it's the first Mario Game I bought with my own money. At the time, I only owned an NES and I was born during the SNES era. I wasn't allowed to own any other console because space. Not to mention, finding games were hard since Retro Stores weren't a thing were I lived at the time. I bought it alongside Mario 2 which I actually wanted to play in a flee market. I didn't want Mario 3 because of the cover. It looked bland and yellow was my least favourite colour (I was a kid.). And I am glad the owner convinced me to buy it and for pretty cheap at the time. When I got home, you have to realize how my perception changed. Mario 3 was unlike any game I played thus far. I played Mario 1, Nintendo World Championship, Tetris, Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout, Donkey Kong 1 and 2. Non of them were as vast in content as Mario 3. Secrets like in the first Super Mario Game existed and they were more than ever. I loved reading the manuel trying to discover all the enemies and trying out all the various power ups. It is also the very first Mario Game I beat myself without seeing anyone play it first or looking a playthrough. It took me years, but that made it so more satisfying. Beating Bowser and his Children the Koopalings were a real challenge. And I didn't know about the flute that skipped levels. Yes, even to this date, I am still discovering secrets about the game. Yes, nostalgia plays a big factor in this one. And canonically, the Koopalings aren't even King Koopa's children because Mario 3 is a screenplay. Without the doubt, it is my favorite Mario game of all times and maybe even my favorite game of all times.
