Some other things I have read from the other comment sections,
    - There’s several clues throughout the show that hint 001 is 456’s father. When 456 refuses to drink regular milk, 001 says his son hated milk too. On October 24, 001 says his son’s birthday is coming soon. 456 birthday is Oct 31. During the marble game 001 says he lived in a similar neighbourhood, 456 says so did he.The door of the house where 001 gets “killed” at is the same as 456’s mother’s house.
    - There was a foreshadow for player 456 as well. When he returned, he was tied up and player 67 was with him. He swore on his mother's life for player 67 to untie him then broke it. When he won the games, he returned to his mother having passed away
    - The 7th game was played on the 7th floor between the old man and the protagonist and unknowingly the protagonist becomes the VIP as they are betting on an innocent man's life
    - In the first horse race, the horse 6 won it from the horse 8 where the finalist numbers were 45(6) & 21(8)

Another small detail that I’ve not seen posted anywhere online:
In episode 2 when Jun-Ho enters In-Ho’s abandoned apartment, we can see the apartment is small and modeled exactly like the rooms the masked workers sleep in on the island - from desk location, to the bed. This shows that In-Ho more than likely became a worker after winning the games in 2015 and wanted to stay in an apartment modeled after their rooms on the island. He probably then worked his way up to become the Front Man. I also believe he is the first and only Front Man.

I felt like Gi-huns motivation was being compared to the horses. It was their choice to go back in but it was the fact that there are people betting and watching the games and making a sport out of people's deaths, deaths that hit Gi-hun really hard. Precisely. To the rich people, the player's struggles and even their lives were nothing more than a Saturday night's entertainment. We saw this trait of his earlier in ddakji game where Gi-hun was offended after being slapped that he genuinely forgot about the money, he just wanted to win and get back at the guy. But that was on a much lower scale, in which he decided he could give up one revenge slap for that money. During Marbles, Ji-yeong calms down Sae-byeok by getting her to agree to delay their marble game until the last minute, as the outcome would be the same, and it would give them time to speak. During this conversation, they share their backstories with one another, and Ji-yeong mentions the famous actor Lee Byung-hun (StormShadow). While this can be dismissed as just a random pop culture reference, no other famous figure is referenced throughout the show. Moreover, the best K-dramas are known for using famous faces for cameo roles, such as how Squid Game’s recruiter, The Salesman, is played by Gong Yoo of Train to Busan, Coffee Prince, and Goblin. In addition, while Lee Byung-hun is listed in the official cast, he hasn’t made an appearance prior to the mention of his name in the series, suggesting that he could be one of the faces behind the Squid Game masks.

There is so much clue that foreshadows that, Gi-hun is the old man's son.
    1. The neighbourhood they play marbles, Gihun also states his childhood neighbourhood was also similar to this place.
    2. The old man wanted to play the games with his son but only watched all these times. This time he played with GI hun.
    3. Gi hun hates milk and asks for chocolate milk. The old man says you must have got beatings from your parents. Gi hun questions how did he know and the old man replies, My son hates milk too and I used to beat him for this.
    4. Gi hun's bday is 26th april ( for the atm pin, he puts 0426 and states it as his bday) and the old man during marble asks if it's 24th today and says my son's bday is coming up, I need to get him a gift.
    5. This game was secretly pushing Gi hun to win, because the old man wanted his son to win and take it over. He died before explaining. That is why he passes the 001 to Gi hun. And Gi hun's number is the last number because the 1st no and last no 456 is distinct and easy to identify by others.
    6. He was also explaining that playing with Gi hun brought so many old memories back and died before finishing what he was saying.
    7. The big one: Gi hun's mom's name in her debit card is 'OH' mal soon. And the old man's name is 'OH' Il Nam. Her first name is same as the old man's name.j

I think the reason behind Gi-Hun's anger was the method Game provides. Hear me out.
There are people who provide money to other poor people for smuggling drugs and to kill or abduct.
While the people who do it, do it on account of their own accord it is still wrong. It's taking advantage of someone's vulnerability.
I agree the protagonist doesn't have anything alternative to this but place yourself into his shoes.
His whole life is destroyed. His Mom, his friends are all gone. His soul which was a joyful one was tarnished and he saw good people like his friend turn Evil all influenced by Money which was lured by this organization.
Look at shows like caught at the airport where people get busted for carrying drugs. They regret this and confess they all did this for money and how people took advantage of their vulnerability. This is what Gi-Hun is going to destroy. Maybe he will come up with an alternative to this in the process.

