@@lockvalleyfarms981 The film is about the 1954 shearers' strike. It was made in 1975 and starred Jack Thompson. It depicts the life of shearers in outback Australia and has hilarious scenes in it including a dispute over the quality of food prepared by the cook, the strained relationship between the shearers and the station owner, and a brilliant driving scene where Jack Thompson rolls an old FX Holden. I might be wrong about this but I think it might have been filmed in outback South Australia.
Thanks Henry. Always a pleasure to hear from you. The barley looks amazing. Faba beans have heaps of potential as well. Follow up rain would be a blessing. Cheers.
My Father was a Shearing Contractor back in 1950s to 1970s and I would go to the sheds with him in the School Holidays and the rule of no women in the sheds was still very much in force, they would stop work immediately if it happened, mind you it didn't take much to start a strike in those days. Ever heard the Shearers Wife's lament? Friday Night too tired Saturday night too drunk Sunday too far away
Yes our area is very frost prone. We luckily get spared 9/10 times where we are. We're very lucky generally, for some reason it doesn't settle on our country very often. Other farmers in our area suffer with it almost every year.
Great video. I appreciate the effort in the editing with the door opening etc. It really adds to the chronological order of things. The shearing was great and thanks to the shearers and roustabouts for being good sports.
Interesting to see the sheep shearing, I have a distant relative, who was a sheep Shearer, back in the late 1800s, early 1900s, Neil McGinity, Known as the Boss Shearer, He and his crew shore sheep ,from Vic, NSW, and southern Qld , He married my Great Grandfathers sister, He was a well known Shearer in his day, Cheers Bevan from Sapphire Central Queensland 🤠❤️🇦🇺
Great video with the shearing! As a kid growing up in the Wimmera in the ‘80’s, I spent many September school holidays being a rouse-a-bout doing everything other than shearing. I quickly learnt how much I hated shearing time. Sheep are so dumb and annoying! I much preferred driving the tractor putting in the crop.
Nice to see your crops getting along so well. You can use bassagran on your fababeans to knock out the mustard. By the looks of the size of that mustard at least 2 liters to a hectare. Its always tough harvesting beans with mustard in the mix. Im in the same boat as you are about love for the sheep. But they will enjoy whats left of the fababean field when youre done harvesting. Great video once again mate.
Great episode Henry. Looking good at the moment but as you said not a ripper crop until it’s in the bin. Hopefully there was enough rain to drown the mice
G'day Henry. Awsome that you filmed some shearing. Compared to other videos I have seen, this shearing crew was quite gentile with the sheep. What did your wife say about the interwiew? I think I watched her answer 8 times, I still did not catch what she said. Hope you get some video of the dogs at work some time. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Nice 👌
I really enjoy your videos. It's good to see some videos from our country. Thanks

It won't stop raining at the moment... absolutely unreal! We're pretty well at total saturation now.

Friday Night too tired
Saturday night too drunk
Sunday too far away
Do you guys suffer from spring frosts during flowering? It is the single biggest yield constraint in the southern mallee in good years.

Yes, they are a very good bunch of shearers.
I told her that I still need to do an interview with her and she said she still has to approve it 😅
