- A bō (棒), pong (Korean), pang (Cantonese), bang (Mandarin),[1][2] or kun (Okinawan). Bō are typically around 1.8 m (71 in) long, being adopted into Okinawan and Japanese arts called bōjutsu. Other staff-related weapons are the jō, which is 1.2 m (47 in) long, and the hanbō (half bō), which is 90 cm (35 in) long.

Ha. Yes. We ran out of individual bo to use for every person, so a few had to "shadowbox" with their bokken. Each person does get a bo to use as soon as participants are broken off into pairs to practice (all of the training you don't see on film), in between stopping class to instruct. That spinning would obviously not work with a blade.