I think Gi Hun's motivation as to end the game once and for all is to stop the killing of people for the entertainment of a few wealthy people altogether. I get that Jaby is trying to say that the game provides alternative to people who seem like they have no hope at life anymore, but Gi Hun doesn't have to provide another alternative to all those potential players. He's just a character who sees the killing as morally wrong. And he sees the fact that people are being used as "horses" in a horseracing betting game like Squid Game as morally wrong. Gi Hun isn't going to end capitalism nor the problems of debt. If for example, instead of the game involving people risking their lives in order to get money, it's a game involving people getting mutilated or sexually exploited for the pleasure of some sick rich men, would it not make sense to stop the game from occurring again because it's still ethically wrong?
Those people who enter the games are all manipulated into thinking that they have a fair chance, when they don't. Even as audiences, we're unsure of whether more than one people can walk away with the price money until the latter stages, just like the contestants. I don't understand Jaby's gripe with Gi Hun's motivation to simply end the game, because to me, the game is horrifying enough such that nobody should have to go through that even if they volunteered, because nobody who volunteered knew the extent of how horrible the games would carry on, despite witnessing the first game. Gi Hun was one of them. He thought the risk was worth it. But he saw it with his own eyes how inhumanely horrible the games escalated till the very end. And even when he won it all, he walked out of it more empty and traumatised than ever before. He doesn't want to wish it for anyone else. That to me, seems like a powerful enough motivation to want to simply end the Squid Games altogether.

I just want to put one more clue that il Nam knew everything: Before the game of marbles, while getting their partners il Nam did not choose any partners because he knew that he could continue without doing the game, so he did not participate at all ( but everyone thinks that he is old to be picked so he just sat at the corner).
This also is the reason why he calls Gi Hun his Gganbu I believe, since he partnered with him and wanted lost to Gi Hun..

There is also another deep theory I read somewhere that Il Naam is father of Gi Hun. In his dying moments he lured him into this game to straighten him out. Maybe he was watching him all his life. This theory is a stretch but its backed by 1. we never see Gi hun's father's picture in his house or anywhere. 2. When Gi Hun asks for chocolate milk, Il Nam chuckles and says his son was fond of chocolate milk too. 3. He gives fatherly advice and lives his dream of playing all the games with his son and also helps him win the marbles game. 4. In his dying moments he arranges meeting with him and no other person. The frontman only comes when he dies because he is like a second son to him.
Like I said, its a stretch but this theory can easily be weaved into season 2 as another twist.

Gi Hun's rage and him standing up to the game is him regaining agency. Something he didn't have when he entered the game, even moreso the 2nd time.
It happens too often in our society, that people in vulnerable positions "willingly" sign up for these shitty opportunities. Instead of compassion and guidance for such desperate individuals, our society is full of squid games to take full advantage of them. And I feel this show is an allegory of that reality

The foreshadowing was the biggest surprise to me, followed by the games on the wall.
The flaw with "Everyone chose to come back" made that decision under duress and most importantly *unaware that other competitors could kill them outside the game, in their sleep.*
There is no justification. Justification is what Il-nam used to try and not feel guilty about all the murder. The type of duress the players were under I'd argue is the same type of duress people go through when they plead guilty to crimes they never committed because police manipulation.

I feel Gi Hun also had a shift in his view about the game the further it went, too. He joined to win (part of) the prize, like every other contestant. But due to the bonds he made, by the end he would have been willing to give up the prize and vote to leave the game with Sae Byeok, if it meant saving her life, which was why Sang Woo killed her. And of course at the very end, he wanted Sang Woo to leave the game with him too. The contestants didn't go in knowing there would only be one winner. Otherwise that husband and wife couple wouldn't have joined together. Based on Round 1, everyone had a chance. Either way I feel like the way it all turned out helped Gi Hun realize how beyond depraved the whole game is, including that it is all gambling for the sick rich people.
I also disagree that Gi Hun is better off after winning the game. He helped out Sae Byeok's brother, and Sang Woo's mom, but he himself is forever traumatized. There are things worse than death.

