- An aggressive dog, trying to attack other people and other dogs is no joke. Aggressive dog training can be dangerous and you have to make sure you deal with it properly and safely. Here is a young beautiful south African Mastiff better knows as a Boerboel. He does go after people and dogs BUT you have to find out the why? Wish my friend putbull could get the help like this... He reacts to every dog or any animal in general wants to go after them starts to cry yelp constantly.. Get so stressed out and chatters his teeth 😫 I have to avoid other dogs during walks... I can only think it's because he does not have backyard and just has so much energy built up😔😔

Yup. Even after an attack by a pit bull my neighbors across the street still let their dogs run loose.
Maybe dont be so nervous mate....Dog are sensitive for this. If you will take the situation calmly, your dog will be fine. And the other thing. If you have a dog like that ( the big and brave one ) you need to work hard on your mentality
@@vaclavp1738 I get what you’re saying but it’s not my fault if loose dogs run up to me and my dog. I’ve worked with dogs my whole life and been involved with many dog fights lol. I’m not nervous walking my dog but no I don’t want a dog fight to start. Also just irresponsible of owners to let their dogs run out at us they could get hit by a car if not bit by the other dog.

Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
Hearing about good intentioned owners putting all their trust into trainers and then finding out the trainers are just garbage and then their dog’s problems get WORSE is always heartbreaking. 😢 I’m glad they found a behavioral trainer that is actually knowledgeable and good hearted
Yeah..any “boarding trainer” that takes your money to give your dog rashes and bedsores should be sued into complete shutdown..

I know it was heartbreaking hearing what the other trainers did and surprised this sweet strong dog didn’t display abusive reactions. This trainer is so good!
When I first started to watch the video I just assumed that the owners had no idea what they were doing with a dog like that. I am so sorry for that assumption. They had him super well trained with his basic obedience. And she didn't even let him get ahead on the heel either. Major props to this couple for doing everything they could.

Dude they’re having the literal exact same problems as me😭😭like my german shepherd is trained excellently at basic obedience & can follow several commands, we’ve spent well over $700+ on training for him but it seems no matter what we do he’s still mean😭
As a 20+ year trainer that had Real SA Boerboels for the same amount of time, this guy actually did really well working the Breed. The Only Problem here are the owners don't understand how to work this breed. Good job bro
Alot of owners are clueless, some don't know they need sufficient exercise both physically and mentally and people are to soft and let their emotions guide them most of the time, especially when it comes to smaller breeds.
Can't say ive met any well behaved dog under 6lbs, maby my neighbours toy poodle and have spent time with a pomeranian that was closer to a dust bunny than a actual dog.
What's it like being a trainer?
I have seen and heard of the Reputation of this Big Mastiffs and I don’t believe there are BAD Dogs, just Under Qualified Owners. Some Folks think that They Need a dog for Protection within considering how much time and experience is needed to get to that point. Obviously the Owners haven’t done the necessary Homework in researching, seeing Other Boerboels in action, and most importantly don’t realize that this is not a Labrador or Poodle. Although the dog is very obedient, He’s learned that He’s the Alpha. True enough the Trainer can handle him become of his vast experience, but these Folks don’t have a clue. The dog is talking to them but they can’t hear. Unfortunately this is the reason so many beautiful Animals are put down or sent to the Shelters. Not because the dog is mean or aggressive, but because it wasn’t shown it’s Limitations and instructed through Love, Patience, and Socializing that not Everyone is going to hurt it’s Family Member. I enjoyed watching this.Training has come a long way since the Shock treatment, and the beatings.
They learned and never gave up on him.

What I love about these videos is how willing the owners are to be responsible for their own mistakes and how they can help the dog 💕
The owners should have researched this breed of dog and brought it up properly in the first place. Regardless of this training session this mastiff cannot be fully trusted. Early socialisation and training of this breed is essential. Once it gets past a certain point you cannot trust it. They need training, socialising and leadership from 8 weeks old. I have owned this breed of dog for 20 plus years. Trying to retrain an adult bullmastiff is nearly impossible. At some point it will revert just for a moment to it’s previous bad behaviour and possibly hurt someone. If you own a bullmastiff and have to put a muzzle on it because of its upbringing then it will always need to wear a muzzle.

@@rootedorganically4911 so many people don't really realize that dog owners need to be trained to handle the dog just as much as the doggo. You never have to hit or abuse the dog. The hand should be a good thing. I feel people whom abuse dogs make the doggo kinda resent them and want to rebel more and they don't look to the person like a pack leader.

