JT, I appreciate and cannot recommend your channel enough to my fellow football fans. My question today is this; can you better explain how the quarterback can "feel" the backside or blindside pressure? Is this truly just muscle memory and how an internal clock feels for the quarterback? Is there a combination of reading the defense and expecting pressure from the blindside? Is this anticipation just coming from experience of play or can it be trained? Thank you.

Hey I know this was posted way back 4 yrs ago, but I watch a lot of J.T.'s videos, and I'd bet he'd say it depends on the protection call. If the backside is blocked up and there's no danger of a 4th rusher coming from that side, you should be able to drop back and make your read if nothing hot is coming front side. If you don't have the backside blocked up, that's where you gotta have that internal clock because if someone is coming that's not accounted for (a 4th rusher), the ball's gotta come out.

Hey JT perfect timing with this video. I recently found your channel and your videos on Stick, Drive, short post. I don't 'coach' but I do coach my son who's a high school quarterback and I found these videos excellent tools for him. Thanks for the content, keep it up.

Thank you for the reply JT! Leadership, is in my opinion, the most important quality in any walk of life - we look for leaders every day, whether our parents, our superiors at work or the face of the franchise in a two minute drive.
You butchered my name (Vee-tour), but I’ll forgive you! Happy holidays to you and the family brother
PS: I meant to ask what got you into the leadership learning curve, it’s one thing leading a locker room, another thing altogether persevering through uni work and writing a dissertation

@@TheQBSchool Oh think of it more as the learning curve than the execution. A lot of- make your pre snap reads, if the defense looks this way, think these two options. Post snap- if this, then that, down the line from cover 0-1-2. Hated it then. Miss it now. Thanks again for the content. Def subscribing for more.

Hey JT, could you make a breakdown of Tom Brady this season. Everyone wants to dog him right now but I don't see it. He can still deliver the football with velocity and accuracy but it seems like his receivers outside of Edelman can't win their one on ones. Defenses are literally bracketing Edelman and leaving no one in the hole, just wondering why McDaniels doesn't run more traffic to spring the other guys open against press man.

Yo JT, love your videos. What made you want to start a TH-cam channel and deal with an audience where you’d have to explain the game in a very elementary and fundamental level? Is it the money? Is it just a passion for teaching and for the game? Keep up the good work. You’ve taught me so much

Hey JT. Love everything you're putting out. I've been telling all my friends what a great channel this is.
QBs are often critiqued on their leadership ability, including what some to believe is their inherent ability to inspire the other 10 guys in the huddle. When you're looking at draft classes, you'll inevitably see a QB's leadership ability be critiqued. However, this seems to ignore that these are grown men and I couldn't imagine a situation where, if i'm a 30-year old lineman, that I need to look to my rookie QB for leadership in the huddle or locker room. What is your opinion on that kind of criticism? Have you seen or heard of a locker room where the QB may not necessarily be a leader, but at the very least gets their job done?

  • @txtmstrjoe

Hello JT. Love the channel. I remember your time as a 49er (big Niners fan).
My question has to do with Wide Receivers and how they are designated. Particularly in the West Coast Offense system, there seems to be a specific set of requirements for the X (split end), the Z (flanker), and the Zebra/Eagle men (WR3 and WR4). Could you describe how a coaching staff designates which receiver plays which role? Do these roles change sometimes, depending on criteria like field position, formation, and position groups?
Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Hey JT, thanks a bunch for doing this! Is there any way you could do a similar video to this, but one that talks about the implications of wide hashes in high school. It seems like MOFO doesn't really apply because the field safety in a 2 high look is mostly in the middle of the field. Also the limited room into the boundary has major implications as well. We have had success treating #3 to the field as essentially #2 to the boundary, as he can get to that boundary third of the field very easily. We are still developing those ideas though.

Love this show - understanding the 'nuance and detail' 😉 really does enhance the enjoyment of the game. Minor criticism of this Q&A format is that it's hard to picture what you mean without the diagrams. Appreciate that's more work, and certainly wouldn't want you to reduce content but having not played the game, I need the X's and O's in order to get it.

JT what do you mean when you say “middle field closed” or “middle field open”?

    • @Boog1137
      @Boog1137 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

MOFC (middle-of the field closed) and MOFO refer to how the safeties are playing. Stuff like Cover 2 or 4 where you have two safeties with deep half or quarters responsibilities, leaves a lot of open space in that middle seam. This is middle of the field open. Whereas a cover 3, cover 1 might have their safety in the middle or closer to the middle than in other coverages, so this space in this seam would be closed. Hence, middle of the field closed. This informs pretty much everything you do in the passing game. Theres undoubtedly more nuance that someone like JT would be much more knowledgeable of than I but thats the basic idea