During the first two episodes I kept telling my boyfriend that something was off about the old man. Especially during the scene in episode 2 when they are eating the Ramen. I just couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something sinister behind his smile. But as I continued through the episodes and watched Gi-hun befriend him I couldn’t help but develop a protective affection for him as well. The dementia scenes in particular pulled on my heart strings because both of my grandmothers suffered from dementia too.
Needless to say I felt strangely vindicated and betrayed at the same time in the end.

New to the channel and really enjoying the reactions. Keep up the good work! @Jaby, regarding your questions as to why Gi-Hun held such animosity toward the game, I think the point the show is presenting through Gi-Hun's point of view is that, notwithstanding that participation in the games was voluntary, and was thus a choice made with free will, that free will was manipulated by presenting an inherently immoral choice. I think one of the show's main themes is forcing the audience (through the characters) to grapple with the question of whether it is truly free will or whether it is truly a moral choice. When Gi-Hun and others choose to return to the game in ep. 2, I think they are, in a sense, seeming to agree with Il-Nam and those running the game that the answer is "yes." I think his experiences and where his character falls by the end of the show personify the opposite answer. And we, the viewers, are left to debate which side makes the most sense in circumstances where, as portrayed in episode 2, real life is best described as "hell," but the alternative is perhaps even more hellish.

When Oh Il-Nam (001) cries out in the flashy murder brawl I took it as him shouting to the other players. That would change after the pee pants incident because I did catch the bottle of water being there and I thought it was very strange that he even had a bottle of water because they didn't show anyone else with that bottle, I don't even remember food scene for that night. That sus water bottle made me think back to see if I could thinking of anything strange and the way he was standing on the beds and the way the camera focused on him makes me thing he was counting heads as if too many were surviving and "stop the madness" was actually him shouting "mission accomplished".
Also we don't see our boy Ali die, the circumstance of his death and his death both Mirror that of Oh Il-Nam (001), they both got cheated, the camera cuts before the shot and it cuts to the facial reaction of the person that cheated them.

It's personal. Extremely personal. It's less about social justice and more about personal vengeance. That's what it is. Like all those action films where hero's vengeance/revenge against impossible or improbable opponents is shown and achieved. Here the probability of achieving is too low and impossible to imagine but that doesn't stop him.
Guilt and regret are powerful emotions. These prey on us for years on end. When one loses someone (or a few), especially a parent for whom one was never there, and least of all during the last painful days, that guilt and regret can eat you up. All other sense of responsibility, be it to others or even oneself, takes a backseat. And time is irrelevant here. Because that pain lasts a lifetime. As long as you are living, it continues to live in you. He still isn't over it. He saw some sense only when his gganbu nudged him to action. Because the act of someone helping that drunk man and the old man's revelation triggered his own sense of responsibility.
As someone who has undergone the traumatic experience, as can be seen in several of the war veterans suffering from PTSD, it becomes extremely difficult and always a constant lifelong struggle to get "back into society". There are several documentaries that show just how difficult it can be, even for those who have a loving family to come back home to. In fact, there are groups that are dedicated to veterans to help keep themselves from falling through the cracks. Suicides among those returning from wars are testament to the gravity of the issue. There are many who have become a staunch critic of war post serving in one.
At the sight of the new recruitment, everything gets triggered and the illusion that he had build of having a possible "healthy" relationship with his daughter, who is already part of a more stable family setting, falls apart. That he thought he could easily forget the experiences he had gone through, makes him filled with rage at what he has become and those responsible for it. His choice to turn back and decide to bring down the people responsible for the game is first and foremost a personal mission. The frivolous manipulation and playing with people's lives, having suffered himself like a race horse, is another. While he says that he is not a horse but a human, he has the blinders on, solely focused on bringing those people down.
Outside of the games, the risks are already there in life and the choices we make, but everyone always has some kind of "free will". That ounce of free will is whatever little "control" that they have left in their lives. The game takes even that away by manipulation and coercing choices they might not have made at all in real life.
He had always chosen to or veered towards leaving the game several times, from the first vote and then when the girl gets injured and at the last game. He had seen what it was doing to him and wanted out, without a care about the money, because by then, the money became irrelevant to him in comparison to the damage he was suffering.
Also, the task/mission gives him a purpose. He could try and be a good dad but he'd still not have his daughter or a family because she already has a family setting without him in it. He could have taken care of his mother but she's no more. So, this impossible task gives him a purpose, adds some kind of meaning to his life that feels empty to him.

