I see three game categories here. First is twitchy shooters getting 150++++ fps, which doesn't really matter, since DP 1.4 is capped at 144Hz at this resolution afaik. The second is demanding titles at which 4090 *almost* gets 120 fps. Third - extreme ones, in which it barely breaks 60. Looks like we're not there yet. At least not for ultrawide gang :)

Ultrawide FTW.. cant imagine myself ever going back to 16:9. But its kind of disheartening to see even mighty 4090 at this res dip below 60. Im glad i didnt go for a 4k monitor. I did get a rx6900xt for 700, can play anything above 60, tho without RT of course. Id love to enable RT, price of 4090 is just insane, and seeing as even the best gpu rn can dip below 60, you cant help but wonder what some next AAA titles will do to it. There is upscalers and this shit, but F that.
I don't think we need to max out the 4090 right away. If I have a non 4k monitor, I will have a bit of headroom to max out future games natively for a year or two perhaps.
used to play a lot games in 1440p with a 2070 super. DLSS is a bless for older gens but keep in mind in the majority of games many of theirs graphic settings haven't designed properly for actual cost vs image quality in terms of trade of. For example if you test some settings in RDR2 they almost give nothing on visual effect for the fps cost. So even if you have a low or high end card there's always the chance that graphics settings are not optimized properly.
@@ConstantieE Yup, it's also what der Bauer mentioned. DLSS Quality has gotten to the point where you have to pixel peep in most games to tell the difference from native but it nets you lower power use and higher FPS. People DESPERATELY want these expensive products to be awful in someway to justify the story they have in their heads about them.
Depends on the game - f.e. CP 2077 & Control without frame generation still not there for solid 4k 120hz Overall it is a 4k card, so yes - an overkill for 1440p.
@@Mustang1984 Kind of, but not really: It's 8.2 million vs 4.9 million pixels == 1.67x difference between them. It's less than comparing UHD vs HD (2x), but still not insignificant.
@@Superb_Legendthat is completely dependent on the CPU bottlenecking. This happens in open world games quite often. It's not a GPU problem in the few games you see dropping frames here. It's actually rather the CPU
CP 2077 at absolute max with no DLSS and it’s 57 avg fps? Wow that’s very playable. How’s turning on DLSS? Even quality or balanced would improve it to maybe 70-80.
I have a 4080, and at 3440x1440, CP2077 absolute max runs at 70-80 on DLSS quality. So, I imagine the 4090 is even better. Why would I get a 4080 you ask? Due to a misfortunate event with my old PC (lightning hitting a tree just outside the house, causing damaged electronics in the house, and covered by homeowners insurance) the 4080 became the "upgrade." Would have preferred the 4090 (that was the plan) but other expenditures involved with the lightning damage, plus the insurer covering "like for like" replacements, ends our story with a 4080. On the upside, it also meant a new CPU, hello 13900k. On the downside, still had to pay a deductible. All that said, the 4080 is a good card at 21:9, most games easily hit the 120 refresh rate of my AW3418DW. It's also the FE card, which has the same heatsink as the 4090, so the card runs cool, and quiet (temps are usually in the low 60's). The frequency is rock steady.
Can't put myself to think that RTX 4090 can't even reach solid 200fps on any game that ist Doom Eternal. Having a 32:9 monitor, will last another decade before Nvidia or AMD release a GPU that can reach 240fps on all games

Bingo. Get performance so the gap between average and 1% lows is small, and try to get the 1% low as close to the max refresh of your display as possible. It leads to a beautifully eerie smooth gameplay experience.
on a i7 9700k and 3080 10G I get average of 70 FPS in far cry 6 on this resolution. I'd've expected you to have more on an AMD+DDR5+4090 for Far Cry 6...
with almost the same setup, (7950x3d / rog strix 4090 / rog strix x670e-e gaming / ddr5 6000mhz cl30) i get over 180/200 fps on cyberpunk with rt ultra i tthink some of the numbers are off for some reason , including forza horizon where i get over 200 fps all day long at a 3440x1440 resolution. Maybe is it the screen recorder software ?
I can see some tearing on Spiderman benchmark , is your monitor has low refresh rate or without VRR sync?
His monitor has G-Sync Ultimate
If you're talking about dlss 3 there will be tearing, since he is using frame generation
Buying the 4090 to max my experience with my Alienware OLED
Thank you so much for this, it is so helpful for us , the users with UW displays and literally no reviewer does UW benchmarks unfrotunately, not even the most reputable ones.
