was absolutely breathtaking - and while two years later they've won the World Cup, it wasn't the same dominant attacking side that swept away everything that stood in front of it. The difference? Netzer. It's not surprising that 1972 Ballon d'Or list looked like this - Beckenbauer 81 points; Netzer 79 points; Müller 79 points.
And in general, his club teams were overshadowed by his contemporaries. Borussia Mönchengladbach was arguably the best German team of the 70's, but Beckenbauer's Bayern won 3 European Cups and it's all that people remember now. Real Madrid won 2 La Ligas and a couple of Cups with Netzer, but people were too fascinated with Johan Cruyff's impact at Barcelona.
@@HarmsFootball + Netzer did'nt have a free role to fit in the system of Germany
@@HarmsFootball This is the impact of local competition between Bayern vs Monchengladbach. In World Cup 1974, many more Bayern players are selected into the national team
Thanks Matigol, in 70s we only know Muller and Beckenbaeur, you gave the other great player from germany
Gran jugador,se extrañan estos grandes jugadores.
Good German player. If He was playing this days, in pro football, He undoubtedly, would be a super ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
From Madrid...Gunter Torero forever¡¡¡....Hero in Real Madrid with Breitner¡¡¡¡
Exactly
He once substituted himself against the will of his manager and scored the decisive goal a few minutes later for winning the german cup in 1973 against their biggest rivals, cologne FC☝️
Goal shown at 3.30.
Story half true. In his own bio he said that he didn't play because his transfer to real was fix.
But in halftime the coach wanted to put him in, but he himself denied.
Then in extra time he saw his exhausted teammates and stood up the bench, while the whole crowd was sceaming his name. He came on the pitch and scored.
he looks like a more athletic version of Tony Kroos: elegant, exceptional vision of the pitch, a complete baller.
I have bought myself a present Real Madrid shirt and put his name on the back, because in the actual team there is no player like him, although Modric is a real beast too.
Those who say the old school German teams didn't play attractive football had obviously never watched Gunther Netzer.
or Franz Beckenbauer or Wolfgang Overath or Gerd Müller.....
Gu! very skilled indeed!
Great great middfielder !
pare5 markes amazing
I don't regret subscribe to your channel. You doing a excellent job.
Amazing player!!! Seems south American !!! Also successful as HSV manager ( won ECL in 1983)
In the 60s and 70s Germany had a lot of creative offensive players they are just not well known. For example Stan Libuda, The Kremers brothers, Abramczik were really good.
I just thought the same. A little bit like Valderrama😉. But with no links to Escobar😂
Germany had a lot of flair players in 1970s. Beckenbauer, Netzer, Overath, Grabowski, Heinz Flohe, Willie Lippens, Hansi Muller, Magath, Volkert. Such were the times) In following decades such players disappeared all of a sudden so reform was needed in late 90s and now Germans again have plenty of flair players coming from academies.
@@robertwill23 biut they had more those years...more talented...
An absolute legendary Player!
1 Gunter.. 2 Fernando Redondo..3 Kross...Big Real Madrid¡¡¡¡

Ciccio Gargaglione awesome player
0:08 left down in the image. That guy in the suit and yellow shirt... is he Ronnie Peterson, the Formula 1 driver? if not, he's his doppelganger. WOW
Don't mean to take anything away from Netzer, but at 3:39, that's the Cologne equalizer against Mönchengladbach in the famous german '73 Cup Final, scored by a certain Herbert Neumann.
Simply Splendid ☘🕶👍🇮🇪🍺🥃One my Hero's
Bro can you make video on edison cavani when he played for napoli in serie a he was absolutely beast striker .
If only all footballers were like Gunter Netzer......
He was a beast👌👌👌

Is fernando redondo playing attacking midfield in the 70s. Great player netzer.
Günter Netzer for fifa 21 Icon, he was Stunning and a true 10.
Love your video

Nick Coletti amazing
One of the forgotten ...
Potenza e velocità 👍

Fantastic player. Helmut Schön should have been able to find him a bigger role in the 1974 World Cup. That was a big big shame.
Peter Hammer awesome
This second song in 11 min is amazing - anybody know title?

I am glad that everyone can see power of media.Netzer,Breitner,Mueller did the job for W.Germany but all credit goes to Kaizer. He is alfa and omega for german football.Did he really deserve that?
Dont worry in Germany those you mentioned are and were praised as the greats they have been.
Great player...i liked very much in youth
Michael Ballack, Paul Breitner o Karl Heinz Rummenigge please