7:52 Night time brawl: I think that ties in with the guards being executed when the one in black says that they are all equal in the game. He as inventor doesn`t mind people dying, but he wants them to die during the games and not during what is probably an unscheduled brawl. It is not "fair" as in a brawl he most violent/aggressive/physical ones just kill weaker people while during the game the odds are much are even. The ones watching find joy not just in death, but in death during the games. Else they would just have the players kill each other in a giant brawl

Till the first game people were not allowed to kill each other over the night. It felt like there were some rules laid to protect the players in between the games but as soon as they "allowed" players to sabotage each other was what got our main character angry and also there is the aspect of human trafficking, everyone knew after the revelation what actually happened to those dead bodies and In-ho(ig the main guard) himself said they don't care if they sell organs according to him the game just needs to be "just".

Did you know, they’re not actually red? Even looking at the soundtrack, they’re called “Pink Soldiers”.

I thought maybe my tv settings were off because they looked pink to me, not red!

The thing is they didn’t put up front that there will only be 1 winner. Ppl who choose to go back thought they will have higher chance to win portion of the money. If they know there will only have 1 winner, and the rest will die, I will think many will not go back to the win after the 1st round.

They didn’t explicitly say it but they did say at the beginning of episode 2 that there would be 100 million per player and when asked how much the total prize money would be they said ‘as there is 456 players the prize total will be 45.6 billion’. I know a lot of players didn’t pick up on that because it wasn’t explicitly said but I definitely did and assumed the whole way through that only one person could win and I’m sure maybe some other players did too

The manipulation and allure of having "a way out" is the part of the game that truly wrong about the game. The lottery is extremely manipulative and only justified by society because of the government funding coming from it and its "only money" a person is risking. Sure you have your rights to either play or not play but actually WINNING is essentially impossible(imagine being the first in line of the glass stepping game every time you buy a lotto ticket). And thus you have desperate people blowing loads of money(for them) on this "hope" of a way out of their horrible life. Now imagine those people at the lotto are risking their lives instead of just a dollar. So question yourself: Is it morally justifiable to give people false hope through manipulation just because people have free will to refuse?
And this is not even getting into how gambling addiction factors into all of it.
"Where is his animosity coming from"
If you see a dying person on the street do you snap their neck or do you try to save them in spite of knowing that they are very likely dying regardless. THAT is the difference. You dont take advantage of weak people and cover your atrocities by saying "well they had a choice". A desperate weak and dying person has no choices, you are projecting that onto them. Does a poor person steal because they want to? Or do they steal because if they dont their family will starve? Gi Hun very clearly sees the difference and would throw away his happiness and his life to put a stop to the continued massacres. He realizes its his responsibility because HE survived and all the others who died around him didnt have the luxury of attempting to take down this organization.

Yeah his logic is extremely flawed. With his logic anyone could come up with any horrible "solution" to a bigger societal problem and as long as there is no better alternative it's fine to continue to do that horrible "solution" regardless of how morally wrong it is. You could justify all sorts of atrocities with this.

Snap neck...save them... prime opportunity to have used what happened to Sae-byeok as a reference. 😉 slice their neck, or save them.

I need an explanation where we saw that this game is being played since 1999, that means many people were being killed. But how is it possible that no one filed complaint to the police for their relative going missing and no one in the world knew that there is some suspicious thing going where people are going missing all of a sudden.

In Ho becomes the Host, Gi Hun becomes the front man. Somewhere, somehow Jun Ho still alive and got into this again because of his brother.... And a lot new CHARACTERS!!!! S2 FTW! Though I'm still hoping for Sae Byeok and Ali. 😢

I hope we will have more detail on red team in season 2, maybe a prequel. It can be total new cast too since we need more co-star.

Another thing about the tug-of-war is that, even if Il-Nam was cuffed to the rope, his cuff didn't have any padlocks on them, unlike the other players...

Actually some parts of squid game gave me vibes of movie escape room it's somehow same
In escape room also they have to do tasks and whoever fails to do so gets killed and even the ending in escape room the girl and the man goes to face off and to destroy the escape room company and same happens in squid game too 🙌