Youre a godsent, thank you. I just bought an rtx 4090 to replace my rtx 3080ti since it started to show its age especially with new titles that use RT effects. I chose the prettiest 4090 of them all, the Vulcan OC-V from colorful or galax SG 1-Click OC. The AORUS MASTER 24G from gigabyte aint too bad either.
Honestly I think having a 240hz 1440p monitor and a 120Hz 4k OLED TV is the best set up for a 4090
go asus ips 32 4k 144hz
dont go lower than 32", 1440 is fine, personally would just go for 4k 32 60hz if im on 'budget'
@@iikatinggangsengii2471 luvin that pg32uqx !!
Honestly would be interested in seeing a DLSDR × 2.25 version of this benchmark.
thats the way!
I just pulled the trigger on the AW3423DW. Was really thinking 4k was the way to go for the 4090 but seeing the performance at 3440 x 1440, this makes me think this resolution is going to be preferable moving into the future. Games are only going to get more impressive and more taxing.
How is it working out for you so far my man? im rocking the same resolution and love it on my 3090 but wasnt sure if i should get a 4090 for StarField safety
I love it. OLED is amazing and the HDR is really spectacular. The 4090 is a bit overkill for games like call of duty but single player games like Jedi Survivor and Hogwarts are incredible on this display. Zero regrets so far
@@grantmitchel2810 dude you gotta try the 45 inch 3440x1440 XENEON OLED sitting next to my 34" it makes it look TINY
@@grantmitchel2810 this is your 3 months since reply! How is it going? I'm looking to pair with my 4090 as its on sale on Dell's site.
Ultrawide is the best way for gaming. Have a 3080 and will buy a 4090 when i get one.
not best for gaming beyond 45-55" monitor sizes the sweetspot reverts back to 16:9 at bigger sizes
Thought after watching this video, i was not going To get a 4090...halfway the video i ordered one....
Seems To be the sweetspot for 100 hz 3440 gaming.
Finally....
Who needs 4k or more
Just what we wanted to see now do a 3840x1600
Yeah that would be interesting, plus perfect for that res.
What would the performance hit be on a 32:9 monitor, i wonder?
just got a 4090 and finally giving up my LG34GN850 Ultrawide and going for a 32 inch 4k !
Go for 42 inch 4k OLED 120hz LG
Can’t wait to get a 4090 and play all those games I’ve wanted to but my current gpu struggles in ultrawide with. Thank you for uploading this
What you got? I got a 2070 super right now.
I’m planning on getting a top of the line 4090 machine with the new Samsung 49 inch qd oled monitor that’s coming out. I’m also gonna have two extra 25 inch 240hz monitors.
@@andrewfossesca6875 When I posted that, I had a 1080Ti. I found a 3080Ti for 500 so I went with that. Guess I'll wait for the 5000 series now.
Love the clips it’s crazy that I picked up the 13900k and my numbers are like 20-45% higher then my 7950x with the 4090 not sure why maybe my ram it’s 6400 but good video
Are these all without dlss? Framerates seem too low at that resolution for rtx 4090, I wonder how much we get at 3840x1600
At least not for ultrawide gang :)
just bought a 4090 and a 21:9 monitor. Nice to see hopw my card will perform!
It's time to retest 4090 in ultrawide. So many new games came out.
Nice Finally a review with a 21:9 resolution GOD thank you missing part warzone 2 in ur vid hahaha... Kind of weird for me without DLSS on certain game hard time hitting 144fps... and it's paired with a 5900x prob a fresh install of Windows might help
Crazy to think the 4090 can barely push some 3440x1440 games to 60 fps. Currently on a 3080, I might upgrade.... I might wait for the next generation. Who am I kidding? I'll upgrade.
Not really, 3440x1440p is more than midway between 1080p and 4k, 2560x1440 numbers would have been 25% higher
thank you for this video I have the same CG the same screen, I'm just waiting for the rest of the pieces to take advantage of the monster 4090;)
Does IDKFA or IQQDQ still work for doom? Haha
I have 5120x1440p samsung odyssey 49” gsync 240hz 1ms and i put mu big thank you when anyone show me new 4090 bench game on that resolution.. 3440x1440p is easily beatable over 100fps in all game by 3080ti..
Specs monitor? Send me link
Nice job! Irks me when some behave as if performance at 1080p is the only thing that matters. I guess we have 3440p until ultrawide 4k becomes a thing.
I don't think it's overkill, I think its the perfect way to play. Meationing the AW 34 Oled with 175hz
Great vid man! cant wait to get mine, would love to see Battlefield 2042 with DLSS on then off, Apex Legends, Metro exodus, RDR2
Well DLSS and frame generation will only become more common as time goes on. Makes no sense to not use them to gain higher frame rates.