The part where he explains that her behavior is signalling "I'm nervous, protect me" is a critical point. She unintentionally transmits a signal to the dog that it's go time, and his DNA kicks in. I'm happy they found a good trainer, and l wish them all the success with their boy.

This is in Montana, there are always loose dogs in their yards. Yes, loose dogs are a problem and people come out here and think since they live in the country or forest that their dogs stay home and do not need a fence or kennel or any type of containment for their dogs. Dogs will chase livestock, kill livestock, or wildlife. But look at the reaction of the owner, the dog knew those dogs were out in the yard before they were seen by the owner. As soon as she saw the dogs she was excited, nervous, and totally reactive. The dog sensed that and started spooling up by the time the loose dog was getting closer panic set in the owner and the dog reacted because the owner was out of control. Fear is a huge factor. I live in Montana In Libby Montana you want to carry bear spray.

Yep, this kind of people want to hide how badly trained their dogs are and that they don't respond to a recall, that's why they don't even try to call them🙈...but in most cases, they're also the ones that scream the loudest when their dogs get bit.
This one got me so emotional. Thank god for the owners to get Tom out there. They truly love their dog. Cooper now will have a longer life because of them being responsible dog owners.

having been a dog trainer for the past 43 + years, and specializing in helping last chance dogs for the last 17 years, I can say, "GOOD JOB"
Right? One of the few cases a shock collar is the right tool. They are being forbidden now in the Netherlands but I feel like this is why (and only then) a shock collar could be used: if it is the only way to snap a (powerful) dog out of a (powerful) stimulus. If redirection does not work and the dog is this strong (or has a huge pain threshold) if this is a way for the dog to snap out of it, fast and sucessfull if done right, I think it is worth it. Like a slap in the face. Not for torture but to help you. This dog was actually really into obedience.
I got a question for you.. I have a Rottweiler/Lab Mix that barks aggressively at strangers who come through the front door of my house. She nipped at my friends elbow (not hard) but its starting to concern me. She seems to be getting territorial as she gets older. any ideas on what to do?

@@user-us5sn5hr5t You say that like its an 'easy peasy works for all cases solution'. Not all dogs are food oriented and if they are hyped up, food wont break through the stress and they wont take it anyway. Also presenting a hyped up dog with a treat can worsen the behavior while what you want to do is reward positive behavior. Not all dogs should be trained with a shock collar, not all dogs can be redirected with food (nor do all situations call for the same solution). What I liked in this vid is that he breaks down why a shock (or vibrating) collar is used. And how (when used well) you will not have to use it twice (or you can quickly turn down the strenght of the shock). You do it to get a certain dog (high pain tolerance, high stubborness, high prey drive) out of a hyper mindset in a particular situation, and build up with positive reinforcement from there.
I would never put a shock collar on a shy, fear agressive dog. I wouldnt put one on a dog that has never been trained (how can you punish when there are no rules set yet). Its when you know the dog has the tools to listen, but it is overtaken by bad conditioning and just wont.
She was way more polite to the loose dog owners than I would be 😆

Exellent. Be in tune with your animal. So many people don't understand that their behavior is what is giving their dogs cues. Owner thinking: There's another dog, I'm scared. Cooper: Don't worry I'll protect you. Later this becomes: "My human needs other dogs to stay away." That in itself is training, but it's the wrong training done unconsciously by the owner. Good call.

@@crittaable prong collar dosen't mean anything. That dog was still reacting whilst having the prong collar on (as the owners said). It's how you use the prong collar.

Owner's response - Cooper is our sweet Boerboel who developed reactive behavior towards people and dogs. We made the mistake of choosing bad trainers. We were feeling confused about the various training advise with no improvement. We discovered Tom Davis’s Upstate Canine Academy and arranged an out of state visit.
We were impressed with the individual evaluation and plan developed for us and Cooper. Based on our skill set and Cooper’s response, the plan was adjusted verses just being told the standard instructions. In addition, we greatly appreciated how Tom simplified the training and communication with Cooper, the last trainer taught a more complex military style which was counterproductive. Tom’s knowledge about the equipment, e-collar and prong collar is impressive and very helpful. Tom took the time to explain why Cooper was reacting the way he was. He also explained how Cooper perceives the world, and example is putting Cooper in a down position with people are around him, this puts Cooper in a vulnerable position. Lastly, Tom was honest about Cooper and our limitations, that’s the only thing that doesn’t really come across in the video. We adjusted our goals with Cooper he is much more relaxed overall. He is playing, loving, and interacting with our new English Lab puppy.
We recommend using Upstate canine Academy for all your training needs and GREATLY THANK Tom for his help.

