  • Hi and welcome to this video in which I take look at the Garmin G1000, particularly the default X-Plane 11 version.
I start with an overview of the system as a whole before moving onto some flying demonstrations.
It's a very capable piece of equipment, as it is in the real world, but this is hopefully useful for the sim community out there.

I had just finished watching "Part 1" which ended around 45:00, and I thought, "Wouldn't having an index of topics and times be extremely helpful?" And then I scrolled down to the comments and saw your post. That took a lot of work on both your part as well as flightsim481. Thanks to both of you. Very much appreciated.

Thank you for this! You have covered so many interesting functions and included valuable real world experienced pilot practical perspective. This is my initial look at the G1000 as all my previous simming was with the G530. I just purchased the Carenado TBM which has the G1000. It will be a while before I do any planned flights with it, but your video has been very helpful as an introduction and will be a great reference to return to.

As I work toward IFR i really appreciate the full presentation of the key knowledge involved - both for the sim and fuller use of G1000 capabilities using IFR route/plates. Walk through of manual flight plan set up from the cockpit was of particular interest. Thank you. Well done.

Hi Richard, I’ve had X Plane since 2017 and the G1000 since it was added, but I didn’t use it because I found it confusing, however thanks to your video I am now giving it a try, I still find that it is not as intuitive as say the Flight Factor A320 FMC but I like a challenge. Thank you once again for a very informative tutorial.

Just thought I'd mention that PFD is Primary Flight Display (not Pilot's display) and DTK is Desired Track (not Direct Track). And ETE is Estimated Time Enroute not Estimated Time of Arrival, which is a different thing.

I'm very new to this and really enjoyed the lesson. Concise and clear without unnecessary banter. I have a question, I followed on my sim but then I couldn't turn off the Auto Pilot. How do you turn it off?

Thanks for the g1000 tutorial. I’m really new to xplane. How do you get your aircraft to be positioned at FBO, etc. and not on runway, 3 miles or 10 miles out that the default sets as options? Thank you

Do these charts come with the default 172 or are you using Naviplan? Love the video btw. Just what I was looking for.

Looking for challenging airport? Here it is: LSZA, in southern Switzerland.
It has a steep, 6.65° straight-in ILS approach and two 5.4° and 4.4° ILS approaches with break-offs followed by circling visual approaches in a narrow valley. The runway has a length of about 900 m suitable for regional turboprop airliners, executive jets and general aviation airplanes. The magnificent region is surrounded by 3 lakes. Aerosoft has a specific scenery for LSZA which comes for free with their X-Plane DVD distribution or which they sell separately on their site but which the X-Plane store also sells.
I look forward for a video on a LSZA approach from a pro like you, perhaps with the same C172/G1000 settings ;-)

Awesome Tutorial...Thank You! Is there a way on the X-Plane 1000 to program a HOLD at a specified fix? I was on Vatsim and they asked me to hold at a fix but I could not figure out how to program it (unlike the default Xplane fmc). I see there is a pre-programmed hold for a missed approach but can one be programmed?

hi quick question,,,u normally type departure airport. then wypoint around the route,,,,not sid or star then after the route you type final destination.
or you tyoe the departure airport, normally it detects where the plane is, then after the slash on the top of the fpl page you tyoe your destination and then on the bottom part of the fpl pafge you add your waypoints, im some kind confused here,,,,if i type for example a star in the destination point, some waypoints of the star are added to the first part of the fpl page, including the final destination and then after that in the bottom part of the fpl page after destination waypoint of the star appear.
Its like after my destination the star appear insted of before ....hope u get it,,,fms planning hurts with g1000 i guess , im in between

I have one question on VNav... to start the descent you said you have to turn the alt knob? I still don’t get it and I try to do it following your route and your step by step and still will not descend.