16:9 becomes better than 21:9 only after 21:9 goes beyond 45-55" monitor sizes which become too big wide but not tall enough
Is there any 16: 10 ratio monitor with 144 hz?
I don't think we need to max out the 4090 right away. If I have a non 4k monitor, I will have a bit of headroom to max out future games natively for a year or two perhaps.
What is the best monitor curved 1440p *3440
Alienware qd-oled
45 inch XENEON OLED
im tempted too buy a new monitor and get a 1440p ultrawide but idk if my 2080ti will handle games in that rez anyone got any pointers ?
It will be fine for games in that resolution, a 2080 TI is still a very good card. I used mine at 1440p before getting a 3090.
used to play a lot games in 1440p with a 2070 super.
@@ConstantieE understandable thank you
Is the perfect GPU for our Alienware QDLELd setup. Best monitor around by far BTW ;)
We need somthing faster if we want ti use all the Hz of our AW3423DWF
Hmm, the upcoming 7950X3D might just be the perfect partner in the few cpu bottlenecked games shown.
That's a long intro, maybe 1st time seeing on this channel
Ultra wide benchmark is awesome. Why is only 70/80 procent used of the GPu in Halo? First i thought because of the cpu. But that looks ok.
It's the CPU, since it';s a 16 core CPU, it won't show accurate % load
Impressive
add this combo with oled and it will be a gaming bless
If want to do 2k gaming without ray tracing then it is overkill but if you to do 2k with ray tracing then it is not overkill for 2k and 4k
Thanks you 🙏
Grazie
With how hard next gen games look to run. I think the 4090 is just right.
So smooth gameplay just wow ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is great, but I wish we would have been able to see the same number of games in the 4K benchmark.
youtube is full of them
you walk into a candy shop and get sad they dont sell toilet paper
Hilarious how all the plebs try to say that 4090 takes a nuclear reactor when its usually using less power then a 3090 with 2x performance...
They've read a narrative on the product on another site and are mindlessly repeating it, ignoring that the 40 series is freakishly efficient.
or the fact that when most of those people using DLSS which reduce rendering and that automatically means less draw prower.
@@ConstantieE Yup, it's also what der Bauer mentioned. DLSS Quality has gotten to the point where you have to pixel peep in most games to tell the difference from native but it nets you lower power use and higher FPS.
People DESPERATELY want these expensive products to be awful in someway to justify the story they have in their heads about them.
not at all, tried running cyberpunk and you see crawling down at everythind maxed unless i enable dlss 3
Perfect new LG ultragear 1440p 240 hz OLED
yes, very overkill. this card can do 7680x2160 (with dlls in quality).
Seems like its perfect for 3440x1440
Ultrawide is the best for 3rd person open world games
hmmm how come both the CPU and GPU are underutilized in Flight Simulator? Where's the bottleneck?
Never though some gonna use metal hellsinger for their benchmark
YEEESSS BRO been waiting for a vid like this couldnt trust them other ones😒😒😒
finally a 4k gaming
thanks... more of this please ....
if you use rt, this is far from overkill but if you don't use rt 4080 or 7900xt is prob the better choice
I feel like once you're able to push games to 120+fps mark consistently, you truly do not need to upgrade parts for years.
Not overkill if you can afford it now and plan on keeping it for years. Pretty optimal.
Ultrawide is the way
until you reach 45-55" monitor sizes, then its back to 16:9
Depends on the game - f.e. CP 2077 & Control without frame generation still not there for solid 4k 120hz
Overall it is a 4k card, so yes - an overkill for 1440p.
it's ultrawide too though, closer to 4k in the amount of pixels.
@@Mustang1984 Kind of, but not really:
It's 8.2 million vs 4.9 million pixels == 1.67x difference between them.
It's less than comparing UHD vs HD (2x), but still not insignificant.
True, Its still not a true 4k card @native res. Probably next gen will be an actual 4k gpu.
@@Timur4593 agreed, native not there yet. That's why I mentioned some examples in my first comment.
Is literally perfect for this resolution, you'll be able to max this for many years to come above 144hz hopefully
Not really when some of these games already dropping to 100 or less
@@Superb_Legend all the more reason to avoid 4k
Very impressive, now can someone please purchase one for me 😊
Can't put myself to think that RTX 4090 can't even reach solid 200fps on any game that ist Doom Eternal.
Having a 32:9 monitor, will last another decade before Nvidia or AMD release a GPU that can reach 240fps on all games
Now, it's time to aim for 5120*2160
Well metal hellsinger is a copy of doom 😂
Note that this guy has AM5 motherboard with DDR5.
CPU just chilling