I have a Spanish mastiff and she's even bigger than Cooper. We have a very close relationship, but at the end of the day she knows that she's stronger than me - and if she wants to chase that cat, she will. I have tried using an e-collar on vibrate mode, but I can't press the button when I'm being dragged along! I have literally just bought a prong collar, I have no idea if it will work. I think I'm about the same age as you, it makes me wonder if it's just a bad idea to get a mastiff when you can't physically control it. There is an element of danger. I'm actually recovering from a broken wrist after she ran into me by accident, and this makes taking her on a lead almost impossible now. I'm lucky we live in the hills and forests, and I can exercise her off lead without many distractions. I wish you both all the best. :o)

@@wendydee3007 Prongs control my GSD who I assume is much larger than Cooper(cooper looks to be on the smaller side for a boerboel). He's 138lbs. However, if your dog can physically over power you, it's not the breed for you. I'm a 300lbs man.
@@ConnorLipke I'm feeling quite positive at the moment. My broken arm is recovering, and my dog is settling down too. She's only 14 months old and has just had her first heat, and she seems less excitable now. We took her into town at the weekend, with just a normal collar, and she was fine, even through a busy main square with lots of other dogs and people. I do agree that people should be able to physically control their dogs. But for me now, my dog and I are so bonded, I wouldn't consider rehoming her unless her behaviour changed for the worse.

Boerbols are not for the average dog owner. They take a strong, confident person committed to training. Do your research before you purchase any breed.
I think they had the best intentions and then something didn’t click with the vet, they were fine and would have continued to be fine if they went to the right dog trainer the first time. I mean there’s not much you can do when you trust a person to help you and they shove your dog in a crate for 20hours a day until after the fact.

Absolutely. These owners, had to put in a lot of work because they don't have the characteristics that the dog would respect. That dog needs to know who the fuck is boss but also the owner needs to allow him to be a dog. Also lots of play is good. All and all though, the owners did alright.
I have two boerboels or "boerboelle" as we call them here in ZA. This is generally the behaviour at that age, but you need a firm hand. My dogs have a purpose, guarding. Good dogs, build for protection.
I got 2 mins into the video and wonder why they chose this breed? From what they want out of this dog, they should have chose a golden or lab... 😒

Nah men you dont get it, dogs become like that because they aren’t let having contact with othee dogs and humans and then they are fully charged with energy and curiosity. If this dog would have been used to contact with other dogs by having it without a leash since it was a puppy then it wouldnt be any problem and the dog would not react like that to other dogs and humans. So in my opinion leashes are really bad for a dog, as you dominate it and it doesnt get to be a dog… But anyways as many people dont know how to handle dogs, they assume without a leash the dog would do what they want but that isn’t the case if you trained it well since a puppy… In this case i assume it is a bit late to let it have contact as the damage has already been done…

I just found this video and it literally has me crying. I have been struggling with my ACD since she was a puppy. Almost exactly the same issues as Cooper. This gave me a lot of missing pieces and more importantly hope that i can help her through her reactivity. Thank you Tom!

It's almost always the owners who need the training not the dogs. Dogs just feed off of their owner's energy and character or lack of leadership.

The dog senses that his owners are not strong so he feels he has to take charge. They chose the wrong breed for their age and fitness level.

I have a 125lb dog we are his fourth home. I can’t let my grandkids visit at all. As soon as this two year old dog felt comfortable in our home, he decided he needed to protect us from everyone. I’m glad to see this video, he’s never off our property, but looks like getting him off the property may help. I’ll try anything. Thank you for the help.

I adore this breed! Got one in Africa for protection and he saved our lives literally on 2 occasions. Never needed a second of training. Fantastic family dog and incredibly instinctively protective. I'm happy this couple stuck with him out of his element.

@@donutperson9027 I was walking out of my veranda at night (it is very Dark in Africa) I walked a bit out of our veranda and onto the grass when I heard something swishing in the grass coming towards me. I was frozen, didn't know what it was, just frozen. Then out of nowhere my dog (who was a puppy at the time) ran and jumped into the darkness in front of me. That unfroze me and I ran back into the house slammed down the bar and pushed the panic button.
About 10 minutes later the security guys were calling me through the window and told me it was safe and to come outside. They led me to a place several feet from where I was standing just minutes before. A man with a machete lying next to him was lying on the grass with his throat completely ripped up. He was just gurgling. The guys put him in the back of their wagon and I hear he died that night in jail. Not a scratch on my pup btw.
The other story was being stuck in traffic and 2 men were trying to bash my widows in for a car jacking. Baily was full sized by then. The pounding woke him up and he went nuts on them. Never saw two people run so fast in my life.
Only thing I would say about this breed is if you live in the burbs or city you better know what you're doing. This dog needs room and lots of exercise and exposure to life.

Boerbuls were originally bred in Southern Africa (from English mastiffs) to provide protection to farmers from lions. Living in SA they are well known for particularly protecting children and being intensely loyal/protective to 'their family'. Commonly weighing 90kg (200lbs) or more, they are popular home protection pets. They are also very affectionate, and think they are lap dogs! This is a beautiful example of how to deal with them.👍👍👍

Not necessarily overweight. Boerbuls, English Mastiffs & some other giant breeds can regularly get over 90kgs! Fully fit & not overweight.

My mastiff is 200 pounds and he was the runt of the litter. His dad was 250.
I always said, If you allow your dog to run after other dogs, offleash, do not get upset when your dog gets bit.
Always, always have your dog on a leash, until it's safe to let them interact
I have a dog and situation very similar to this. I just got back from my bad walk with my dog and was trying to figure out why when I came across the video and you touched on some fantastic points making me realize how I could have helped him and what I could have done better.

Exactly. Choosing the right breed to fit your age, strength, fitness, lifestyle, social life matters. This couple should be responsible and find a better home for this dog.

Had a Siberian Husky was the same. Within 2 months of strong leadership he never needed a leash again. He wouldn't leave the circle of influence around my wife and kids without my approval.
I have a pack of huskies! I love walking them together. Malamutes are a little bigger but nice dogs 🐕
Huskies are about as smart as they get , and I think makes it easier to frustrate them because they are probably smarter than us. It's hard to fly like an eagle when your walking with TURKEYS right ? Lol 😆

This is a great video, one of my dogs is leash reactive towards other dogs and every now and then to certain people. Great tips on how to work on myself with the way I react and how my dog reacts to my emotions.
Protective instinct is so strong in these dogs, one really needs to be confident to have one. He's a typical boerboel and there's absolute nothing wrong with him. Issue is the clueless owners didn't know what they're getting and how to handle him. Seems they wanted a boerboel to be a labradoodle or golden. Respect to them for not giving up though and hope they learn how to handle him over the next year or two, 'cos he's looks like a real specimen...beautiful dog.
You're on the money but the thing is that they can't physically handle this breed, they should've never got this breed to begin with. Anyone who can't physically control a specific breed if anything were to happen should not have that breed.
They seriously have no business owning this breed. There is nothing wrong with the dog, like you said they got a Boerboel and think it’s a Golden retriever 😂.

I agree with you but also some people try to treat certain breeds like children and end up in situations like this one or even worse because of there lack of knowledge towards to breed of dog they are trying to adopt/own

This is by far the best training video out here! I have to say all my years of owning dogs and your training has engaged me to do this and very patient and on the spot traing ever, and its true with the owners and this is what Kaycee-girl was doing with us is protecting us from all dogs and was acting aggressive but never bit once reached or better yet off her lease in her yard and I became afraid of all dogs ready to attack and she was picking up on my energy, No Bad Dog Army you guys rock! Thank you for this reminder of the energy we put out there and how receptive our dogs are to it! She is getting this training and it's a beautiful thing! Thank you, Brenda & Kaycee-girl
"where are those motherfers" had me cracking up. This guy is great and the owners are fantastic owners. Dogs can feel when you tense up and then will react like ok what's up and go into a protective mode.

30 years of dog training...99% of the time its the owner. They stress that travels down the leash, therefore your dog stresses. Almost always the handler. Good stuff brother. New subscriber.
when you get into dominant breeds it's just the dogs nature to want to dominate and destroy other animals "on their turf". yes it's the owners fault, womans built like a stacked up cottage cheese and shouldn't be trying to control a ball of muscle. it's important not to overlook the dogs nature. get that woman a golden doodle and things will probably be fine.
This video gave me a huge sense of relief. My dog isn’t aggressive but is very reactive and very protective of us. I’ve been having trouble figuring out how to keep him still alert but calm around others
This is honestly incredible. I don't have a reactive dog, but I can see how easy it would be to create a reactive dog by accident. I love watching these videos, keep em coming!

Copper absolutely needed soft caring training, especially after what he’s been through!! And he shines like a rockstar! Obviously he learned as well he’s met many new friends that understand! Humans need trained by animals honestly.

I HATE the "it's alright he's friendly" types who allow their off leash dogs to charge people and other dogs. Then they stroll over like the concerned owner is the one overreacting.
The second your dog took off on you we can safely assume...
1. The dog has bad manners.
2. The dog has an owner who lacks even basic critical thinking skills.

I was blown by other dog owners lack of concern when I would take my reactive bulldog out. I would many times have to tell people not to get any closer to my growling , lunging bulldog! And it was equally frustrating when I would have to pick up my 60lb dog because there is this little yapper at our feet off leash , and I didn’t want to see it eaten in one ferocious gulp. I know we all make mistakes , but we should at least possess some level of common sense.
@@ShyDog827 There is always a certain apathy in the response from owners who don't see the danger in this. Yes, everyone makes mistakes from time to time but it's easy to see the difference in the owners response.

I hate people that bring their reactive dog amongst lots of well adjusted dogs and expect to be treated specially. If you bring a dangerous dog into these situations, you're not free from blame.
This is great information. I just got an 11-month-old Boerboel that weighs 150 pounds and has minor behavior issues (I've had him for less than a week). I believe this video will help tremendously. He already knows commands. He's very stubborn at times, but reacts great with treats. I will implement what I've learned during this video in our training. This was...EVERYTHING! Probably the best video I've seen on how to focus on relationship FIRST, teach owner/handlers what they're contributing to the situation, and then teach them simple and easily repeated ways to create structure and clarity, using the right tools at the right setting for the dog. Bravo, @tomdavis! Superb video.
My family fostered dogs who didn't qualify for adoption due to aggressive behaviors and honestly there was never a dog we couldn't make progress with over time with consistency. Dogs want so badly to be good and be praised and loved. Solid training with consistency and can help any dog, and they deserve to live and be happy.
Thank you for always expressing so much compassion, that is something severely missing from so many conversations about animals with aggressive behaviors.

Absolutely 100% agree. I’m VERY careful not to react in a significant way to other dogs or people with my English mastiff puppy. Always aware and cautious, but also always relaxed.

What you experienced with those dogs coming out of that property, is literally what I go through on almost every single training walk with my two shepherd-X's. People here don't pay one bit of attention to on-leash laws, which makes behavior modification really tough. I can't safely walk them in any public space.
That's why I typically carry Halt spray with me

Actually my youngest shepherd would just bark and the dogs would run back to their property. While he is bit the leader but the warrior he seems to have a lot of authority in telling off dogs that need training.
@@MisakiBlossom Oh I wish! Here in Cape Town, I’d estimate that at least 85% of dogs are off lead, regardless of whether the area allows it or not. People here just don’t care about the rules, laws or anyone else’s inconvenience. Reporting them would be absolutely useless. Firstly because there are so many of them and secondly, because our law enforcement cares even less. The very last thing they’d bother to do anything about is dogs off lead.

Great video!! I have a 2+ year old English Mastiff who is reactive at times and can get protective. We've been thru multiple classes and 1 on 1 trainers which have helped... but this video has some great pointers and tips on how to do better for him and myself and wife when taking him out. Adding in the buzz/zap training collar along w/the our pinch collar and appropriate commands and staying calm was a great tip that I'm going to try. Thanks for all you do!
These videos are getting better and better! The longer format helps really identify with the emotions and results of Tom's powerful training. I get teary-eyed when you see and feel the relief of the owners that these situations are fixable!

i got so frustrated when the neighbors dog or whatever were offleash and running towards cooper and they didnt even do a damn thing about it. she said “please get your dog” way too many times for them to not do shit.
Sometimes if owners walk to get their dog the dog thinks there owner is backing them up and coming with them toward the other dog .the dog will move more forward if it knows the owners coming forward too.

@@sharroon7574 yet you should always ask if the contact is ok. You never know, the other dog might be in simple training, the dog might be injured and shouldn't run, the dog might be sick, maybe simply doesn't like other dogs come running when leashed. This can get dangerous so quickly
This. This. This! There are two dogs in our neighborhood who are just constantly loose. The owners know it and they're not outside with the dog. Aside from risking your dog getting hit, I believe that ANY dog who is on a leashed walk could get ticked off and defensive.
I have some neighbors whose Golden Retrievers always run out of the house off leash and they also run across the street. One time they did it and decided to play with someone’s pit bull. It got aggressive and the owners of the Goldens kicked the pit bull in the chest. She got bit in the leg. They were all stupid because their dogs were off leash.
Seeing the progress everyone made gave me a big happy feeling! I have cats but I learn a lot from these videos. I just found your channel today & learning more helps prepare me for when my husband eventually gets that dog he’s always wanted. I’m the one that’s gonna deal with it mostly. Lol

Working dogs in the wrong hands why do all people get pits, dogos, presas, boerboels ect if they don't need them for work or at least put in the work. Working dogs aren't a fancy accessoire for an occasional walk in the park.

When the couple, wife moreso, walked the dog they walked him like a weapon or a ticking 💣 .. When U walked the dog, the dog relaxed bc he was like finally, "Don't have to work. I can just be a dog." I feel for the dog.

Dogs don’t think that way. They go based on how the dog was trained and their perception of their surroundings. This isn’t a small breed, this is a large dog in the hands of owners who have gone through many trainers and in the hands of owners who can’t control their dog. Most people can’t afford trainers like this, so breeds like this should be banned.
To many people are buying dogs for their "looks" most people have no business with dogs like Presas or Boerbols

Loved this episode. Big fan of big dogs and hate to see when “trainers” and boot camps do more damage than good. Would never send my dogs to someone to be “trained” as training involves the humans almost more than the canines. It’s basically learning to communicate with your animal.
Was cheering by the end of the show- great job and great job explaining to the humans what Cooper was reacting to and what he needed. So many dogs get labeled as problem dogs when they are only doing what the owners unknowingly are miscommunications to them.

Another great video, with solid advice, thank you very much. Although I have some good experience, had GSDs for many years, my current GSD (my first rescue) has been a serious challenge (was re-homed three times). There was no way I would give up on this loving, caring, girl. Had three professional trainers work with me on her reactivity and agression towards humans and other animals, to no avail. Watching your videos made me pick up on some of my mistakes as well learning things I didn't know about. It brought my confidence back and my girl is better than ever. Thank you.

Felt so bad for the Boerbol and the owners experience with camps and other trainers but clearly this couple did not understand the breed they purchased.
I am absolutely livid hearing about the experiences these poor people had with other dog trainers. I hear the craziest things over here too. I'm glad to see there are some good ones left!

Amazing job! You and the owners care and persistence saved that beautiful boys life. People get duped into thinking all dog trainers are equal. You have to do just as much if not more homework into researching trainers as you do when getting a dog. Bravo!
That dog's a terrible golden retriever. He is however a EXCELLENT Boerbel. Like of course he gets protective when your scared. I'm Glad they finally got to a trainer that understands that breed.

as a boerboel owner she was never friendly with other dogs and we recently had a baby in the family and she has become aggressive with every single random person now
As a ex South African (lives in the US now) who owned two Boerboels (on a farm- that is important, since they want to guard, they are not house dogs) they can be incredibly protective/aggressive and then again as sweet as pie with the people they know. I don't want to be on their business end though. What people don't seem to understand is that Boerboels were bred for an aggressive purpose. My experience were that they (Boerboel) can be very domineering since they are huge. One of my Boerboels actually killed his best friend (a smaller mix) since the Boerboel thought that he deserved the mix's food. Lovely dogs for the right purpose. Watch their weight ...they tend to get "thick around the middle" . Unfortunately both of my Boerboels were killed by puffadders. I found that very odd since my Jack Russells were also bitten by puffadders and survived.
Your best mix on a South African farm is a Jack Russell and a Boerboel. The one is the ears and the other one cleans up (the plumber) ,while the ears (Jack Russell) does his best to punch above his weight. Don't expect the Boerboel to win every time the two of them gets into a friendly scrap though. Those Jack Russells are from the devil. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is also a super dog.

I’ve never had a problem with a dog in my life, and I really appreciated watching someone who truly loves the animal, and sees it for what it is. It’s incredible seeing what you did with that dog. How you took what he was saying and thinking and we’re able to manage commands with a situation. Really impressive. It’s almost as if you speak dog. We can see that you understand what dogs are thinking and why they behave the way they do.
That was amazing how you dropped the treat and said leave it and he did. That’s really tough to get a dog to do. I know he’s gonna be just fine, seems like the owners where just saying the wrong words and reacting scared to every encounter. He’s there protector so he sensed that

I've recommended your channel to a lot of Pet owners that I know have dogs with behavioral issues. Those pet owners never trained & socialized their puppies & always kept them chained into a corner. Some of them at least admitted their mistakes & are now seeking expert help
